A Breath of Fresh Air

I won't bother writing a long synopsis. Tbh I just wanted to try writing a new one, maybe I'll have the motivation to write this one instead of my other novels. I don't even know why I'm explaining this in here. But if your curious about the novel then Ill write a 1 sentence long synopsis. A new VR game took the world by storm and so, our MC decided to play it.

Power Strike

While walking towards the store where Calvin bought his armor, he suddenly remembered something.

"Ahhh fuck. I forgot that I had potions. Ohh my god I'm so fucking stupid." Calvin stopped walking and cursed himself while cringing hard.

"If I had used the potions maybe I could have won that fight. Agghh thinking about it is so frustrating. Why all of times I forgot this important thing."

He put all the blame on his forgetfulness. Due to many exciting experiences like becoming a blacksmith and then going straight to fighting, he completely forgot that he had potions on him.

Calvin stood there for a minute embarrassed for himself before continuing on as if nothing happened while thinking to himself, 'I definitely wouldn't tell this those guys. If they got to know about this, they'll tease me as long as they want.'

Thinking about his friends laughing madly to his embarrassing mistake made him blush in shame.

Shaking his head, he placed his focus somewhere else.

'Hmm, it looks like that was only luck. I can sense my mana more clearly now than before and can even control it somewhat. But not to the point of doing it like what I did back then.' Calvin thought as he looked at his arm and willing his mana to move towards it.

This time, it was a lot slower than when he did earlier. Moreover, he can only control small amount of his mana during a time.

'Whatever. I'll just practice more.'

With that thought in his head, Calvin walked absentmindedly while practicing controlling his mana.

He soon reached the shop and after searching around inside it, he quickly found a simple one hand axe.

[Steel axe, Middle 1st grade]

Level: 2

Requirements: 5 strength

Attack: 6

Durability: 10/10

The price for this axe is 40 copper, a lot higher than his armor. Still he bought it since he needed another weapon.

He didn't bought another sickle since it the first place he just wanted to try a unique weapon. And now that he got a choice to pick another weapon, he might as well choose a new one.

As for the mastery? He didn't care one bit. In the end, his main goal in playing is to have fun. And trying out new things is one of his ways to have fun.

People might berate him for it but this is also a good way for him to learn not to care about other's opinions. This time in this game, he'll go in his own style while not minding the opinions of others.

Well... he'll try to at least...

After buying it, he immediately ran to the forest again. He intends to finish the quest of killing wolves before doing anything else.

It took him a few minutes of running to reach the entrance of the forest. He leaned against a a tree for a moment to catch his breath before going in.

Just like last time, he stayed far away from the players while exploring the map. One thing he learned when he looked at his map earlier is that the place he died is way way deep into the forest, which made him speechless.

That was most likely the reason why he encountered a level 4 monster in the first place. Now he's starting to question himself if he's really smart or in reality, he's just stupid to forget and not notice many important things.

Sighing in defeat, he continued exploring the map and fighting everything that he meets.

Time flew by as Calvin continued grinding. He met new kinds of monsters besides wolves. There were boars, foxes, monkeys, and he even met another bear.

It was a good thing that by the time he met the bear, he regained his level back to 3, making the stat points he allocated effective again. He also got lucky when two equipments dropped, a boots and gloves.

[Wolf boots, Middle 1st grade]

Level: 2

1 Def, 1 Agi

Durability: 10/10

[Tusk Gloves, Middle 1st grade]

Level: 3

2 Def, 1 Str

Durability: 10/10

Remembering those moments, he thanked his luck and smiled in happiness that finally equipments dropped from monsters.

Another good thing that happened is that all of his stats got a bonus of 1 point, which made him both surprised and happy.

He also managed to improve his control of mana by practicing. Now, he can do what he did just like his last attack before dying from the bear and he can do it as long as he want.

Because of this, he received an alert from the system which he actually expected already.

[Congratulations, You have created a skill! Due to the skill having the same characteristics to an already existing skill, your skill will be named "Power Strike"!]

As for why he expected, it was obvious. The attack he's doing is obviously not considered a normal one and since it doesn't resemble his Lacerate skill, he knew that the system would say that he made a skill.

[Power Strike - F]

Action - Active

Level 1 (20/100)

Deal 140% damage to a single target.

Cost: 5 mana

Cooldown: 4 seconds

He immediately knew that his guess was right when he saw the skill's description. Power Strike gathers mana in the arm while Lacerate is in the weapon itself. That's why they have different effects.

Also, he started to learn some more things about skills. Firstly, the skill description given by the system to skills he obtained are longer compared to the description given by the system to his made skill. In fact it only says the amount of actual numerical effects of the skills.

He had a guess why this is so. The system gave longer descriptions to the skills because it also serves as a hint to the players to actually learn the skills. While for the made skills, descriptions are useless since the players know how to manually use them on their own.

This is actually useful for him since now, he will pay more attention to the descriptions of skills. In the end, its much easier to learn from existing skills than to create one from scratch.

Another thing he learned from skills is about the cooldown. When he was practicing earlier, he could use it without any time frame. The only disadvantage in doing so is his arm would start to ache.

So he got another guess. Cooldowns in this game are limitations played by the system not to limit the power of it but to preserve the safety of the players. Even though there is a cooldown listed by the system in his Power Strike, in reality he could actually use it as many times as he wanted, with the price of his safety though.

He's still not sure about many things about skills and even he's not confident that hes right about his conjectures since the game operates in a different way than the games he played so he's sure that he doesn't know everything about skills yet.

But he was more than happy enough for now to know these things. It was still early game and eventually there will be a time where he would surely learn more.

Now back to the topic, due to those 4 reasons reasons which are going back to level 3, imcreased stats, new equipments, and new skill, he finally killed the bear and only needed to drink one health potion to do so.

In the first place, he believed that he could kill the bear even without the gloves and the boots though it would surely be a tough battle. It was just that he was so stupid and unlucky that he died during his first encounter with it.

Remembering that embarrassing moment, he couldn't help but kick the bear's corpse as he let out a victorious laugh.

"Take that you fucking bitch!" Calvin laughed.

After having a good laugh, he happily looted the items dropped by the bear.

Changed the kill requirement of the quest from 15 to 20 wolf
