It's a good book, the story unfolds at a good pace. There aren't any useless long scenes of who ate what, etc. The characters are well built, realistic and with their own specific traits. Some of the names are a tad bit too close in pronunciation which makes it a bit difficult to differentiate the characters at first. It would be nice once we get introduced to the characters to use only their first names (unless their names are said by one of the characters or they are called respectfully Mr./Mrs. family name etc.) so that it becomes easier to follow through with what is going on instead of trying to figure out who is who while struggling to understand what is going on in the scene. Hi there, I just started reading A Marriage in Name Only? My Stepbrother Won't Let Me Go and the opening hit like a gut-punch, Mei Wanying dying by her own hand as a hostage, abandoned by the husband she spent years chasing, only to wake up reborn on the very night that sealed her fate and desperately try to undo it all. What makes it so compelling is her clarity afterward, refusing to marry Pei Yan even as her mother sobs and begs, even threatening to hurt herself again rather than repeat a marriage that hollowed her out. Watching her go from starry-eyed devotion to cold, guarded self-preservation in the span of one night gives her such a sharp emotional arc. The scene I'd love to illustrate most is that confrontation in Mei Wanying's courtyard, Pei Yan striding in furious and imperious, the white jade earring held between them like evidence in a trial, while Mei Wanying, hair still damp from her bath, meets his interrogation with newfound icy composure instead of her old lovesick devotion. There's such a striking power shift in that scene, the girl who once threw herself at him now refusing to even meet his eyes, and I think it would make a beautifully tense illustration. I'd also love to capture the quieter, more devastating moment of her rebirth, Mei Wanying jolting awake in the dark to thunder, frantically checking her own throat for a wound that isn't there, then freezing as she realizes she's back in the exact night that started her downfall, Pei Yan's arm heavy across her waist in the dark. It's such a visceral, disorienting scene, memory and reality colliding in that single terrified breath. I do manga style commission art, and stories about a heroine using a second chance to break free from a love that destroyed her, wrapped in political intrigue and royal rivalry, are exactly the kind of stories I love bringing to life through illustration. This story had been amazing.All the characters were realistic. I loved how doted the ml was to the fl. it would have been better if the ml childhood past was written which would have explained his personality development better but even without it's one the best books I have read so far. I felt every bit of the emotions of the story. One should definitely give it a chance.
