Comments of chapter undefined of Interstellar Age

I really started to hate the abuse authors give to their Mc at the beginning of their novels. Who created this trend really? I was going to skip this if I didn't like the author's other novel.

I dont know man. This feels kind of meh. The drama isn't really written dramatically. Im interested in seeing the mcs perspective in the matter of like "does my father even care" etc. This feels as if its written as just a prelude before the actual story. Id much rather actually have this be interesting. Sorry if I missread how this beginning was written but i really dont feel like this part of the story "matters" for anything else than a shallow introduction to the characters in the story.
