So, a fair number of students failed to acquire a symbiont, another portion are dealing with backlash or the adjustment period, and the school sends them into a life and death battle??? Unless the school wants to eliminate students, this is where the training should start. A few weeks of training, experts helping students to adapt to their new physique and partners, and helping them figure out what combat skills are suited to them, then giving them time to practice, is the most appropriate course of action right now. As students recover, they can join the training. Calling a death battle training is ludicrous and not something that would help mankind unless you have an overpopulation and want to get rid of those that can't adapt quickly enough, letting geniuses shine.

What kind of combat ability can you have after 1 day, at least teach them something and give them a month of time. It like taking exam at beginning of course before teaching anything.
