Becoming an Artificer

Ben decided wanted to check out what the artifact was. After his last experience he assumed that the voice in his head could react to his thoughts so he tried to communicate with it in his head and it worked.

"What's an artifact?"

"An artifact is an object that is given power that allows it to give it's owner certain skills, perks, or stat bonuses whilst in use. These artifacts level up with the owner. Not only are they indestructible, but they can't be misplaced. Once you are done using the artifact until you wish to use it again."

"How do I get an artifact?"

"Certain artifacts can be obtained in this world, but they are exceedingly rare. As a gift for their troubles the 1000 people who were teleported can choose one object on them to become an artifact, What do you want to become your artifact?"

Ben started thinking, but quickly realized he really only had one option.

"I'll have my glasses be my artifact."

He realized that now that he was wearing glasses, if he ever lost them or broke them, he would be unable to see well at all, and that would be terrible. He had no clue if this world was as developed or not as Earth and he wasn't willing to take the risk, so he prioritized his survival and made his glasses into his an artifact. Ben opened up his menu again, and this time in the artifact category, it showed Prescription Glasses. The voice in his head explained.

"That is just the base name of your artifact for now, when it levels up changes can be made to the name based it's skills and effects. Currently in addition to being indestructible, your glasses have the skill Data Entry. In order to see the skills and effects of your artifact, you can find those by going into the artifact category, and then think about which benefit you want to find out more about, and you will be able to read an explanation of the effects."

Ben did just that, and checked out what the skill Data Entry had to offer. It said the following.

Skill: Data Entry

When the user looks at an object or person with the intent to investigate, a menu with an explanation regarding the origin and status of the object/person will be given. The amount of information provided will depend based on need and the difference in level between objects.

The voice explained, "The first restriction is given otherwise too much unnecessary information will be given, and the second restriction is given so that the skill can be countered against. By the way if you need my help in the future, you can give me a nickname and ask for me by using that name."

"If that's the case, then I'll just call you Zero." responded Ben.

"Hey Zero, where's the nearest town?"

"The town is 3 faulds In your 6:00 direction, which is roughly 3 miles, the difference is almost negligible so you can think of faulds as a replacement unit for miles."

Ben turned around and decided to head to town as he was starting to get rather chilly. After walking for around 20 minutes, Ben passed out from the weather. If one were to look at him, they would see his glasses disappear into his body as he fell to the ground.
