A Flash of Light

Ben had just awoken from his nap. Recently he had started to take more naps, eat more often and do whatever he wanted whenever he wanted. This was because a four days ago on the news it was confirmed that a planet the twice the size of earth was projected to collide into Earth within the week. Ben had always been a solid student and participated in extracurriculars all year round, Basket ball during the fall and winter, and Soccer during the spring and the summer. In addition to being athletic, he was also a good student with an unweighted GPA of 3.7 and was taking multivariable calculus this year, his senior year in high school. After realizing that everything he did was meaningless, he decided to focus more on what he always wanted to do, and that was to be lazy.

In addition to sleeping in and not working out like normal Ben even stopped wearing his contacts as it was to much effort to put them on every morning. Instead he wore his glasses which were Black and Gold in color which seemed to pronounce the natural highlights he had in his messy brown hair from being in the sun so often.

Both of his parents had already left for work, his Mom worked for the hospital as a nurse, and his father was a salesman for a medium sized office supply company. They had stopped waking him up as they realized that he was really taking these recent events hard. They would still talk to him every night when they got back from work and ate dinner, but besides that they hadn't seen him anymore. Ben had the house to himself again, so he got online and started playing video games alone again. It's not that he didn't have friends, Ben was doing well off in that department, but he didn't want his friends to see him in the state he was in.

Suddenly in the middle of one of his games, this message appeared on a blue screen right in front of him:

Hello Planet Earth,

I am Algorn one of the Guardians of the 10 realms. Unfortunately due to a systematic error we failed to detect the imminent danger your planet was facing. In order to try to compensate humanity, 1000 of you will be teleported at random to a new world called Extopia in 15 seconds. These 1000 will receive a gift that will be explained once they are there as an apology for the death of your friends and family.

I offer my humblest apologies,

Algorn.

After reading the message, Ben was very confused. That confusion didn't last very long as he saw a blinding flash of light, and fell backwards. Instead of landing on the carpeted floor in his room, he felt his hands touch something cold, very cold.
