1 Year of Beginning

“Give me one year of your life and I’ll give you the money you need.” Feng Mian is a normal and down to earth modern woman. She just wanted an ordinary life, an ordinary job and find an ordinary man to marry in the future. (Yes, all should be ordinary). But when family matters took a turn for the worst, she faced a huge dilemma called shortage of money. Suddenly, a contract came due to a series of coincidences. Zhang Liang was fed up with his father's (yes, father not mother) matchmaking schemes for him. He wanted to have a peaceful year because this was his chance to expand his business overseas, yet his father didn’t seem to get the message. When an ordinary fresh graduate employee in his company accidentally saw a scene, he decided to take the chance. “Since she has a normal background with nothing remarkable, nothing should go wrong, right?” Browsing through the contract, Feng Mian gritted her teeth. 'Fine. It was just one year of my life anyway. I wouldn't lose a lot.' But was it true? Or would that one year turn out to be a ride full of ups and down for both of them? ... Story set in modern era in fictional country. This story is purely fiction, any similarities with real life's event is purely coincidence. Sudden Visit

Feng Mian headed to the door and saw Butler Lou standing before her. She could see that he was staring at her with a bit of hesitancy in his eyes.

"What is it, Butler Lou?"

"Madam, I think that it'll be better if you can learn some of the etiquette and manner so that you can… act better around Zhang Liang's friends."

Feng Mian's mind blanked for a moment when she heard what Butler Lou said. Well, it was indeed true that she often acted like a country bumpkin (which was partially true too). She had seen that Zhang Liang seemed to be a bit helpless when he saw her, which meant that it was quite bad.

As herself, there was no problem. After all, she used to be a normal and ordinary person in City F. It was much more common to see people like her compared with people like Zhang Liang.

Feng Mian sighed internally. A little training shouldn't hurt her too.

"What do you think I need to do?"

Butler Lou beamed when he heard Feng Mian's answer. He was hesitant because many people were unwilling to listen to advice. As someone who had risen to status, he was not totally sure what Feng Mian's attitude would be.

"First, I want to fix your posture and walking. Later, we'll work on your subtle expression and also your way to handle things. Noble usually would not bend their back easily and they would walk confidently."

Feng Mian smiled bitterly. It seemed that she had accidentally walked with her back slightly hunched. It was her habit too in the past because she didn't need to care too much about it.

"How should I begin the training?"

"Come with me."

Butler Lou brought Feng Mian to the training room. Seeing the complete set of equipment, Feng Mian felt that she was inside a gym. She wondered if Zhang Liang ever used all of them.

At the edge of the room, there was a stack of books. Seeing the thick book, Feng Mian looked at Butler Lou hesitantly.

"That…?"

"Put this on your head and begin to walk on the line. Make sure that you keep your back straight because the book will fall if you don't."

Feng Mian averted her eyes and saw the long line on the ground. She sighed to herself because she knew that this would be inevitable.

"Please be lenient with me."

Butler Lou merely smiled and handed the books.

Taking the books, Feng Mian placed them on top of her head. It didn't take long for the books to fall down. With every few steps, it was clear that she needed a lot of practice. In the end, Butler Lou had her repeated the same steps over and over for the day.

When Feng Mian was unable to continue, Butler Lou continued with explaining some of the basic habits that the nobles usually have. For example, they learned to show their interest subtly and not blatantly looked around. It would be considered as impolite and lack of manners.

Even though the era had turned modern, there were still a lot of rules that the nobles instinctively followed. Those were the traditions from the previous time, which still lasted until now.

Feng Mian had to learn each of them bit by bit. Thankfully, Butler Lou was patient with her because she needed a long time to drill the movement to her body.

In the end, Butler Lou decided that Feng Mian needed to practice every few days.

Time passed swiftly. Feng Mian alternated her schedule between her training with Butler Lou and painting. She didn't need to be that excellent in the manner, but at least, she wanted to be passable.

Her brush was moving on the painting before her when she heard another knock on the door.

'Is it time for lunch?'

Knock! Knock!

"Yes?"

"Madam, it's already time for lunch," Butler Lou reminded. Internally, he truly wondered how come the house now felt like it had two children who couldn't take care of themselves? When Zhang Liang was busy with work, he would forget about eating and resting. When Feng Mian was busy with painting, she would also forget about eating and resting.

Really, these two were similarly problematic.

"Ah! Sorry, I forgot," Feng Mian exclaimed. She put down her brush and looked at her painting once more. She was still trying to paint her childhood's part. The sandcastle was already finished, so now, she wanted to paint the time when she was in elementary.

However, it was not a person that she drew.

She drew a lawn where there were butterflies, bees, beetles, dragonflies, and so on. They all played in a lawn filled with beautiful flowers. Right now, she hasn't finished it because it might take some time.

Feng Mian walked out of the room and headed to the dining room. As she passed the corridor, she heard the sound of a car stopping. Her head turned to the front door in confusion. Did Zhang Liang finish early again?

"Madam," Butler Lou called from the living room. He walked to the corridor. "Old Master Zhang had arrived."
