Training Time! Overdrive: Mode One?

I felt a boop on my nose which woke me up, Annie was standing next to me, waiting for me to actually get up.

"If you think I'm leaving this bed, you must be mistaken." I sleepily mumbled.

"Well, unless you want to improve that Quirk of yours, I suggest you get up." Annie replied.

I shot up out of my bed, "Alright! What are we doing?"

"We're doing just basic exercises, you still have to get a hang of that Quirk." Annie told me.

"What? What do you mean? I've got the hang of it! Did you not hear what happened at the U.S.J.? I kicked straight through that Nomu's arm!" I exclaimed.

"It's more than just that, Alyx. You nearly got killed! These training exercises we're going to work on will help out with your spatial awareness so things like that won't happen again." Annie explained.

I nodded and we headed to the training room. As we entered, Annie activated her Quirk.

"Okay, here's what we're going to do, I want you to go into your Base Gear and close your eyes." Annie instructed.

"Alright, here goes." I muttered.

I went into my Base Mode and closed my eyes. I'm not entirely sure how this would improve my Quirk but she knows a lot more about this stuff than I do.

"Now, I want you to try and dodge my attacks only feeling the vibrations around you!" Annie instructed.

Without warning, she fired an attack off at me, I focused on feeling the vibrations in the air. It was almost as if my body acted on its own as I dodged all of the attacks effortlessly!

"Woah, have you been training without me or something?" Annie questioned.

"I-I'm just as surprised as you are! I honestly don't know how I did that!" I told her.

I closed my eyes again and focused on the vibrations around me, except this time I got punched in the face by Annie. I went flying back into the padded wall and bounced off of it.

"I guess that must've been a one time thing, huh?" Annie yelled over to me.

I rubbed the back of my head as I got up, "Y-Yeah, I guess so!"

Annie laughed a bit and shook her head.

"Well, whatever that was, it was pretty cool. Now, let's continue!" Annie smiled.

[2.5 Hours Later...]

My arms and legs were absolutely trashed, they hurt like hell! I was laying on the floor of the training room and Annie poured water on my face.

"Come on, we've got one more thing to do." She laughed.

Annie helped me up and stood a few feet in front of me, "You said that you entered Gear One briefly, right?"

"Yeah, I think so. It definitely didn't feel like my Base Mode at all." I replied.

"Alright, I want you to try and get back into it. I know it might be hard, but it's worth a shot." Annie told me.

I nodded and stood in a charge up position, "Like this, right?"

She gave me a thumbs up and watched. I clenched my fists and took a deep breath in.

"Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa..." I started to charged up.

Sparks surrounded my body and the training room began to shake. Then, my Overdrive exploded into an aura around me!

"RAAAAHAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!" I roared.

I held it for as long as I could before I collapsed to the ground, that was way too much for me to take! My lungs and my chest felt like they were on fire! Annie put her hands on my back and healed me up a bit.

"That's enough training for today. You did amazing! Albeit you stumbled a bit here and there, nonetheless, nice job today!" Annie complimented me.

I smiled and Annie helped me up to my feet. My Mother appeared in the doorway.

"Lunch is ready!" She yelled to us.

We made our way to the kitchen and I sat at the table with Annie and Liz.

"Aly! Annie! What was that shaking? You made Beans scared!" Liz asked.

"Oh, it's was just training, sweetheart. That's all." Annie replied.

She puffed up her cheeks and crossed her arms, "I wanna play with you guys too!"

"Easy there, Liz, don't get too excited. Training's a lot of work! Aly'll say the same thing, right?" Annie looked at me.

I nodded at her, "Uh huh! If I'm gonna be honest, it a real pain in the a-"

My Mother glared at me from the kitchen, I tensed up and reworded what I was going to say.

"It's really difficult! Yeah, that's what I was gonna say!" I nervously laughed.

After lunch, I headed back up to my room. I heard my phone buzzing like crazy as I walked in! I quickly walked over and picked it up.

"Hello?" I answered.

"Yo, it's Jiro. You wanna hang? I've got nothing to do today." Jiro asked.

"Oh, sure! Where'd you wanna hang?" I replied.

"My place, if that's fine. I can text you my address." Jiro responded.

"Alright, sounds like a plan! I'll be over in a bit!" I exclaimed.

We hung up and she texted me her address. I showered and got ready for the day.

"Oh? Are you going out again?" My Mother wondered.

"Yeah, Jiro asked me if I wanted to hang out. I'll be home around dinner time!" I informed her.

My Mother nodded and I waved goodbye to her. Jiro's house wasn't too far from mine, depending on how bad traffic was, I could probably get there in at least 15 minutes. I activated my Base Mode and ran down the street. I zoomed through alleyways and rooftops. I managed to get there in 10 minutes! As I got to Jiro's house, I went out of Base Mode and dusted myself off. I walked to her front door and rang the doorbell. I waited for a bit before Jiro came to the door.

"That was quick, you sure you don't live next door?" Jiro laughed.

I laughed with her, "Nah, I'm just a pro at taking shortcuts!"

She let me inside, and holy hell, there was so many things in her house! She had a whole drum set, a few guitars, and a lot more! We walked up to her room.

"You promise you won't judge me, right?" She asked.

I nodded and she slowly opened up her door. Something in my head told me, "This must be heaven", since her room was filled with band stuff!

"Oh my... This looks awesome! You can play an instrument?" I grinned.

"You...Y-You think it's cool?" Jiro questioned.

"Yeah! I didn't think that you were this into music! I think it's cool!" I exclaimed with excitement.

She put her hands behind her head and blushed, "T-Thanks! So... Do you wanna listen to some Deep Dope?"

"Would I?!" I beamed.

We sat there and listened to their most recent album, I'd have to say, they had some really great vocals!

"Hey, I've got a question, how long have you been interested in music?" I asked.

"Well, ever since I was a kid. It's nothing really too impressive, I mean, they're just instruments. It's not like I can use them with my Quirk or anything." Jiro sighed.

I puffed my cheeks out and thought about something, Jiro turned and looked at me.

"What are you doing?" She asked.

"Thinking." I responded.

"About...?" She questioned.

I sat up from her bed, "Do you think you could show me how to play guitar?"

"Y-You want me to teach you? I mean sure, but I'm not the best at it." Jiro agreed.

"Alright!" I shouted with glee.

Jiro pulled two guitars out from her closet and she handed one to me. She showed me how to properly hold one and a simple little song that she started out playing. It took me a bit, but I got the hang of it.

"Hey, you're not doing that bad. It'll be a while before you'll be able to play more chords at once, though." Jiro complimented.

Her bedroom door opened, "Hey, that's some sweet sounding chords Ji-"

Her Father stood in her doorway and looked at me.

"Oh, hey Mr. Jiro!" I greeted.

"Hm? I didn't think you had a boyfriend, Jiro!" Her Father teased.

Jiro's face went red, "H-He's not my boyfriend, Dad!"

In all honesty, I was kind of caught in the middle. I was trying not to laugh because I knew he was joking, but at the same time I was kind of feeling embarrassed like Jiro!

"I'm just kidding! What's your name, son?" He asked.

"Alyx Leonidus, sir!" I responded.

"Oh, I know you, you're Darren's son. Well, it's nice to meet you! Keep rockin' kid!" He smiled.

Jiro's Dad left the room and she sighed, "Sorry about that, I normally don't have anyone over, especially guys."

"Oh, it's alright. Trust me, my Dad's the same way. So is my sister, aaaaand my Mom. Even my little sister!" I laughed.

"Wow, I'd hate to even mention a girl's name if I were you!" Jiro chuckled.

"Hey, you wanna walk around town? I mean, it's better than sitting here doing nothing." Jiro asked.

I agreed and we left the house. There was a question still lingering in my mind, though.

"Hey, Jiro-san, have you ever met anyone by the name "Himiko Toga?"' I questioned.

"I can't say I have. Is she a missing lover of yours or something?" Jiro replied.

I shook my head, "Oh God, no. No joke, she legit tried to drink my blood. She even broke into my house!"

"Damn, really? This Toga girl sounds psychotic." Jiro noted.

I nodded and we continued our walk.

"So, I've got a question for you as well. Or well, someone wants to know." Jiro continued.

"Sure, shoot." I told her.

"You're not seeing anyone, right? I'm asking for a friend so don't get any dumb ideas." Jiro told me.

I sat there and thought, "Hmm... No, I don't think so. Nobody's said anything about that to me, so I'm gonna assume no?"

"Alright, good to know. Speaking of which..." Jiro said as she pulled out her phone to answer it.

"Hey! Yeah, I am... Uh huh... Yeeep... That's what he just told me... Really? You do? That wasn't obvious or anything...! I'm just kidding! I know... Alright, I'll talk to you soon!" Jiro spoke.

She hung up the phone and looked up at me, "Well, they know now."

"Who?" I asked.

"Do you really think I'm gonna tell you?" She replied.

"Oh, come on! Please?" I whined.

She shook her head and smiled, "I'll give you two guesses."

I sat there in deep thought, who could it've been? I gave her my first guess.

"Hagakure-san?" I guessed.

"Nope, not her. Although you two would be an interesting couple." She replied.

"Hmmm... Well maybe... No... Wait, what about Mina-san?" I guessed again.

Jiro nodded at me, "Yep, that's who it is."

"What? Really?! I got it right?!" I shouted with excitement.

"No! I was being sarcastic!" Jiro laughed.

"Aw, what? I thought I got it right." I groaned.

She shook her head and kept laughing, "I guess I can tell why she likes you so much! You're so naive!"

"I am not! I've got experience with things and stuff! Albeit I can't remember, I'm pretty sure I've dealt with this before." I responded.

"I know, I'm just messin' with you. In all honesty, I think you two would be perfect together." Jiro giggled.

We got something to eat in this noodle restaurant, thankfully I could read Hiragana, at least that stuck with me.

"Do you need me to help you with that?" Jiro pointed at my menu.

"Oh, no, I can read it. Thank you though!" I told her.

We ordered out food and waited, I honestly never thought I'd smell a place so delicious in my entire life! I couldn't wait to eat! Jiro kept staring at me, her eyes narrowed every now and then. She leaned a bit forward and squinted her eyes.

"That scar on your eye, it doesn't look like something you'd get from a fall." Jiro observed.

She used one of her earphone jacks to outline the scar on my left eye. I imagined the outline in my head, it almost looked like a flower was marked on my face.

"It's almost looks like someone etched the stem of a rose on your eye." Jiro noted.

"I never really thought about it like that. I always thought it looked weird, though." I replied.

Our food arrived shortly after, it was amazing! I never thought noodles could taste so good without anything extra added with it!

[15 Minutes Later...]

We left the noodle shop and we walked back to her house. I tried to remember how I got the scar above my eye, but I just couldn't! Jiro put her arm out to stop me.

"You hear that?" She asked.

I stood quietly and listened. There was a strange humming sound coming from the building next to us. We got closer to the building and Jiro put an earphone jack into the wall.

"What are you hearing?" I whispered.

"It sounds like... A bunch of machines?"Jiro responded.

She brushed it off and we walked away from the building.

"I wonder what's going on in there?" I wondered.

"Who knows." Jiro shrugged her shoulders.

We eventually made our way back to Jiro's. I waved goodbye to her as she walked into her house. I activated my Quirk and ran back home.
