Memories of Past

After succumbing to darkness, the memories of my past suddenly resurfaced in my mind as if it is in playback mode.

The memory of myself as an infant up to the age of 10. Those were the happiest moments of my life where I am just playing around with friends in kindergarten and elementary with so little problems to face, and in those years, my parents still loved me. Seeing the image of my happy family before brought tears to my eyes until it happened, the turning point of my life.

A week before my tenth birthday,I collapsed at school. I later found out that I have cancer in the lungs. My parents were sad and immediately went to find a possible cure for my ailment but I know for sure that there are still no cure for cancer out there.

A year of hard work and constant stress, my parents suddenly disappeared in my life. After a month of not visiting me even once which is unusual since they always come here every weekends or in their day off. I only heard from the nurses murmuring that my parents decided to abandon me.

I was in denial, I can't believe that my parents who showered me their love would one day leave me behind especially when I need them the most. From that moment on, my condition began to worsen. The fact that I held on for six years was truly a miracle.

Though I was thankful for the private organization that paid for my bills and ensures that I still live, deep inside I already wanted everything to be over.

One day when I was being strolled in the garden at the back of the hospital, the nurse left for a few minutes for an emergency errand, there I saw the back of my parents. Anticipation came over me. Are they here to see me? I asked my self. As I was about to call out to dad, I was beaten to it by a young boy. I saw my dad happily catching the boy into his arms. Then I looked into mom, I saw her carrying a baby in dress.

I watched them turn their backs on me still hearing their laughter in the background. I could do nothing but watch as tears unknowingly escaped from my eyes.

I came back to my room and cried silently until I fell asleep for an eternity.

The memories suddenly got foggy until it completely disappeared in my consciousness. The only thing that I remember was a voice saying something to me.

Follow your heart and you may reach your path.
