New captian of Squad 12

(Toji POV)

"Do you have to go Kirio? I love you and I do not want you to leave~"

"Oh stop it, Toji we both know it's my food that you love.", Kirio said with a smile. 

"Well, one doesn't have to contradict the other. I mean come on, what do those boring people have that I don't?", I asked her.

"I was invited to become a member of the Zero Division and join the Royal Guard. That is an honor, Toji. You should take this more seriously."

"Eh, a bunch of has-beens who think they're better than we are just because they look down on us ... literally."

"Hohoho, Toji you and your mouth. Just don't let them hear you speak like that. They can be quite intimidating.", Kirio laughed. 

"Truly? Well, then we might have some fun after all. It's been a while since I last had a good fight.", I said in thought. 

*Bonk*

Kirio Hikifune bonks me on the head like a child. I hate it when she does that. But she makes such good food, so I allow it. 

"Aww, what was that for?"

"Don't even think about fighting the Zero Division. They are out of your league. Also, when was the last time you fought? You should start training again.", Kirio told me. 

"Training?? I will let you know that I train frequently and very intensely. I just haven't spoken with someone in a while. Although that is also not quite accurate."

If she knew what sort of training I still did, she would lose her mind. I had to enter my inner world to practise the things I do. I would destroy the Dangai otherwise and Hueco Mundo was also not a good idea. I might be branded a traitor ... pfft hahaha that's hilarious. 

"But seriously Kirio, do you have to go? How about I marry you and then we can go up there together? Just tell them that we're a package deal."

"What is it with you today? It's even worse than normal. I understand that you're going to miss my food but I'm sure you'll manage. And you shouldn't make such jokes. Some ladies would love to hear you say those words from you and you are just too dense to notice.", Kirio reprimanded me. 

"What are you talking about?"

"See, I told you. Too dense for your own good. I could name you at least four ladies that are interested in you and you are just not paying them an ounce of attention. That's disappointing Toji.", Kirio said.

"Heeee, four? Also, how did our discussion come to this? I was clearly talking about you staying in the Gotei 13 and not going to the clouds."

"Hohoho, you never change Toji. I'm sure that you are stronger than you let on and there are only two reasons for you acting the way you do. Either you are so powerful that no one can challenge you anymore ... which I find less likely, OR you lost one fight and never truly got over it..."

"...What? Again, this was not supposed to be about me, but about you dipping and going to higher regions. Why are we talking about my eccentric character that I have been building for about 800 years?", I ask the lady. The audacity of her to suggest that there was a fight I once lost.

"You are trying to divert the attention away from you."

"I am actually trying to come back to what we were originally talking about. So you're really sure there is nothing that I can tempt you with to stay?", I try once again. 

"Hoho, no Toji. I made up my mind. You are a good friend but I believe it is time for me to move on and join the Royal Guard."

"Haaa, I'll miss you. I truly loved your food. You should at least leave me with some receipts. I'll try to find someone that can cook it for me."

"Or maybe you try to cook for yourself and grow up."

"What? Grow up? But why? This is just the kid inside me that makes me do these things. I have no power over it."

"Enough now Toji. I need to finish my preparations. And don't you need to be somewhere?", Kirio asks me.

"Do I? I don't remember something like that.", I try to think about something that would be that I could have forgotten. I don't think so. 

"Look at your face. I can almost hear the gears turning inside there. Today is a Captain's meeting discussing my replacement for Captain of the 12th Division. And you should be there!"

"I should? I don't see the benefits of something like this. How about you-"

"No! Now go otherwise Yamamoto will bust your butt again. And we all know how you like that.", Kirio said with a snicker. 

"I don't like it! He always only punches me. I think his age is getting to him. Maybe I should heal him with 'Jūtai no Utagaki', what do you think?"

"He's not sick, only angry with you. Now get going!"

After that, she kicked me out of her dorm room. Can you believe that? No respect for your seniors anymore. Reluctantly I make my way towards the first division assembly hall. I think this is getting repetitive.

(3rd Person POV)

Close to the 1st Division Assembly Hall, the Captains and some of their Lieutenants are making their way to the hall for the meeting.

"I don't see Hikifune. She's not coming today?", says Jushiro.

"It seems she's already getting started with that side. Or Toji is bothering her? That is probably more likely.", Shunsui answers him.

"What's the hurry? It's not urgent. She could've taken her time.", asks Jushiro

"I'll say. Although Toji always bothers her and asks her to cook for him, I can understand the problem.", Shunsui says.

"But man ... there's been such a turnover of captains lately. Rose would have also become Captain if a seat was free, I'm sure. Although it is a question of whether he's not already the Captain of Squad 3. And next, it's Squad 12. Are things going to be alright.", Shinji Hirako asks.

"Well, change is inevitable in everything. And it's just our turn. When you think about it, the only ones who've been captains for over a hundred years are myself, Ukitake, Fushiguro and Yama-ji. Right?", Shunsui remarks.

"No there's also Captain Unohana.", Jushiro corrects him.

"Oh! That's right! I'll get scolded for forgetting my great-senior! Whoa, now I'm scared.", Shunsui says.

"What are you scared of?", Unohana asks as she comes from a different corridor and joins the group.

"No ... nothing. Just about talking about how it's such a nice day, it's scary. Right?", Shunsui stutters.

"Y-yes."

"ahaha" "ahahaha"

The two laugh nervously. Lisa Yadomaru, the Lieutenant of the 8th Division just looks at the two and says. 

"Our captain is such an idiot. Really."

"Squad 12 had a promotion. Unlike Squad 10, they didn't have a death in the line of duty. It's a peaceful and a good thing.", Unohana tells them happily. 

"Yes" "Yes", they both answer.

"Promotion?", one of the Lieutenants asks. 

It is Sosuke Aizen. He steps forward and asks them what they mean.

"Hey! Sosuke.", Hirako says.

"Pardon me. I couldn't help but listen in.", Aizen says.

"That's okay, Sosuke. What is it?", Shunsui asks him.

"We Lieutenant haven't been told anything. Was Captain Hikifune of Squad 12 promoted? She didn't retire?"

"Yes."

"Promoted from Captain... Does that mean to Central 46? To be promoted from Captain to Central 46 ... I've heard of it happening.", Aizen says.

"Not Central 46. She went to ... the Royal Special Task Force. Squad Zero.", Shunsui tells him.

This shocks Sosuke and he has his eyes opened wide. 

"The Royal Special Task Force."

"What's this? Are you all blocking the corridor?", an elderly voice says behind them.

Ginrei Kuchiki stands ther with Yoruichi Shihoin behind him. The Lieutenants get out of the way and appoligse.

"Congratulations.", Unohana tells Yoruichi Shihoin.

"If you have a congratulatory message, say it to him in person, Captain Unohana.", Captain Shihoin answers her.

"What?", Shinji is confused, "The newcomer is that guy from Squad 2?"

Needless to say, Toji was late to that meeting. It was custom at this point. But surprisingly he sometimes got there on time. But that was usually when he didn't have anything else to do.

Kisuke Urahara, someone who grew up in the Shihoin household, and her childhood friend, was to be tested for the position of Captain of the 12th Division.

He passed with flying colours. Now, about a week after this first meeting ... another one was to be held, to welcome Urahara Kisuke into the rank of Captain of the Gotei 13.

Kensei Muguruma enters the Assembly Hall and addresses the Captains and Lieutenant who are already present. 

"I think the newbie is here. The old man says to line up and wait."

Captain Unohana's Lieutenant, as well as Kyorakus's Lieutenant, the 12th Divison Lieutenant, are here as well. There is also Sosuke Aizen, Lieutenant of Squad 5 and Rōjūrō Ōtoribashi, the Lieutenant of Squad 3 present. 

That is funny because the only people missing are now the newbie, the Head captain and of course ... Toji Fusiguro. 

The door of the Assembly hall opens and Kisuke stands there shocked. 

"Huh?! Umm ... don't tell me. I'm the last one?", he asks while scratching his head in embarrassment. 

"No. As per usual there is still Captain Fushiguro missing."

"Jeez ... Looks like we got a pretty loose one this time.", Hirako remarks. 

"Ehm, May I enter?", Kisuke asks.

"Don't act like a wimp! You're now a Captain! Stand tall and enter, Kisuke!", Captain Shihoin tells him.

"R-right."

"Yes, be quick and enter!", Yamamoto tells him and pushes him with his walking stick.

"Now ... where on earth is Captain Fushiguro?!"

"Ah you know Toji, Yama-ji. He'll be here ... at one point.", Shunsui says.

"This is now the second time, in ONE week. That is not how a Captain should act. I don't think that Captain Fushiguro is fit to lead a squad. Lieutenant Ōtoribashi is far better suited and pretty much already acts like the Captain of Squad 3 anyway.", Captain Shihoin says. 

"I agree with Captain Shihoin.", a voice says from the corridor. 

Toji makes his entrance and smiles. He has heard it all and is amused at the Captains. It was no wonder that someone like four eyes over there could hide as well as he did. 

Just a bit of acting and then that cool illusion Shikai and voila, you are invisible. Maybe it was time for Toji to show some teeth? No, he would get to fight soon enough and it was not like he never got to fight. Only last month he had fought with the legendary Miyamoto Musashi from the world of Baki.

It was an amazing fight and he had made a massive leap in his Zanjutsu. But more on that later. 

"Now then ... we shall proceed with the installation ceremony.", Yamamoto says after Toji has finally found his place.

"I'm sure the rest of you Captains have heard. Seven days ago, Squad 12 Captain, Kirio Hikifune, was ordered to relinquish her position due to a promotion elsewhere. 

As a result, a search had begun for a new squad captain, and notice was sent to other captains. The following day, upon Squad 2 Captain Yoruichi Shihoin's recommendation, the third seat from her squad was summoned. 

And yesterday ... I, Genryusai Yamamoto, along with the three captains who were present, conducted an exam to evaluate his qualifications to become a captain. 

We found no complaint in his abilities and character. Therefore, the former third seat of squad 2, Kisuke Urahara is promoted to captain of squad 12."
