It's past a few hours after the sun set and it was closing to midnight, and the stars have spread out in the sky along with the moon.
Under the moon is the bright shining Italy.
And Rona, who was viewing this beautiful scene sighs at such a beauty she has not seen.
The calm skies and the busy cities, she wished to see what there is to see in the city, and experience new things.
Before the sun set some time ago, Selena had met up with the Colonel and they talked over the position she and her people could take when they attack.
After that she will be introduced and join the meetings starting tomorrow, another thing was that General Eisenhower knew how important this operation was and so he sent more men to join with the attack.
He was also the one who allowed the Amazons to join, pulling a few strings here and there. After Eisenhower it was Colonel who was willing to let the Amazons fight, and even the two famous war heroes Captain America and Deathstroke vouched for them.
There were no arguments there.
When Selena and Ezra came back and informed the sisters about their success and will be joining in the war, everyone was happy, this was a chance to get their revenge and will fight along men who had similar firearms as the invaders.
And the traitors…
Rona was also happy of their success and was willing to even fight and get justice for her fallen sisters.
But in truth she didn't want any of that, her whole life has always been about fighting, glory and competition, but she never really had these kinds of interest in her heart.
What she wanted to do was unknown to her, but she still felt like she could find out when she took a step out of that island and lived in the men's world.
Even now when she was looking out into the bustling city it was tempting her to just jump off that ship roof and run to the middle of the street and experience new things.
She sat on top of the roof of the ship and rested her elbows on her knees with an apple on her right hand she was slowly munching on. Her spear not too far away.
She exhaled a deep sigh, a bit frustrated. They were finally able to get out of the islands and in the end the only thing they were out to do was fight, always battling.
Another sign came as she effortlessly threw the apple away that was still not fully eaten, fell back and laced on her back flatly as she watched the stars.
"Oh Goddess Hera, please give me a sign...tell me if I should follow my heart or…" She turned silent, not sure what to say.
She had duty and responsibility to protect her princess, not only was she Selena's close friend but she was also a Queen's Guard along with Ezra and Tora.
They each take their duties seriously, but after years in this role she could only feel restless, the world had changed and she wants to experience that change, adelisa is already behind even though it is a sacred secret-society.
But now she couldn't help but feel the invaders attack was an opportunity, will she die? Or will she finally be free and adventure to the new world and try new things?
But before she could think anymore, a new voice made its way to her ear.
"Well what does your heart tell you?" A voice that wasn't a woman spoke.
Rona immediately grunted as she jerked up and grabbed her spear before pointing it at the man who was behind her eating an apple, apparently the same apple she didn't finish and threw away.
"You're...McBide." She said with the spear still pointing at Alfie.
"McBride…" Alfie said, correcting her in a hopeless manner.
"Now tell me, what does your beautiful heart say?" Alfie said as he used his left hand to push the spear to the side as if it's in the way.
"What are you doing here?" Rona asked, frowning.
The man was able to appear and not alarm anyone who was on watch, it was alarming and she felt how dangerous the man was at that moment.
"I asked first." Alfie said.
Rona raised an eyebrow wondering if it was a thing when someone questioned one first they had the right for an answer first.
But before they can continue one of the ladies on watch called out.
"Rona! Is everything alright?"
Rona didn't say anything but looked at Alfie who just nodded and thought for a while before replying.
"I'm quite alright, continue on your watch."
...
There was a moment of quiet as Rona sat back down legs crossed and sitting across Alfie.
"Hello again Rona, you seem to have troubles in your mind, sometimes it's best to talk to a friend about it." Alfie said.
"How did you appear without alarming-"
"No no, I still have my question first." Alfie said, interrupting her.
"What troubles thy heart darling?"Alfie asked.
Rona raised one of her brows in slight irritation.
"I don't see how it's any of your business." Rona said.
"Perhaps not, you asked dear Hera for a sign...maybe I'm the sign." Alfie said confidently.
"What makes you think Hera would ever let you serve her in any way?" Rona asked in mock.
"I don't think that, but then again no one ever really knows if we are following the paths these gods would set out...but then again why would the gods casually participate in the billions of people that always call out their names for petty reasons.
Everyone always say they achieve things because of their gods or if they don't succeed in something they will simply say that their gods have different plans for them.
It's honestly ridiculous, not that my opinion matters much to others." Alfie said as he watched the incredulous expressions of Rona.
"Do you not have faith in your god? Or do you not follow a god." Rona asked.
"It's not that I don't, I just don't assume things like most do."
"Then what is it you think of gods?" Rona asked.
"Nothing, but just like them I have my own life to worry about, I make my own paths more or less.
I'm a Christian and I only have one god I have faith in, but I don't assume things just because of what others say or do, in the end only god can judge me.
Now why don't we line back to my first question, what bothers you?" Alfie asked again.
Rona didn't say anything for a moment as she turned her body towards the city lights and watched it in wonder.
"I want to venture out into the new world and see the things me and my people have not seen." Rona said as she stood up and like it was on cue the wind started whistling, blowing her hair and dress dramatically.
Alfie sat in the back and ate the apple wondering if Rona was having a typical princess moment.
"There is literally a whole world full of mysteries and things waiting to be discovered, and I want to just...just...I want to take that step, even if I don't know what exactly I wanna do or where I'm gonna go I feel it in my heart that if I just take that one step...then I can find myself…" Rona said her last sentence quietly but Alfie can still hear her.
"I see, then why don't you take that step then?" Alfie asked.
"No, I can't, I have a responsibility to my people." Rona said as she stepped back and looked into the ocean.
"Hmm I understand, Rona how old are you?"
"Hmm? Why, I'm four-hundred and ninety...seven." Rona said unsure.
"Wow really?!" Alfie asked, shocked.
"Yeah, most of us are descendents of gods, although not pure bloods but we are still able to have power and age slower than the average man." Rona said which completely stunned Alfie.
"But Princess Selena is different, the Queen has announced when we were younger that she was a direct child of one of the gods, such honor, but it was true as princess has shown us all she is capable of and no one will question her rule." Rona said proudly.
"Ye- yeah, anyways you said you Four-hundred-and-ninety-seven?" Alfie asked to which Rona nodded.
He was glad she was Amazonian, because if it was a modern woman and he was asking what her age is? Whooh.
"Okay so throughout your whole life, have you ever disobeyed or questioned your higher ups?"
"No of course not, there would be severe consequences for such actions." Rona said.
"I see, that is unfortunate, but breaking the rules once wouldn't hurt right?" Alfie asked, smiling sheepishly.
"What do you mean?" Rona asked as she was suddenly roped in.
"I mean you and Selena are close friends and you are also a valuable member of her warriors, and with your years of contributions I'm sure she can let it slide once if you were to...leave your post and check the surroundings." Alfie said tempting her.
"What?!...no, I- no!" Rona said as she stuttered with uncertainty, but Alfie saw it, she was thinking about it.
"Even if you really do plan on leaving I could take you around the city and show you things and then bring you back before dawn so no one will notice…" Alfie dumped gas on the fire tempting her more.
Rona stepped back as she looked at the bright bustling city then back to Alfie, then again at the city and spoke softly.
"No, I'm sorry but I can't…."
Seeing how she was slowly considering it, Alfie decided to strike while it's hot.
"Rona, have you ever heard the story of the girl who can fly?"
Rona turned to him and shook her head, of course she hadn't heard it because she wasn't familiar with the common stories of the outside, even if she was she still wouldn't know it since there was no story of it, Alfie just made it up to make her take that step.
"It's about a young girl who lived on an island…" Alfie started his story, and Rona was already hooked, she also lived on an island which was a coincidence.
"Now this girl and her people live on an island that is small, but it still has resources to last them for many generations.
At the edge of the island there was a cliff that was so high she could see the ocean around the island in full view.
Everyday the young girl would go there to look at the beautiful view, from the millions of stars to the endless ocean.
Her people said that there are no other land other than the very island they live on, and that she can't venture away from the island.
But in her heart she had a different thought, her heart was saying to jump off that cliff and venture out instead, but due to the words of everyone else and her duty to her people she has not done what her heart tells her to do.
That was until one day, their resources have been stretched thin. Fishes suddenly disappear from their seas, fruits and plants start to die out.
And the leaders and elders started fighting and arguing about what to do, everyone was in panic, but not the young girl.
As everyone thought about what they should do, the young girl made her way to the high cliff with heavy steps, that day her heart spoke to her again.
Do you know what it said?" Alfie asked as he turned his head to Rona who was fully hooked and paid her fullest attention to Alfie's story.
"What?!" She asked impatiently.
"Her heart said "Take the leap, Take the step" and she can clearly heart her heart as she stood on the edge of that cliff looking down into the ocean.
There was no sound but the smooth crashing of the water, whistling wind, and her talking heart.
And so at that moment she…" Alfie paused again looking at Rona who was desperately waiting for the story to continue.
"What did she do?!" Rona asked as she stood up looking at Alfie in a hurry.
Alfie didn't speak but casually finished the apple and threw it aside into the ocean.
"You wanna know what happened?" Alfie asked teasingly.
"Yes!!"
Rona yelled whisperingly so that only they can hear it.
"Very well.
At that moment she did it…
She took the step, and she leaped off that cliff when she closed her eyes and let her fate be.
Whether she would fall to her death, or she will be lifted by the wind.
When she finally opened her eyes she was over the clouds flying, the sun shining on the clouds like they are the land of the gods.
The wind gave her the feeling she has been yearning for, the sun giving her the warmth she seeked and the birds above numbering hundreds flew in one direction as if telling her where to go.
And with that she experienced the world in full." Alfie said as he saw Rona finally sitting down and exhaling a breath.
"B- but what about her people?" She asked.
"They were fine, the birds flew to new land, one where there was no one residing in full of fresh new fruits and animals she had never seen before.
He spent some time in the new land before heading back to her home island, and she then told her people about the land.
They didn't believe her and called her crazy and such, but she saw it coming so she took out a basket of fruits and showed it to her people.
After that it was safe to say they believed her, and with her help they located new lands constantly throughout their lives." Alfie said finally finishing the story.
"So? How did you like the story?"
"I loved it, she followed her heart." Rona said softly as she put her hand over her own heart.
'So innocent' Alfie thought.
"Do you know what would have happened if she were to never follow her heart?" Alfie said, immediately catching her attention again.
"What?..."
"Well for one, her people would have starved with no food and as time passes internal conflict would have arised.
And most of all she would have never found those new lands and stayed stuck in that small lonely island and till her last breath would regret not taking that First Step." Alfie said.
Rona looked down as she was shaken, in a way she considered that young girl in the story herself.
And now like her she was on that cliff just like the young girl, it was her decision at this moment that would change her world, her choices will either lead her to regret or happiness.
And with a determined expression, she looked up at Alfie.
"I will also take that step." She said with confidence.
For half a second one could have seen a smile on Alfie's face so wide he could have been mistaken for the Joker.
If Alfie was given a system in this life he would have leveled his 'Persuasion' up to 5 points.
