Battosai was a title given to the male protagonist, Kenshin Shimura, in Ronin Kenshin.
Kimura Kenshin's original name was Shinta Kimura. His parents died when he was young. After being kidnapped by human traffickers, he was rescued by Hiko Seijurou and accepted as his disciple. He was renamed Kimura Kenshin. He used to be an executioner and was known as the Battosai Executioner. His school was called the Flying Sword Style, and his master was Hiko Seijuuro, the 14th successor of this school.
In the last years of the shogunate, Kenshin had committed many acts of murder. However, after the Meiji Restoration, he swore not to kill again and began a wandering life.
