the useful fool

This statement was not accurate. From a psychological point of view, some individuals who were considered " stupid " often tried to think hard and find solutions when they encountered problems. Once they were " enlightened," they would perform better in independent thinking. Moreover, there were many great men in history who were seen as stupid in their childhood and often ridiculed by others. However, after experiencing the legendary experience, they were enlightened and finally made outstanding contributions. For example, Guo Jing seemed clumsy in martial arts, but he was down-to-earth and worked hard to bring out the "steadiness" to the extreme. Through long-term persistence and hard work, his martial arts improved day by day and became an expert. Xu Sanduo performed the worst among the recruits, but through his own efforts, he became a top soldier from a "cowardly soldier" who was laughed at by others. Therefore, one could not simply assume that a fool would always be a fool.

The appearance of great wisdom did not mean that he was stupid, but rather, it was a manifestation of high intelligence. People with great wisdom often had high wisdom, but they did not easily show their intelligence. On the surface, they might be mistaken for stupidity. This trait may be reflected in their unwillingness to be moved by small profits, quietly accumulating contacts, focusing on their own development, and so on, rather than a real lack of ability or wisdom. They were well aware of the possible negative effects of showing off their abilities and knew how to hide their wisdom. This was a kind of wisdom that surpassed ordinary people's understanding and had nothing to do with stupidity.

In the context of Patriarch Bodhidharma's words, the phrase 'as foolish as a fool' was used to describe the state he was in after he came to the Eastern Land. Patriarch Bodhidharma traveled from the South India to the Eastern Land with the purpose of imparting the Dharma and seeking help. However, he encountered many situations in the process and did not achieve the ideal opportunity. At this moment, he was in a state of stupidity, which was also a manifestation of his attitude in the process of imparting the Dharma in the Eastern Land.

" Stupid " had different meanings in different context. From the literal meaning, the word " stupid " in Chinese characters was constructed as " Chun + Chong + Chong ", which depicted the wriggling of insects in spring and the slow crawling of insects. When this slow and not very agile state was used to describe people, it meant that they were somewhat stupid." Stupid " was composed of " bamboo + this ". Its original meaning was " white inside the bamboo ", which referred to the layer of white membrane inside the bamboo. The part inside the bamboo was invisible, which led to a state of understanding in the heart but unable to speak out. For example," stupid mouth and stupid tongue " also represented a kind of stupid performance. When describing a person's character or behavior, there were many ways to describe a person as stupid. The first type was people who looked stupid, but they might be very wise. They had deep wisdom in their hearts and understood the importance of peace. They would not be calculative. This type of person had a bigger and more generous structure in interpersonal relationships. They did not put themselves in a lower position because of small interests. They remembered that " the friendship between gentlemen is as light as water " and it was easier for them to gain the trust of others. Even if there were disappointments in life, they could be at ease. They would take positive actions when they needed to change, and would not be bothered by occasional gains and losses. There was also a type of person who was relatively " dumb " in terms of eloquence. Although their verbal expressions were not very fluent, they paid attention to actions and used actual actions to prove their credibility. They would actively lend a helping hand when others needed help. It was also worth building a trust relationship. In addition, there were also people who were really stupid and clumsy in thinking or doing things. For example, they were clumsy and clumsy, or they showed a lower level of ability and wisdom in thinking and dealing with problems.
