The Midnight Diver
In the gaslit metropolis of Vaelis, your worst nightmares don't stay in your head. They drop into the abyss below.
Every night, as the city sleeps, the subconscious minds of millions project down into The Reverie—a shifting, bottomless subterranean labyrinth where human fears, guilts, and dark desires manifest as physical, flesh-eating monsters. By day, the city runs on Aether, a glowing supernatural fuel harvested from the depths. By night, mercenary squads known as Divers plunge into the dark on iron cables to hunt the horrors before they can claw their way to the surface.
Ren is a low-tier Diver with a broken mind. He is a Permanent Lucid—a perpetual insomniac whose brain is completely incapable of dreaming. In the waking world, it’s a exhausting curse. But inside the abyss? It makes him a ghost.
Because Ren has no dream-signature or emotional warmth, Nightmares literally cannot see, smell, or track him. He is a human-shaped hole in reality, moving through the deadliest zones entirely undetected while his empty soul absorbs the unique traits of the very dreamscapes he conquers.
Alongside a hyperactive mage whose volatile mind threatens to incinerate them all, and a veteran vanguard keeping them anchored, Ren is just trying to clear his crew's debts and survive. But during a routine dive, they stumble upon a golden vault hidden in the deep. Inside lies the dying Emperor’s ultimate nightmare—and a mysterious, gossamer thread of gold anchors itself directly to Ren’s blank soul, pulling him down into the uncharted, primordial depths.
The high-born elite think the greatest danger is what crawls up from the dark. They have no idea what’s waiting at the bottom.
To protect his found-family and uncover the truth of his own empty mind, the ghost of Vaelis must cut his lines and plunge into the absolute deep.
