First, his birth into royalty was important. But more so was his realization of the world's sufferings when he saw an old person, a sick one, and a dead one. This led to his leaving home. He then engaged in years of spiritual practice. He had to overcome many temptations and difficulties during his meditation. His enlightenment moment was a turning point. After that, he dedicated his life to spreading his teachings across different regions, which was a major part of his life's story.

The Buddha's life story has many important events. His birth was quite special as he was prophesied to be either a great king or a great spiritual leader. After seeing the four sights which exposed him to the realities of old age, sickness, death, and the path of renunciation, he left his palace. During his journey, he practiced extreme austerities but then found the Middle Way. Eventually, under the Bodhi tree, he achieved full enlightenment and then spent the rest of his life teaching others about the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path.
