Karena kedudukannya yang seperti sebuah bintang di kegelapan malam itulah, Fatimah dijuluki "Az-Zahra" (yang memancarkan cahaya). Sabar menjadi salah satu keutamaan sifatnya. Fatimah kecil teku menggantikan peran almarhumah ibunya untuk melayani dan membela Rasulullah Saw. Berulang kali ia menyaksikan kekejaman kaum Quraisy terhadap sang ayah saat berdakwah, tetapi tidak pernah mengeluh. Dalam kesehariannya, ia memilih hidup sederhana. Ia juga tidak pernah mengatakan sesuatu hanya berdasarkan hawa nafsu. Kebiasaan itu melembutkan hatinya sehingga ia tidak pernah memilih cara kekerasan untuk menghadapi masalah.
