Joan Miro and Max Ernst were both important figures in the field of surrealist art.

Milo was born in Barcelona. His father was a goldsmiths and jeweler, and his mother was from a family of carpenters. He was introverted and shy. When he was young, he studied at Barcelona's Fine Arts School. After that, he experienced dropping out of school, working and getting sick, recuperating, and so on. The recuperation life had a preparatory effect on the formation of his artistic style. After that, he returned to Barcelona to continue his studies and met some artists. In 1919, he went to Paris and met many friends in the art world, including picador. His artistic style was free and lyrical. Most of his paintings were lines, shapes, embryos, and other shapes similar to children's doodles. It was the result of a combination of free fantasy and careful consideration.

Ernst was born into a middle-class Roman family in Bruhl, near Colombo. His father was a teacher for the deaf and mute and an amateur painter, which inspired Ernst's contempt for authority and influenced him to paint. Ernst entered the University of Berlin in 1909 to study many subjects. He was interested in the art of mental patients and began to draw. He had joined the Rhein-Expressionist art group and was a major pioneer of the Dada movement and Surrealism. He had no formal artistic training, but he invented techniques such as 'repression' and 'doodle'. He was also famous for his novels composed of pieces.

The two of them had worked together, for example, they designed for Sergei Diaghilev together, and with Miro's help, Ernst developed paint. They were both active in the Surrealist circle, participating in events such as the inauguration of the House of Glass in 1932, and had surrealist friends such as Paul Eluard.
