Amundsen and Scott were both polar explorers. They both had the goal of conquering the South Pole.

Amundsen was a Norway polar explorer, born on July 16, 1872. On August 9, 1910, he and his companions set sail south from Norway on the exploration ship Fram. They chose 52 Eskimo dogs as their means of transportation. This kind of dog was adapted to the extreme cold of the Arctic Circle, which was similar to the extreme cold of the South Pole. In addition, the dog was small, had low energy consumption, and was agile and fast. Arriving in Antarctica in January 1911, he set up camp in Whale Bay and set up a series of supply points on the glacier (now known as the Ross Ice shelf). On December 14, 1911, he arrived at the scientific experiment station at 90 degrees south latitude of Antarctica. The whole journey was relatively smooth. He became the first person to reach the South Pole and planted a Norway flag. After three days of observation, he left the South Pole and was killed by a blizzard on his way back.

Scott was a colonel in the British Navy. He was born into a military family in 1868. He had rich sailing experience, a tenacious and brave personality, and strong organizational skills. On June 1, 1910, Scott said goodbye to his family and led the expedition to the South Pole. When they first arrived in New Zealand, they were trapped by the floating ice in the Antarctic sea for more than 20 days and consumed a lot of survival supplies. When they arrived at the scheduled location, the caterpillar tractor used to transport goods fell into the sea after traveling 100 kilometers. When they learned that Amundsen's expedition was only 110 kilometers from the South Pole, they sped up their progress. Scott's expedition team initially had 30 people. After splitting up, the remaining five continued to move toward the South Pole. They used Siberian ponies as a means of transportation, but the extremely low temperature in Antarctica was beyond the limits of the ponies. The horses fell to the ground and died, and the expedition team could only rely on manpower. They arrived at their destination on January 18, 1912, nearly five weeks after Amundsen's team. On the way back, they encountered extremely bad weather. The team members endured the cold and fatigue. Some of them had their fingernails frozen off, while others had their toes frozen off. In the end, five people died one after another. They were only 20 kilometers away from the next supply point. Scott left a shocking note on his deathbed. His experience was recorded in his diary. Later, the rescue team found his body, his diary, and a 16-kilogram rock specimen.
