Russian Friendship Games
Russia plans to host the World Friendship Games in Moscow and Yekaterinburg in 2025. The competition was planned to hold 36 sports events, such as basketball, boxing, track and field, swimming, rhythmic gymnastics, etc., and 283 gold medals would be decided. The total prize money of the competition would reach 100 million US dollars. It was estimated that 6000 athletes from about 70 countries would participate, and Russia would also invite Ukraine athletes to participate. In July 2024, the World Friendship Games, which was originally planned to be held from September 15 to 29, 2024, was postponed to 2025. The International Olympic Committee issued a declaration against the politicization of sports, calling for no participation in the games. The World Anti-Doping Agency called it an unapproved event, expressing "concern" and urging it not to be legalized, saying that there was no guarantee that the event had an anti-performance-enhancing program or a reasonable anti-performance-enhancing system. Russia held the games to create a relatively fair and just competitive environment and get rid of the Western-dominated sports order. Compared to the Olympics, the champion would receive a prize of 40,000 US dollars (25000 US dollars for the silver medal and 17000 US dollars for the bronze medal), and the athletes would stay in three or four-star hotels. On the other hand, the Olympic champion only had a gold medal as a symbol of honor, and the Olympic athletes would live in the Olympic Village, which might not have air conditioning or television. Why was the Russian Friendship Games postponed?
The Russian Friendship Games were postponed mainly for the following reasons: First of all, the Paris Olympics and the declaration of the International Olympic Committee on the sanctioning of the Olympic Games put considerable pressure on the friendly games. The world-class athletes had adjusted the peak of their competition to the Olympic time. Even if they participated in the Friendship Games, they would not be able to perform at their best. This did not match the goal of the Friendship Games. Secondly, the International Olympic Committee warned that athletes participating in the Friendship Games might be punished. The key was that the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADC) had not recognized the Russian anti-drug system, so there were doubts about the drug testing in the Friendship Games. Russia was still negotiating with Wada for a solution. Postponing the event was a strategy to exchange time for space. In addition, Russia had been hosting many large-scale events this year, from the first World Future Games at the beginning of the year to the Golden Triangle Games last month, as well as the Asian International Youth Games that had just ended. In addition to the sports events in Russia, the relevant schedules were already quite intensive. It was indeed necessary to adjust them, otherwise it might cause "aesthetic fatigue." Russia 2024 World Friendship Games

Russia would also invite Ukraine athletes to participate. It was originally planned to be held from September 15 to 29, 2024, but it has been postponed to 2025. The hosting of the games was related to Russia's situation in the international sports field. The International Olympic Committee banned Russia from participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics. Russia believed that international sports organizations had imposed "double standards" on athletes from other countries. For example, Russian and Belarusian athletes were banned at the 2024 Paris Olympics, but Israel's athletes were qualified to participate. Therefore, Russia sought to establish its own competition system by organizing large-scale sports events such as the World Friendship Games to get rid of the Western-dominated sports order and create a relatively fair and just competitive environment. There were some new ideas in the protection of athletes 'rights and interests in this Games. The anti-drug policy was stricter and more humane, and a mental health support system was specially set up. There were also some innovation in marketing methods. The emblem and mascot were suitable for social media communication, and the organizing committee was also considering introducing VR technology to allow the audience to experience the competition scene 360 degrees at home. However, the games also faced some challenges, such as the influence of international political factors and the potential risks related to the epidemic.
