Doctorate programs in Hong Kong usually took three to five years. Among them, some universities offered a three-year PhD, usually requiring applicants to have a master's degree (the same research direction). There were also four-year PhD degrees, mainly for undergraduate graduates or students with a teaching master's degree background. In addition, PhD students at the University of Hong Kong generally studied for two to eight years, with the longest being eight years. Students with a 2-year MPPhil degree have the opportunity to transfer to a PhD (by obtaining candidacy and fulfilling the course requirements);PhD students also have the opportunity to transfer to MPPhil during the initial period of the program. If you want to graduate, you must at least meet the following requirements: First, complete the PhD thesis and pass the defense. The PhD thesis needs to be completed in stages during your PhD study.(e.g. complete three to four papers in stages), these papers must be related to the topic and related to each other; second, publish a sufficient number of conference papers or journal papers (Generally, two conference papers and one journal paper, the tutor may propose additional conditions); Third, they had to pass an extremely strict thesis duplicate checking system. Hong Kong had high requirements for academic integrity. If they did not meet the duplicate checking requirements, not only could they not submit the thesis, but they would also have a bad record (For example, the Chinese University of Hong Kong had independently developed a duplicate checking system called Veriguide, which required students to upload and check their homework regardless of size). Is it difficult to graduate from an on-the-job graduate student
The difficulty of graduation for on-the-job graduate students depended on the situation. Some documents stated that it was more difficult for in-service graduate students to graduate. They needed to deal with the time allocation between work and study, and have the ability to learn independently and adjust. In addition, developing a scientific study plan and cultivating good study habits and methods were also key to improving learning efficiency and results. However, there were also documents that stated that it was not difficult for in-service graduate students to graduate, especially for candidates with the same academic level. There was no need to take an entrance exam, and they only needed to take the course and the graduation exam. Therefore, there was no clear answer as to whether it was difficult to graduate as a part-time graduate student.

It was designed to make more audiences understand and accept it, especially the mainland audience. To be specific, the Mandarin versions of the Hong Kong, Guangzhou and Guangzhou versions included movies such as Infernal Affairs, Sweet Honey, and Chungking Express.
