Search for a suitable mascot
There were many factors to consider when choosing a suitable mascot. For commercial purposes, such as restaurants, clothing stores, etc., it was best to design a mascot with eyes because eyes could close the distance between the mascot and the customer. For example, Jellycat's iconic smiley face had a unique appeal because of its eyes. From the perspective of regional culture, if it was a hospital, like the mascot of the 180th anniversary of Renji Hospital,"Renbao," it drew elements from the dragon in traditional China culture. It echoed the year of the hospital's establishment (1844, the year of the dragon), showing the warmth and care of the medical staff. It was suitable to reflect the mission of the hospital to save the dying and heal the wounded. In terms of tourism, Tai 'an's Shigandang, Gangan and Dangdang city mascots were suitable for promoting the city's tourism culture. For the sports games, the mascots of the Hangzhou Asian Games, such as the "Jiangnan Yi" combination, represented the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, Zongzong represented the ruins of Liangzhu Ancient City, and Lianlian represented the West Lake. They were suitable to convey the profound cultural heritage of Hangzhou. In terms of games, Paimon in "Original Gods" had a cute image. He was the companion and guide of the players, and was suitable as a mascot in the spread of game culture. In addition, they could also consider their own preferences, industry characteristics, target audience, and other aspects to determine a suitable mascot. Dragon Mascot
The mascot of the Year of the Dragon in 2024 was "Long Chenchen", which was the mascot of the Spring Festival Gala in 2024. Its color scheme selected traditional China colors such as Da Ran, Yan Chi, Xiaxia, Jade Bottle, Chunchen, etc. The shape combined the elements of five national treasure-level cultural relics, among which the mighty and elegant dragon fin was inspired by a dragon in Xi'an. In addition, there were some mascots that were related to the Dragon Year in the traditional sense, such as the red rope, which had the meaning of red fire and good luck. However, people born in the year of the dragon were not suitable to wear dragon-shaped pendants because of the "self-punishment". Instead, they were suitable to wear agate pendants (such as the Five Elements Transfer Bead made of agate), the Buddha Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, topaz, and peach wood jewelry (such as peach wood bracelets or necklaces). These accessories could ward off evil spirits and protect peace. There was also the image of Pulao, which was also seen as an image that could bring good luck. The novel "Flood Dragon" is equally exciting. Everyone is welcome to click and read it!
