For my host family in the UK, it was the afternoon tea. The host mother prepared the most elaborate afternoon tea. There were delicate sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam, and various kinds of tea. We would sit in the living room, chatting and enjoying the tea. It was such a quintessentially British experience that I'll always remember. It made me feel like I was in a classic British movie.
In my host family in Spain, the most interesting part was the flamenco dance. My host family was really into it. They took me to a local flamenco show. The passionate dancing and the rhythmic music were so captivating. And then, they taught me some basic flamenco steps at home. It was a lot of fun trying to move my body in that energetic way.

On my first trip abroad to Italy, the most fascinating aspect was exploring the ancient ruins in Rome. Standing in the Colosseum made me feel like I was transported back in time. In my family story, the most interesting part might be when my parents decided to start their own business. They took a big risk. They worked day and night, and finally, they made it successful. It taught me that with determination and hard work, you can achieve anything.

My host family abroad was really nice, but there was this one time that was super awkward. They were having a family gathering and they asked me to sing a song from my country. I'm not a good singer at all. I tried to decline politely, but they were so insistent. So, I sang, and it was really off - key. Everyone was trying to be polite and clap, but I could tell they were a bit disappointed. It made me feel really self - conscious for the rest of the evening.

In our family vacation, the most interesting part was when we went snorkeling. We saw colorful fish and beautiful coral reefs. It was like entering a whole new world.
What are some study abroad host family horror stories?
I heard of a situation where the host family promised a clean and comfortable living environment but it was the opposite. The room given to the student was dirty and full of bugs. The heating didn't work during the cold winter months either. And on top of that, the family members were always arguing loudly, creating a very tense and unpleasant atmosphere for the student who was trying to study and adapt to a new country.
What is the most memorable part of your own family story?
For me, it was the time when we went on a long road trip as a family. We saw so many beautiful sceneries and had a great time together.
What is the most challenging part of your step family story?
For me, it was dealing with the different expectations. My step - parents had different ideas about how things should be done compared to what I was used to. It took a long time to find a middle ground. We had a lot of discussions and sometimes arguments before we could understand each other's point of view. It was a process full of misunderstandings and hurt feelings at times.
