Was Guan Yu as strong as he was in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms?
Guan Yu was indeed a very powerful general in official history. He was known as the "Warrior Sage" and had a very high status and influence in Chinese history. In the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Guan Yu was portrayed as a mighty and brave hero, but in fact, these descriptions did not conform to the facts in the official history. In the Chronicles of the Three Kingdoms, Guan Yu was described as "eight feet tall, with a face like dates, eyes like bright stars, a waist of ten girths, majestic and valiant". His martial arts were also very strong and he had defeated many powerful enemies such as Cao Cao and Zhang Fei. However, Guan Yu was not described as an invincible existence.
