The 15th meeting of the Conference of the parties (COP15) of the United Nations Convention on Biological Species was held in Kunming. The meeting was divided into two stages. The first phase of the meeting was held on October 11 - 15, 2021 in a combination of online and offline. The theme of the conference was "ecological civilization: building a community of life on Earth", including three parts: official meetings, side events, and an exhibition. 196 parties, relevant United Nations agencies, relevant international organizations and other officials attended the conference, and it was estimated that there would be 10,000 people. In order to host the conference, Yunnan had made preparations for various work in the province, formulated relevant rules and regulations, and worked out work plans. It had initially completed the budget preparation and done a good job in logistics support. It had also implemented the concept of green, safe, and intelligent conference, and carried out work such as the construction of 5G base stations. At the high-level meeting on October 12,2021, China announced that it would invest 1.5 billion yuan to establish the Kunming Biological DiversityFund, and Japan would increase its Biological DiversityFund. On October 13, the conference adopted the Kunming Declaration, in which the parties committed themselves to developing, adopting and implementing a global framework for biological resources beyond 2020, so that biological resources could be on the road to recovery by 2030 and achieve the 2050 vision. The second phase would be held in the first half of 2022 in the form of offline meetings. On January 24,2022, due to the epidemic, the duration and organization of the second phase of COP15, which was originally scheduled to be held in the first half of that year, were pending. Finally, in December 2022, the historic "Kunming-Montreal Global Biological Diversity-related framework" and its package of decisions were reached. The conference was highly anticipated by the international community because it would determine the post-2020 global framework for biological change, set global biological change targets for 2021 - 2030, and look forward to a global biological change vision for 2050. Read more exciting novels for free

The development of living things had gone through a long process, and different geological periods had different characteristics. The Palaeozoic-era lasted for about 300 million years and was a period of rich biological species. Modern creatures appeared in the oceans during the Cambrian-era, and trilobites, mollusks, and echinoderms flourished. The earliest terrestrial creatures appeared in the Ordovian Period. Graptolites and cephalopods enriched the marine ecology and laid the foundation for the emergence of terrestrial plants. The earliest land plants in the Silurian period began to reproduce on land, represented by the Brachiopod and Coral in the ocean. Devonian fish dominated the marine ecosystem, and at the same time, there was the appearance of the myrmidons, the ancient amphibians, the fish, and the later amphibians. Ferns on land began to flourish. During the carbonatite period, insects and amphibians were densely populated. The species and body size of the amphibians were constantly enriched. Primitive reptiles, ancient dragons, appeared, and ferns formed vast forests. A serious extinction event occurred in the Permian. The 180 million years of the Middle Ages were divided into the Trias, the Jurassics, and the Cretaceous. At the beginning, the Permian-Triassan mass extinction occurred, with 70% of terrestrial creatures and 90% - 96% of marine creatures disappearing. During the " Age of Dinosaurs ", the herbivorous dinosaurs ruled the earth during the " Jurassic-Period " and the " Cretaceous Period ", and the prehistoric birds took their first step in the evolution of dinosaurs. At the beginning of the Triassic-period, land was dominated by amphibians and small reptiles. After that, the number of fish species on land increased and eventually evolved into crocodiles. New species such as corals and aquatic reptiles in the ocean replaced extinct creatures to rebuild the ecological balance. During this period, humans evolved from primitive mountain apes to Homo Evolutis, learning to walk, use tools and other basic skills. Living creatures had the following basic characteristics: metabolism, exchanging substances with the external environment to obtain nutrients and energy and expelling waste; growth and development, increasing in size and weight under certain conditions; reproduction, producing new individuals to extend life; irritability, reacting regularly to external stimulation; inheritance and mutation, allowing species to adapt to the environment and maintain population variation; adaptability, able to adapt and influence the environment; In terms of structure, apart from viruses, it was composed of cells, which were the basic unit of structure and function. These characteristics were constantly reflected in the process of biological development and prompted the evolution of organisms to adapt to environmental changes. Read more exciting novels for free
