Right before my skull was crushed, the bat waved in the air. My attacker was distracted by a familiar voice. The man was wearing a dark leathered jacket hoodie that covered his face but not his facial expression of annoyance.
The man faced the direction of the door where the voice came from, I opened my eyes in the same direction to see my father Ken standing at the door. He was confused about what was going on in the basement. It did not take him to realize that I was the one in trouble and he quickly took the nearest box on a counter filled with refined iron fill. In the form of a thick powder, he threw it at the man and blinded him. I closed my eyes and looked away not to get any in my eyes.
Ken shouted at me to run. He did have to tell me twice as I got up kicked the man onto the ground and ran behind Father. We both ran through to the living room where we closed the basement door.
Father began asking me questions about what was going on. Who was that guy? or what happened to our basement where he kept his stuff? I could have answered his questions honestly but at that moment all I could say was I do not know. He believed me and gave me a hug being grateful I was safe. I embraced the second to enjoy his warmth of safety until it was ruined by a loud mild explosion. Ken was shot, and guns were advanced but the sound was still a delicacy to the shooter so it stayed. He started bleeding as I held him struggling to breathe, the blast must have damaged his lungs.
In front of us the culprit, the man from earlier had a gun, where did he get it? Guns are strictly forbidden in Cen City in the commandments of L. Laws, created for the safety of humanity. Regardless if even managed to get one, he had shot someone. In a rage, I shouted at the man asking what did he want. He kept silent, then he started moving. He started ranting about how he had only one simple job and that was getting a package along to someone he called Z.
He looked distressed, I couldn't care less, Father was dying, and with tears in my eyes, I started comforting Father, telling him everything was going to be all right. I started crying harder knowing my lies got the better of me. Father lying on my thigh as I was on my knees and his bleeding back up against me. He reached his hand out to my face, he whispered to me saying, I do not want to die leaving you alone.
I could not care less about being alone, I just wanted my son to be there for me as he should be.
In my head, I started to pray, Lord to save my dying father. He is too innocent to die like this.
They were never answered as his eyes faded into the distance and his struggling breath slowly started to stop and it went quiet. Father...I repeated those words over and over in hopes he would wake up. Louder I grew crying my heart out, this was reality, I lost my father. My mind grew hazy as I looked for someone to blame. There he was, the man, my father's killer.
