First hunt, level up?

As spring arrived Jerod's family started to tend the fields as per usual. They let him play outside while they worked and told Jacob to keep his eye on him to ensure he didn't run too far away from the house.

'Jacob is watching me today so we should be able to go to the forest. He has always ignored me when it was his turn to keep an eye on me so it shouldn't be an issue. Let's go now.'

As Jerod made his way to the woods Jacob just watched and turned around pretending he didn't see him leaving.

'Good, I hope you get lost in there. I may get yelled at for a while but after its all said and done I won't have to watch you ever again.'

Jerod walked through the trees quietly while Lindsay kept scanning the area. She alerted Jerod to a small rabbit in some bushes nearby.

'Okay, first experiment will be with spirit magic.'

Sending out the tendril of spirit magic Jerod was able to reach the rabbit quietly. Once he got the tendril to the rabbit he quickly wrapped it around the rabbit's head and twisted it. The rabbit instantly died.

'Great! The spirit magic worked very well. I can exert about 30 lbs. of force with it and easily kill the small animals. Let's continue, do you see any birds around?'

'There are a few birds in the trees about 20 feet to the right of us.'

Putting the rabbit in the sack Jerod had hid under his shirt he followed Lindsay's directions.

'Okay let's try to get all three of them with spirit magic this time.'

Jerod reached out to the branch of the tree with his tendril of spirit magic and tried to wrap it around all three birds located in the branches of the tree. Unfortunately he found he couldn't extend the tendril far enough up the tree to cover more than just two of them since they were spread out on different branches. He proceeded to grab the birds with the tendril this time instead of trying to twist their heads. By wrapping around each bird loosely without touching them then compressing the tendril all at once he was able to capture the two birds. As soon as they were captured they cried out causing the third bird to fly away quickly. Bringing the birds closer to himself he was able to exert enough force to crush the birds to death.

'Okay Lindsay how far was I able to reach the tendril and maintain control?'

'About 20 feet. Force able to be applied at 20 feet to the two targets was about 1 lbs.'

'Good data. Let's find another ground animal and test some other elements.'

Next Jerod followed Lindsay's directions to some more rabbits testing earth elements to soften the ground to trap the rabbits, then using fire elements to burn them to death. He used wind elements on some birds catching them off guard to cause them smash into trees while flying and using water elements to form a strong pressured water shot to kill them when they were stunned.

'Jerod it is starting to get to be lunch time. We should return.'

'Okay, good idea. We can't be gone for too long. Let's take the rabbit home to give to dad so he can clean it for mom to cook for dinner. It will be great to have fresh meat with dinner instead of the salty dried meat we have had all winter.'

'Okay now remember to crack the rabbit's skull before we get there so that it is believable that you smashed it with a rock.'

'I know, I know. We burned all of the other animals and buried the ashes so no one will be able to see our hunting success and have a good story so everything should be fine.'

Just as Jerod was walking back towards his house he saw another rabbit. Thinking he could get away with brining back two instead of one so that there was plenty of meat for the family he used spirit magic to crush it's head.

Jerod saw a flash of white light and felt pain all over his body.

'Lindsay! What is happening?'

'I don't know! The flash of light was internal, there are no people around us within scanning range, but magic particles surged towards your body all of a sudden. Let me check your STATUS page to see if any spell has affected you.'

As Lindsay opened the STATUS menu she noticed a new tab within the window labeled Combat Log. She looked at Jerod's status and did not see any abnormalities so she decided to look at the combat log to see what information it had since it was new.
