Dimensional Magic

The two weeks at home went by in a flash and Jerod returned to school after a tearful goodbye. However, Jerod was excited because his dimensional magic class would be beginning practical exercises moving forward. So far the class was focused on the theoretical application, current uses, and demonstrations from the teachers.

"Today we will begin with the steps of how to stably create a dimensional path between two points. This is short range travel, whether for objects or people, as you will need to construct the matrix in two locations. This is the basics of short and long range teleportation. To move from one point to another you must activate the initial dimensional point and it must connect to an exit point.

Now, many of you are wondering how do I create a matrix at a point away from my body? That is a great question and one of the many difficulties you face when casting dimensional magic. But, before we get to that lets start from the beginning.

To form the matrix for your dimensional path you will start with your entrance point. Beware that creating just an entrance point matrix can cause a dimensional fissure. So to that end everyone will be spread out once we begin our practical exercise. This is also a way in which some fighters utilize dimensional magic to kill enemies. Here at Hilas we advise against this until you have fully mastered dimensional magic and you will understand why shortly.

The matrix that you create for the entrance point will be made up of a ring of earth magicles, filled with water magicles, and in the very center darkness magicles. The air magicles will then be applied in the direction in which you want the entrance to the portal so to speak. Dimensional paths can only be accessed from the side the wind magicles are located.

Now I will have everyone spread out and attempt to create this entry point. Once you feel you have a grasp of the creation process raise your hand and I will come by to inspect. Do not get discouraged even if you are unable to complete this process by the end of the day. Dimensional magic requires finesse, endurance, and aptitude. Some of you may not even be able to create this initial matrix in the first year of studying this specialization."

Hearing this the students spread out from each other and started to begin their attempts at creating the initial matrix. Jerod was no different and found himself at the corner of the room. Before beginning his attempts he watched his fellow students as they gathered magicles in their attempts.

'Being able to see the magicles for something like this is almost like a cheat. Everyone seems so rough with how they are gathering and forming the magicles into the shape for the matrix.'

'Well Jerod, not everyone is a transmigrator sent here to save the world.'

Laughing internally with Lindsay for a bit Jerod finally got into the state of mind to make his first attempt at creating the dimensional path matrix. Gathering the earth magicles he formed a perfect circular shape and filled the center with water magicles. At the very center of the water magicles he filled in his darkness magicles and finished the matrix with the wind particles as described by the instructor.

Looking around he noticed that everyone else was still attempting to shape their magicles and felt like experimenting before informing the instructor he had completed the initial matrix.

'How do you think the path is created between the two dimensional points? Do you think we could do it with spirit magic?'

'I doubt that is how it is done since we have never seen anyone else use spirit magic. Not to mention even if there were others the distance would be fairly short. Think about how far you could spread your spirit magic in the beginning versus now. The only thing that seems to have increased the range you can send it out is soul strength. I don't think that they can expect children at the age of 12 to be able to create dimensional paths of only a few feet at a time.'

While discussing with Lindsay, Jerod felt his hold on the magicles start to strain. Noticing this he looked at his stats and found that his stamina was ticking away and that half of it was gone already. He also had lost a majority of his mana.

'No wonder they advise against using this as an attack. If you try to use this as an attack it has to be something set up quickly or else you basically put yourself out of the fight before it even begins.'

Jerod let the magicles he had gathered dissipate and rested for a short time to recover his stamina and mana before raising his hand for the teacher to come inspect his progress. After the teacher arrived he recreated the matrix for inspection.

"Jerod! As expected of you, this matrix is perfect. Continue to practice making the matrix so that you can decrease the time it takes to develop the matrix and before the end of the day I will go over the process of how to create the exit point of the dimensional path."

Just at this time a few of the students around the room fell over and fainted in exhaustion. Noticing this the instructor raised his hands and told everyone to stop to take a break. After allowing for several minutes to pass by the few students that had fainted finally roused and sat up.

"Now that everyone is back with us I will go over some additional details about dimensional magic while you rest. Dimensional magic, you will notice, causes a strain on not only your mana but also your body. Much like holding a prepared spell matrix, such as fireball, you will constantly lose concentration the longer you take to form the dimensional spell matrix. The more magicles you interact with the more concentration it takes and the harder it becomes to compete the spell.

This is why I said dimensional magic requires finesse, endurance and aptitude. Aptitude allows you to gather the wind, earth, water, and darkness magicles in a high enough quantity to form the matrix. Finesse allows you to properly form the matrix in the size that you need the pathway and later ensures you have a successful pathway. Finally, endurance is what you will need to hold open the path long enough to successfully complete whatever task you are trying to complete.

Dimensional magic users are some of the best magic users in the world due to the difficulty it takes to master this type of magic. Not only do they have the aptitude to work well with four of six magicles but they also are able to push through the difficulty of getting them into the right shape, quantity, and distance. If you are able to eventually open a dimensional pathway you will learn that practice and patience are required to master this magic.

Before we end class today I would like each of you to take note that this magic should only be practiced when alone so that there are no injuries to passersby. Also, none of you should attempt the next instruction until I give you the okay on your initial matrix creation.

Jerod is the only person in class today that has successfully developed the initial path spell matrix. To that end I will provide you with the information of how to develop the pathway and exit point. The explanation is simple and execution difficult.

Using darkness magicles you will form the path to where you want your exit to be. Once you have arrived at the desired destination you will then build the exact same matrix as you did with the initial path. The wind magicles should be on the side in which you are exiting.

The distribution of magicles in the exit matrix needs to be roughly the same as they are in the entrance. Differences can cause objects moving through the dimension to come out the other side with missing pieces if the exit is too small.

We will end class here today students please practice your initial dimensional path matrix in a safe location. Again, do not attempt to create the exit until you get my approval."

With this the students animatedly discussed the difficulty of creating the matrix as they left and made the occasional comment about how monstrous Jerod continued to be.
