Ellias sat with the vibrant and beautiful fur of the Snow Tiger in his hands. He was so excited to finally work on this hide! His parents had killed the Snow Tiger from the Frost Troll Blue dungeon not far from Litwik. It was the strongest monster they killed at Lv 14. They were both Warriors and used a combination of stealth and ranged Combat Arts.
He remembered the lessons his family taught him.
"Now son" a mature male voice spoke to a 10 year old Ellias. "When you become a real adult and touch the Class Stone you will need to learn to be self sufficient. There are schools and dojo's that will teach you about Combat Arts, but they cost an arm and leg. It's easier to get into a guild in the Adventures Guild and learn Combat Arts from them."
The man was his father, Hunter Klov. He looked like an older version of Ellis, but with a much more lean muscle definition and scars across his body. Anyone that would see these two would instantly see a father and his son.
"Now tell me what you know of Combat Arts" Hunter spoke in a teacher like voice.
Ellias paused and thought. "There are 3 kinds of Combat arts. Offensive, Defensive and Utility."
Hunter nodded his head proudly. "And what kind of Combat Arts does mommy and daddy use?"
"Mommy uses ranged combat arts and stealth utility. Daddy does ranged combat arts as well, but uses both stealth and defensive utility combat arts!"
Before Hunter could speak the door to their house opened. A woman in hunting attire quickly walked out with a large burlap sack in her hands. Even with her dirt covered face Hunter thought she was the most beautiful thing on the planet. Her long black hair, dazzling blue eyes and stunning smile. He knew he was a lucky man.
"And he is so right!" The woman spoke in a sweet motherly voice. "And because he is so right we got a present for him!"
Ellias giggled happily and stretched his hands out asking for his present.
"Come on Jess" Hunter spoke in a reluctant tone. "I thought we'd give him this present once he turned 18 not now. That beast was a tough one for us."
Jess just shushed him and crouched down in front of Ellias. She placed the medium sized bag on the ground between them. Ellias's eyes lit up like it was Christmas.
"Now Ellias. You know mommy and daddy fought some tough monsters in the last dungeon we entered." Ellias nodded his head. He knew when they got back a week ago they were both covered in lots of bruises and cuts and looked almost like zombies. "Well while we were there we got your birthday present and I wanted to wait, but I'm just too excited!"
Jess loved to spoil Ellias in gifts. Mainly with rewards they received from dungeons. And even if Ellias was spoiled a gift from every dungeon from his monster he never grew up spoiled. He saw, even at an early age, that his parents worked extremely hard to get these gifts for him. He would see how bruised and beaten their bodies would be from a hunt or even see them depressed when they lost a party member, regardless how close they were.
Jess untied the bag and slowly opened it, but making sure Ellias couldn't peak inside. "This was a ferocious beast that daddy help mommy kill." She slipped her hands into the bag and quickly pulled out the Snow Tiger hide! The Blue fur glistened in the light. The white stripes almost blinded him on it's ability to reflect the lift. He was truly memorized by the fur it. It was the most beautiful thing he's ever seen.
Both Jess and Hunter welled with pride seeing the look on the young Ellias face. The battle against the Snow Tiger actually almost killed them. They barely managed to kill the beast, but at the cost of a party members life. The two felt much sorrow thinking about their lost friends, but they believed they honored her right by naming the armor this fur would become after her.
"Now Ellias you have to promise me. When this fur is made into armor for you. You must give it a name after your Aunt, Conia. She was a good friend and would even watch you when you were younger and mommy and daddy had to go into some dungeons. Do you remember?"
He nodded his head. How cold he forget!? Aunt Conia would secretly give him sweets before bed when his parents ended up in a dungeon longer then they wanted. She was a sweet woman who truly loved him as a son.
"Good. Now this is yours" she said as she placed the hide on his back. It was much larger then he was, but he felt warm and happy as he held the fur against him.
"We love you son. Happy birthday."
Ellias teared up reliving those memories. He deeply missed his parents, but their former adventuring party was still around. They were like aunts and uncles to him. Though their visits have been less and less lately its no one's fault he thought to himself. They all started to settle down and have their own families to take care of. Seeing them once a month is fine for Ellias.
Even if his adopted adventuring family only visited so often he had other people in his life. His best friends Eva and Okrie. Both were the same age as him and both wanted to make an adventuring party together. Eva came from a middle class family that owned a bookstore in Litwik. They were known for their pale skins and pitch black hair. The family read books and stayed inside more then anything. Eva wanted to become a mage just like her parents and did all she could to learn from Spell Tomes and even saved up money for Universal Skills! These were quite expensive since they were skills any class can learn! This caused them to be in very high demand.
Okrie Yvien on the other hand was a friend he made through his parents. Okrie's parents were part of the same adventure party as his parents and actually owned the butcher shop near by. Besides their butcher shop they were also known for their dark muscular builds. Even his mother looked as though she could wrestle a bear and come out unscathed. Their parents would hunt in dungeons together and split the loot. The Yviens would collect the harvested meat from any beast they killed while the Klov's would collect the furs and hides. This lead to the two families becoming business partners. With the death of Ellias's parents the Yvien still kept their part of the deal.
Though they would get more discounts from any hide or leather armor they bought from Ellias he was never ripped off. The Yvien saw Ellias as another son and watched out for them. When they would get back from a hunt they would bring Ellias over for dinner and hand him the fur and hides. All they asked for in return was he maintain their deal made by his parents and look out for their son when they started to go adventuring.
Wanting to also follow his parents Okrie wanted to become a Warrior and also hunt beasts. Him and Ellias were two peas in a pod. They both wanted to be Warriors like their parents and hunt giant monsters. Though they both wanted to have a simple life of running their respective stores and have their own families.
Ellias focused himself on the task at hand. He had to tan the hide and get it read to be tailored into a suit of armor for himself. He wouldn't be making leather armor till after he got the Warrior class and had learned some Universal Skills Eva promised to let him learn. Even if he could learn the skills he wouldn't be able to use them since he doesn't have any spirit energy. The two skills he was looking forward two was [Armor Enhance] and [Poison Resistance]. These two universal skills were some of the basic skills. Though they required a Warrior or Mage to use and would need Spirit Energy or Mana to transfer the skill into the items.
He knew he had a lot to do. He had to fully tan the hide, let it sit in the sun for a couple days and then figuring out what type of leather armor he wanted. The hide of the Snow Tiger itself was large enough to be a full torso and leg set, but there would also be just enough for a pair of boots, gauntlets or a helmet. He wasn't sure what he would make them into. He briefly thought about making something for Eva or Okrie.
He shook his head and turned his attention back to this Snow Tiger hide. He had big ideas for it, but he needed to prep it before anything else. He quickly got to work.
Over the next couple of hours he would lay out 12ft hide of the Snow Tiger and wrote on a small note pad and listed what he had.
-12ft long hide of a Snow Tiger
-4 limbs w/5 claws each. Each claw is 6 inches in length with a total of 20 claws in total
-Each claw can be made into a weapon or melted down into a single one. To decide later.
-30 Snow Tiger Teeth. Good for weapons or a bone armor as well. Maybe a shield?
-2 Snow Tiger eyes. These are worth at least 10 gold a piece and very useful for crafting stronger magical items. Maybe keep and save for Eva or sell off if I'm strapped for cash.
Ellias was content with what he had. Seeing as he had a lot of options he got back to work and set up the hide to be turned into leather. He set the teeth and claws aside and thought about making them into weapons or shields. If he was going to be in a party with Okrie and Eva he figured he should ask them what they thought.
Thankfully it was now 9 in the morning and his friends would be awake. He went back into his bedroom and grabbed a stone in the shape of an ear. This was a sending stone. It allows people to talk to one another while being a large distance away. He picked it up and spoke into it.
"Eva, Okrie, you guys up? I need you both to head over here. Got some stuff to go over."
He could hear some grunting before Okrie spoke. "Mmhwa. Yeah can do. Sorry I'm moving some large carcasses around for the Wikens to eat. This will help them lay some better eggs." Ellias figured Okrie was already up and doing chores around the house.
"Yraaahhh" Eva yawned loudly into the sending stone. "Okrie next time you are making grunting noises let us know you are doing chores. I would have thought a boy at your age was doing something profane." She said with a chuckle. Obviously teasing the unaware boy.
Ellias chuckled.
"Oh shut up. You both know I would never do something like that. Well not over the sending stones that is!"
The three laughed and agreed to head to the Skinned Fox Tannery. The two figured Ellias was finally going to work on the Snow Tiger hide since his birthday was only a couple days away. Though luckily they all had close birthdays. Eva would turn 18 tomorrow, Okrie the next day and Ellias last.
It only took the two a dozen minutes get to the Skinned Fox. Since they both had keys they let themselves in and met Ellias on the roof. No matter how many times they saw the hide they were always amazed by it. Ellias greeted the two as they walked up and gestured towards everything laid out.
"As you can both see this is everything my parents gave me from a previous birthday. I have a couple idea's about what to actually do with them all. Since we are going to be in a party together I figured we can decide together."
"What idea's are those" Eva asked first.
Ellias smiled and began to explain his plan.
