Chapter 22: Roommates
Ravenclaw's dormitory was a standard four-person room. Bronze curtains hung above the four-poster beds, and there were sky-blue decorations around. Like the common room, the main colors were blue and bronze.
Through the window of the room, you could clearly see the mountains and wilderness in the distance, as well as the Quidditch field below.
There were ten freshmen in Ravenclaw this year, and the boys just filled one dormitory.
Terry Boot, who seemed to have been sorted quite early, was a slightly thin black-haired boy who talked a lot.
Michael Corner, who was tall and thin with brown hair, was more silent.
Gene Croft, who was a little chubby with blond hair and liked to laugh.
After putting away his luggage and washing up, Ethan climbed into bed.
"We definitely can't go out at night today. The stairs in Hogwarts will move, and we are not familiar with the roads yet. It would be a problem if we got lost."
"Before this summer, I couldn't imagine that I would ever become a wizard. My parents are ordinary people. My father works in a bank and my mother is a full-time housewife. When I received the admission letter, I thought it was a prank."
"But luckily, Professor Sprout came to explain everything. Otherwise, I might not have been able to come to Hogwarts," Terry Boot said excitedly to the others, clearly thrilled about entering the magical world for the first time.
"As for me, I don't know if I'm considered half-blood. My mother, a witch, was also born to Muggles. She said that after graduating from Hogwarts, she returned to the Muggle world. My father is just an ordinary person."
"It's just that before I received the admission letter, my mother never revealed her identity as a witch. The moment she did, my father was scared."
"Also, my mother studied at Hufflepuff, so I thought I would be sorted into Hufflepuff too," Michael Corner added, though he seemed more worried than excited.
"I learned from my mother that it's not easy for Muggle-born wizards to find jobs after graduating from Hogwarts. Even if they do find jobs, they're not always good positions. Not many Muggle-born wizards stay in the wizarding world. For example, my mother hasn't used a wand in over ten years."
To prove she was a witch, his mother had to search for her wand at home and finally found it in the innermost utility room.
"My parents are both wizards. My mother graduated from Slytherin, and my father from Gryffindor. Now they both work at the Ministry of Magic. My father said my mother chased him first. Before I came here, they were still discussing whether I would go to Gryffindor or Slytherin. I didn't expect to be sorted into Ravenclaw," Gene Croft said. Forseti thought Gene sounded like a standard protagonist from a wizard family, especially since he seemed to have some talent.
"My situation is the same as Terry's. My family is made up of ordinary people. Professor McGonagall came to explain my admission," Forseti briefly mentioned his background.
"By the way, Ethan, you spent more than ten minutes on the sorting today. I heard from the seniors that it was quite an event. How did you manage that?" Terry asked curiously.
"I didn't do anything special. The Sorting Hat just had a hard time deciding which house to put me in," Ethan replied, omitting the part about the Sorting Hat mentioning Azkaban.
"The Sorting Hat being so indecisive must mean you're suitable for multiple houses. You must be very talented. No wonder the seniors were so excited," Terry sighed.
He had just put on the hat for only two or three seconds before it confirmed his placement. But being sorted into Ravenclaw wasn't bad at all.
Next, the four of them discussed various topics, from Diagon Alley and Gringotts to choosing wands, holiday life, and the day's Hogwarts Express experience. However, most of the talking was done by Terry, with Ethan, Michael, and Gene occasionally chiming in.
Soon, the dormitory gradually quieted down. Michael was the first to fall asleep, followed by Gene. Terry couldn't hold out any longer either and, after saying goodnight to Ethan, also fell asleep.
They had rushed to the station early in the morning and taken the train for over ten hours. Now that they were full and comfortable, sleepiness set in quickly. It was impressive they had stayed awake this long.
Ethan was staring at his panel at that moment. Since entering Hogwarts, he had completed a total of two achievements.
**[Hogwarts]**
*Hogwarts, Hogwarts, Hogwarts, Hogwarts, please teach us knowledge. Whether we are bald old men or children with broken knees, our minds can accept some interesting mistakes because our brains are empty, full of air, dead flies, and trivialities. Teach us some valuable knowledge, give us back what we have forgotten. You just need to work hard, and leave the rest to us. We will study hard until it turns into dung.*
**Achievement goal:** Arrive at Hogwarts (1/1)
**Achievement reward:** Random talent
**[Ravenclaw]**
*We come from the lakeside, we are wise and knowledgeable, we love to study, we are different from ordinary people, we are far-sighted, we never give up, we are Ravenclaw.*
**Achievement goal:** Join Ravenclaw House (1/1)
**Achievement reward:** Enhanced thinking ability, spell talent, and alchemy talent
The rewards were quite generous. The talent abilities were definitely better than a single spell.
Ethan already had double learning talent improvements, bonus wizard talent, double dark magic talent, and potion talent. Now, he had gained improvements in thinking ability, spell talent, and alchemy talent. The buffs were stacking up impressively.
The random talent he received, "Flame Affinity," improved his control and power of fire magic. The deeper his understanding of fire magic, the greater the improvement.
Though the world didn't categorize magic by elements, there were spells involving various elements. Fire spells were relatively common, such as the Fire-Making Spell, Fire Protection Charm, and Fiendfyre.
Forseti was most impressed by Grindelwald's Protego Diabolica, which was both powerful and spectacular.
