Although Yun Ming couldn't sense the spirit beast's aura from a few people, he still judged that they were some of the ferocious beasts that survived in the Star Dou Forest.
Yun Ming realized something. The reason why he couldn't find any information about Gu Yuena before her martial soul awakened was probably because she was a soul beast incarnate. But he didn't know what kind of soul beast she was.
He was puzzled by many things. Why did these ferocious beasts, like Ditian, protect Anping and Gu Yuena?
These people were the kings of soul beasts. Even if Gu Yuena was a hundred thousand year old soul beast, she shouldn't receive such respect. And Anping was just a human.
Yun Ming thought Anping was a human because he believed that if a soul beast transformed, its martial soul would be its true form.
But Anping's martial soul was a book. He didn't think a book could be a soul beast. So he concluded that Anping was a normal human.
Despite his confusion, he saw the situation clearly. With Yali under their control, it was hard for Yun Ming to act.
He tried to calm himself and said: "Ditian, as soul beasts, you dare to come to the human world instead of staying in the Star Dou Forest. Aren't you afraid of being attacked?"
Ditian wasn't surprised that Yun Ming knew his name. He ignored him and turned to Anping: "Anping, what should we do now?"
Yun Ming was taken aback by Ditian's deference to Anping. He couldn't understand what made Anping so special. He felt that Anping was a human who betrayed his own kind and sided with the spirit beasts.
Anping didn't anticipate this turn of events. He didn't think Ditian and the others did anything wrong. He had sensed Yun Ming's murderous intent earlier.
He looked at the opening and said: "Your Excellency Yun Ming, believe it or not, I don't want things to escalate like this. If you hadn't shown hostility towards us, Ditian and the others wouldn't have intervened."
Yun Ming scoffed and said: "Let Yali go, and I'll act like nothing happened today."
Anping shook his head and said: "Do you take me for a fool? You know who we are, and you still expect us to let you go easily. There's no such thing as a free lunch."
"If we let you go, you'll probably summon more humans to hunt us down."
That was exactly what Yun Ming had in mind. He knew that these people were ancient beasts who had cultivated for hundreds of thousands of years. He suspected that they had a hidden motive for coming to the human world.
But with Yali in their hands, Yun Ming had to be careful. He said in a low voice: "Then what do you want? If you let Yali go, you can swear not to reveal your location."
"Swear?" Anping muttered, thinking that an oath was too naive. He didn't trust Yun Ming at all.
Killing them would be the logical choice. But that would cause a commotion and draw attention.
If Yun Ming fought back with his full strength, some of Ditian's group would get hurt or even die. Anping didn't want that to happen.
"Swear...swear..." He repeated the word, then smiled. "Oaths are too idealistic. I don't trust them. How about we sign a contract instead?"
The contract he had in mind was not a simple paper one. It was a ritual where both parties asked a third party to witness their agreement. Wizards usually chose the will of the planes as their witness.
Yun Ming had no idea what Anping was talking about. He said skeptically, "Contract? You don't believe my oath, but you believe words on paper?"
He wasn't the only one who doubted Anping. Ditian and the others thought a contract was too rash. They would rather have Yun Ming swear an oath. They looked at Anping with suspicion.
Anping whispered to Ditian, "Trust me." Then he faced Yun Ming and said in a challenging tone, "I have a way to make you keep the contract. Do you dare to sign it?"
Anping's confidence puzzled Yun Ming. He wondered what Anping was up to.
He didn't think these spirit beasts would risk a fight here. This was the human world, after all. Even though these beasts were strong, they were no match for the humans.
But Yali was in their hands, and he couldn't afford to fight them. Still, he was confident in his own power. He didn't think signing a contract with a kid who barely practiced would harm him.
He thought for a moment, then looked at Anping, who emerged from behind Mr. Xiong. He said calmly, "Are you sure Ditian will let Yali go if I sign the contract?"
Anping nodded. "Of course. I keep my word. So, your Majesty, do you agree to sign a contract with us?"
Yun Ming nodded reluctantly. "If I don't, you'll never let Yali go. Fine, let's make a contract."
He recalled his spirit into his body. Anping picked up the chair that Mr. Xiong had knocked over when he pulled him. He sat down at the table again and took out a lot of materials from the soul guide. He started to prepare the ritual.
Yun Ming watched Anping's clumsy movements and frowned. He realized that the contract Anping meant was not what he had imagined.
Anping was not good at this because it was his first time doing it. He wouldn't have thought of it if Yun Ming hadn't mentioned swearing.
He thought a contract was just a paper document. But Anping's process was incomprehensible to him. He asked, "What kind of contract is this?"
Anping slowed down a bit and glanced at Yun Ming. He explained, "Do you think I'm talking about a normal document? If so, I might as well make you swear with your martial spirit."
"This contract is an agreement between you and me, witnessed by the Universe. If you break it, the Universe Will punish you."
Yun Ming frowned and said, "But you said the will of the planet was replaced by Poseidon. Is it okay to do this?"
Anping gave Yun Ming a disdainful look and said: "I mean the Universe, the entire Universe. Douluo Star is only a tiny planet. Do you really think it's the whole Universe?"
