An ambush! The appearance of the red figure immediately caught everyone's attention.
Daisy reacted swiftly, turning and pushing out her hand almost instantly upon sensing hostility, sending a shockwave directly hitting the assailant.
The red figure was sent flying backward even faster than it came. However, before being hit, it had already thrown its two samurai swords straight at Daisy!
"Thump! Thump!"
With two chilling sounds of blades piercing flesh, Daisy was impaled by the swords, going in deep.
Bloodied blades protruded from her back as Daisy froze on the spot, time seeming to stand still.
This sudden turn of events caught everyone off guard.
The steel armors, however, didn't stop their assault. Lacking ammunition, they swarmed towards the fatally wounded Daisy, intending to tear her apart without giving any chance of escape.
"Mindy!" With a roar, Mindy dived down, for the first time, her unique holy light ability transformed into a lethal form of attack. Merging perfectly with the energy of the Lunar Prism Reactor, her energy spear, glowing with holy light, doubled in power.
She swept, slashed, and stabbed, every movement unleashing terrifying force, sending all approaching steel armors flying, many of them severely damaged.
This was Mindy's most powerful attack - Celestial Fury!
After temporarily repelling Ultron's forces, Mindy quickly pulled out the swords from Daisy, channeling holy light into her. However, despite being effective in preventing immediate death, it did nothing to heal Daisy's wounds!
Daisy's wounds kept bleeding, and neither Mindy's holy light nor the Senzu Bean could heal her. It seemed the weapon capable of killing Wolverine was truly formidable.
Contemplating this, Clark brought out a special stele from his private space. When activated, the half-meter-tall stele emitted a golden light enveloping Daisy. Surprisingly, the bleeding stopped under its glow. Although her wounds didn't heal, they stopped worsening.
Seeing Daisy's condition stabilize, a curious Mindy asked, "Clark, what is that amazing thing?"
"This is the Life Tablet, an artifact from an ancient civilization," Clark explained. "Its energy is not infinite. After healing Daisy, there might not be much left. Your holy light is still more versatile."
Receiving +616 impression points from Wade Wilson!
"Hey!" As a new name's impression points were recorded, a man in a red and black suit crawled out of the rubble: "You can't save her. I was paid a million dollars for her life. If you save her, I won't get my final payment."
Turning sharply, Clark faced the man in the suit. Despite recognizing him, a murderous intent flashed in his eyes.
Unfazed by Clark's hostility, which would intimidate many powerful beings in the universe, the man casually introduced himself: "First off, let me introduce myself. I'm Deadpool, a mercenary. You're interfering with my business, you know?"
Deadpool!
In a world without mutants, such an appearance meant he must be the red figure who escaped from a universe consumed by Dormammu.
Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Deadpool... What made these three able to escape when no one else could?
Thinking this, Clark didn't hesitate to attack, slicing Deadpool into pieces.
Deadpool, however, even dismembered, kept moving, reassembling himself shortly after.
An impressive healing factor...
No, this level of recovery was beyond any healing factor. Deadpool's body seemed unharmed, as if by some cosmic law, he was undying.
This... was a curse from Death!
Realizing this, Clark abandoned the idea of annihilating Deadpool with the Power Stone. He used the Space Stone to send Daisy, along with the Life Tablet, to Asgard.
Leaving Daisy in her weakened state on Earth would only add danger. Asgard was a safer place for her recovery.
Deadpool, upset at his target being whisked away, charged at Clark with swords picked from the ground: "You jerk, bring back my target, or I won't stop!"
Facing Deadpool's assault, Clark simply pushed out his right hand: "Heavenly Retribution!"
With a blast, Deadpool was sent flying back into the wall, only to emerge again, lively as ever: "You jerk, I think your name was Lux, or Chakras... I don't care, you made my target disappear, you owe me compensation! Pay up!"
"Compensate you?" Clark raised an eyebrow, then smiled slyly: "Compensating you is no problem, but you must promise two things. Abandon the assassination of Daisy Johnson and help me kill someone. I'll pay you three million dollars upfront."
Deadpool's eyes lit up, sheathing his swords: "You're serious? No tricks?"
Clark promptly wrote him a check and opened a portal to Xandar: "Your target is Thanos, also known as The Mad Titan. He's not on Earth. This portal leads to someone who looks just like me; he'll guide you to Thanos."
Delighted, Deadpool stepped through the portal: "I'll go kill that guy named Thanos right away!"
After closing the portal, Clark breathed a sigh of relief.
Keeping an unkillable being like Deadpool on Earth was asking for trouble. If he could offer three million, so could Ultron. To prevent Deadpool from being used by Ultron again, sending him somewhere unreachable by Ultron was better.
Let Thanos deal with this undying nuisance.
With Daisy and Deadpool sent to Asgard and Xandar, Clark returned to the Avengers base with the others.
Upon learning of Daisy's safety, a grave Tony said: "Ultron is attacking human order online, starting with the banking system. Many online platforms are under assault."
Tony shook his head, relieved he had Eris; otherwise, he might have followed Hank Pym's path.
"This is no time for regrets," Tony continued. "The only good news is Eris is stronger than Ultron and is hunting it online. But this is a temporary solution. We need a permanent one, or we'll always be on the defensive."
Clark nodded, then his eyes lit up: "Maybe there's someone who can help us."
"Who?"
"Peggy Carter."
Tony doubted his ears: "You mean the old lady who had a thing with Captain America? Cap, no offense, just saying. What can an old lady nearing her end do?"
Clark could only smile wryly in response.
"I just saw her this morning. I feel like she had more to say, possibly related to this Ultron crisis. Maybe I'm wrong, but until we find a better solution, seeking her advice can't hurt."
Captain America offered to accompany Clark, but he declined: "Just a question, I can handle it. You're strong, better stay and oversee the base. Remember, you're the captain."
With that, Clark activated the Space Stone and arrived at the Carter family estate.
Since he was asking for help, he decided to be more formal.
When George Carter heard Clark's request, he hesitated: "My sister is resting, her health isn't good. Disturbing her rest could be detrimental."
Seeing Clark's expression darken, George quickly added: "But she left instructions. If you face an insurmountable problem, she asked me to take you to someone else. That person is in the study and available to meet anytime."
