Pandemonium

"What do you mean the world is ending? What's it this time, a meteorite, an angry politician, or a celebrity snub?"

I couldn't take it seriously. Although it was easy to hear the distress from my parents' voices, I had grown a barrier between the real me and what people saw of me. I'd always try to keep a bounce in my step through whichever method I could. Ironically, the facade that made it seem like I always had a smile on my face often made me hurt more inside as I grew further disconnected from those around me.

"I think you'll understand if you see it yourself..." for once my mom didn't try to argue with me. She instead ignored my comment which would normally send her into a fury. I got actually scared, this was far too abnormal... Grabbing the T.V remote, she turned on the closest T.V.

Pandemonium.

The only word to describe it. Hell had broken through. All around the world, there were reports of what appeared to be gates of differing colours and sizes. Scattered amongst the country and the cities, most countries were in mass panic. Periodically a few creatures would charge out of these gates.

Across the southern border, in the United States, the military had been mobilized. Somehow they had already been prepared and immediately blockaded the gates. Out of the small gates, minor little creatures would manage to wander out, little green men or small bipedal creatures that had an oddly high draconic appearance.

Without any warning, they were immediately shot dead...

The several dozen military men gunned down these creatures with ease. Some people that appeared to be wearing large lab coats rushed in between the minor waves of creatures to gather the now dead abominations.

These things weren't human. They were not of this world.

While we were trying to wrap our heads around such an unprecedented event, the news feed changed from one of the small gates to a far larger one.

The American military had shown up in full force, several dozen tanks, hundreds of soldiers. A sight few people out of the military had ever seen before.

Then, it happened. Three massive creatures lumbered their way out of the gates. These hulking behemoths each held a large wooden club in their hands.

Every single person on-site immediately began to unload everything they had. These three creatures casually ignored the bullets from the soldiers, only being temporarily stunned by the tank shells. They slowly made their way towards the tanks before swinging their clubs with ungodly strength. Transforming the tanks into flat metallic distortions of what once was. Only under the constant barrage of tanks, did one of the shells pierce the monster's skin and down the creature.

The other two creatures frenzied, as they absolutely demolished the blockade.

My parents were right, hell had broken loose...

I quickly snatched the remote out of my mother's hands as I began to surf through the channels. Trying to find the local news network. It had been far too long since last time I watched it so it took me a few minutes to find it.

I just needed to know how we were fairing, how was Canada responding.

We were not prepared. Somehow the Americans knew. Everyone else was caught by surprise. Canada was falling.

We were rather lucky as a whole. None of the three major cities had any big gates like the one that the three creatures escaped from.

Although this was still not a saving grace. The smaller gates still had small creatures wandering out, slaughtering civilians. Sometimes equipped with weapons, other times bare-handed, they'd just slaughter.

Canada was scrambling, we were not prepared.
