It was Prom day in Westwood, students were seen arriving at school with their dates, some were being brought in by fancy cars while some walked to school with their dates by their side.
Nonetheless, everyone was looking good and it was even better looking in the hall.
The prom hall was a grand and opulent space, adorned with shimmering chandeliers that cast a soft, warm glow across the the room. The sound of laughter and music enveloped students as they kept arriving with their dates.
At the center of the hall, a grand stage awaited, with cascading curtains and sparking light. It was the focal point of the room, where the prom king and queen would be crowned later.
The stage was flanked by a dance floor where couples swayed and twirled in sync with the melodic tunes.
Tara was seen walking in next to a guy in her class, brown-skinned, tall, and athletic body that girls admired. He had asked Tara to be her prom but she had refused just last night, she agreed to be his date.
She saw herself walking in with Jay, but he had not proposed to her so she changed her plans.
Tara got in and sat on one of the chairs, the guy leaned towards her.
"I would get us some drink or would you want to dance first? We can do anything you want", he said.
Tara always has her way around boys in school and other schools, they get obsessed and do whatever she wants even without asking, this has been all her life but lately, she found herself hating the attention.
"Yeah a drink is okay, thanks Sam", she answered him with a flirtly smile appearing on her face.
He immediately turned away to leave.
There has been no guy she like on earth that she doesn't have, Jay was different. After making it so obvious she likes him, Jay still doesn't pay attention or seem interested in her. No one has ever made her bother so much.
Tara grabbed her phone and looked at her unread message Jay had refused to open it while his last seen was a few minutes ago. She sighs in frustration and puts down her phone while glaring around.
Her eyes caught Beth and Jackson on the dance floor, Tara scoffs and folds her arms.
"Beth is so unwise, cheating on a caring person for…. That", she said and shook her head, she turned her gaze away and immediately saw Sam walking towards her with cups of drink in his hands.
"Ouuu thank you", she said in a genuine voice, masking the frustration and annoyance she was feeling.
Aunt Kat's apartment
8:15 pm
Nancy looked up to the sound of the soft knock being heard on her door, knowing who it was, she answered and continued watching TikTok.
"It's open".
The lady opened the door and saw her niece in her home dress and her hair in a messy bun while eating chips from a bag and smiling down at her phone.
"What would I do with you Nancy, everyone is in school right now with their dates and you are here eating chips and rotting in bed", Aunt Kat said.
Nancy chuckled and looked up at her aunt.
"Are you going out? You smelled good and all dressed up, you have a date? Who is the man? Is he good-looking?", she asked and gasped. "Is he rich?".
"I know what you're doing and it is not working, I'm the one here to ask questions… why are you here Nancy? You were really serious about staying home? AT PROM NIGHT?".
Nancy stopped the TikTok videos, sat up, and looked at her Aunt who was still standing by the door, looking worried for her niece.
"Why would I be there when I have no date? And apart from that I just don't feel like going there to dance and music and all that… I am not interested in that right now, so why don't you go on out and have fun, you look like you would", Nancy said while wiggling her eyebrows at her Aunt.
Aunt Kat scoffs in disbelief, she smiles and asks.
"What about Tara?".
"She is in prom, she was not supposed to go but she agreed to go with some guy", Nancy answered.
"And Jada?… oh right she is not in your school", Aunt Kat said.
"You know she would have gone…", Nancy stood up and walked towards her Aunt, "but her ex-girlfriend she was supposed to go with cheated with the most random dumb a** in school so yeah she is also home right now but you don't see her mom stressing about it", Nancy added.
"It is your prom though, the last prom in high school, you should be out having fun" " the lady said.
Nancy knew her worried Aunt was right, she let out a smile before walking towards the door and gently pulling out her Aunt.
"Go have fun, leave me be… bye".
Aunt Kat knew no matter what she said, Nancy would not agree.
"You are just as stubborn as my sister, you two just don't look alike you also have her character… fine I will go… just lock the door and I will be back soon, if you get bored.. call me I will be on my way", Aunt Kat said as she walked out.
"And oh! It just started raining outside so don't forget to close your windows… and wear a hoodie… this shirt looks too plain, you would catch a cold", the lady added.
Nancy agreed and followed her downstairs to lock the door as soon as the lady left.
The silence took over, the only thing being heard was the heavy rain stroking the roof of the house. She was all alone in the house again.
"If only Nolan asked me to be his prom", she muttered but immediately disagreed with herself by shaking her head, "Nope! That would get Tara's attention and figure out everything…. Ugh this is so hard!!!! Why must my life get twisted like this".
Nancy ruffled her hair and fell on the chair.
Her eyes met the empty bottle of alcohol and the cup filled with some Hennessy in it, she exhaled deeply and grabbed the bottle as she made her way to the kitchen.
Nancy gently placed it down and let out another sigh.
The sound of a knock on the door made her turn her face immediately.
"Did she forget something?" Nancy said as she walked towards the door wearing a confused expression.
She quickly opened the door and saw him, her eyes widened and her jaw dropped at his presence.
Soaked and drenched from head to toe, water droplets cascaded down his blonde tousled hair, his drenched clothes clung to his body, outlining the contours of his lean physique and hinting at the packs hidden.
"Nolan?".
