Nancy and Jada had woken up as early as 7 am to get prepared to head out to catch the morning bus.
Jada has decided to follow Nancy to the college fair since she was skipping school that day. The two girls stepped out of the room and saw Aunt Kat having coffee in the living room while still in her sleeping robe.
"I made breakfast…", Aunt Kat said.
"Can't… we are going to be late, the school bus is about to be here any minutes", Nancy said while grabbing a banana from the kitchen, she gave some to Jada who immediately peeled it to have some.
"We are good!", Nancy confirmed.
Aunt Kat nodded.
"So explain why Jada looked like she is following you to school and also why Tara isn't picking you up today and you are catching the bus and also why you won't relax to eat breakfast", the lady curiously asked.
Nancy stared at her Aunt in disbelief, she sighed and shook her head.
"Today is my college fair Aunt Kat, you forget everything", she said while walking out with Jada.
"Oh shoot! That is right! Ok, girl! Go kill it! You always do", Aunt Kat encouraged the girl as they walked out.
"And Jada, your mom wants you to call her.. since you won't answer her…", the sound of the closing door stopped the last conversation.
She raised her eyebrows and sighed.
"Having a teenager around is like raising little demons! Oh my!", she said and sipped on her coffee. "Oh damn! It is getting too warm!".
Nancy and Jada got to school and immediately noticed how busy it was, they both walked in and went straight to where the college fair was supposed to take place.
They both looked around and finally saw NYU spot and two students queuing to talk to the representatives.
Most students were either in Harvard, Princeton, or Boston.
"NYU seems to have fewer students trying to apply, I bet you would be chosen! You got this best friend", Jada encouraged her friend who seemed nervous.
Nancy exhaled deeply, "we could still run you know", she said and chuckled nervously.
"Hey Nancy".
Jada turned and saw Nolan smiling at them.
"Jada! You look lit! Nice shirt!", Nolan complimented.
"Thank you, Nolan, love that… black shirt", Jada responded.
Nolan smiled and shifted his gaze at Nancy who was staring at him all this while, she immediately looked away after seeing his eyes on hers.
"You didn't reply to my texts… or my calls", Nolan worriedly asked.
Nancy returned her gaze to him.
He was right, she had been ignoring him ever since the drama between Tara and her, the constant thought of them getting caught kept coming into her mind, and even though it kills her to see his message popping up on her phone and not able to answer him.
Jada took a step back and immediately excused herself from them.
"I… I am sorry! I just needed time alone, you know, after the whole…"
"It is okay..", he smiled at her.
Just seeing her face erased the sadness he had been feeling because she refused to reply to his texts.
Nancy's heart fluttered at his gentle smile even though she had ignored him all weekend, he should have been slightly mad at her but there he was smiling heartily at her, looking so handsome and charming and every word that ever existed.
"You should go now, no one is in the queue… it is you they have been wanting to see", Nolan said, all this time with a smile on his face. He held her shoulders and turned her around.
Nancy looked over at the spot, she inhaled deeply and nodded.
"Okay… I will go", she whispered to herself and took a step forward. She stopped and turned back to Nolan.
He smiled and whispered, "You got this".
Nancy's lips curled up into a smile, she nodded and turned around again.
On getting there, she looked at the brochures placed down.
"Are these new brochures, I saw the old ones", Nancy boldly said. The female representative standing at the spot nodded.
"Yes… check them out!", the lady cheerfully said.
Nancy checked through for a while, she raised her head and turned in the direction of Nolan and there he was still waiting and watching her from afar.
This gave Nancy more courage, she smiled at him and he returned the smile.
She shifted her gaze back to the brochure and glanced through it.
Jada was walking down the hallway slowly while glancing around the school when her eyes caught Tara walking towards her.
"Hey. Tara! Good morning", Jada said.
Tara was happy to see her friend and the overthinking part of her, scared they might not want to talk to her anymore after the whole drama of Saturday immediately left.
"Hey, Jada! Did you follow Nancy to her fair? Is she in the NYU spot right now? She is still going for it right?", Tara curiously asked.
Jada nodded, "yes yes, she is there right now! Nervous but she would be killing it right now", she said and chuckled happily.
Tara sighed and stared at her friend.
"I should not have acted that way toward Nancy, she is such a sweet girl and I acted so mean! I know she was just being concerned for me! I hate myself", Tara said in a low sad tone.
Jada shook her head, "It is okay Tara, you were just hurt! And Nancy also misses you so bad, we all should hang out after this college fair! And talking of that, what school you finally going for? Harvard?".
"HARVARD!", Tara chuckled loudly, "girl!!! I may be smart but I am not going to try that! I am going for Princeton! And Nolan is going for the same I guess, that boy would not say anything about his life! Such a strange boy". Tara complained.
Jada smiled and put her arms around her friend's neck.
"Come on! Let us go to Princeton spot! Let me go cheer for you", Jada said as they both walked away.
"HEY JADA! Wait up!".
Jada knew that voice, she took her arms off Tara and her smile faded on seeing Beth standing in front of them.
