Mina kept trying to drift into sleep, but the face of the man who had repeatedly hit her kept interrupting her peace. She did not feel safe not knowing who the person was, what they really wanted or if they were still a threat to her.
Since Mina had fainted, she had no recollection of the mess they had walked through on their way out of the building, so she was left unaware that all the men who had accosted her were dead. She tossed and turned so much that Zane, who was doing something on his phone, finally came to see what was wrong with her.
"Is it your leg?" he asked, causing Mina to look at him with a startled expression. "I saw it when I helped you into bed," he offered. He could see that Mina was slightly uncomfortable with him having seen anything beneath where her clothing should have covered.
"No, It's not that. I am just so exhausted, but I cannot find sleep. That man's face will not go away. I keep seeing it." Mina could not help but to think how much worse off she could have been if she could recall what happened between herself and President Lee. Losing her memory was a sort of blessing in disguise.
"Can I tell you a story?" Zane asked. Mina agreed, not knowing what the man was trying to get at, but he did not speak for a long time, so she turned her head toward him. "Umm, I kind of didn't expect you to agree," he said, making Mina chuckle. It was a dry laugh with a hint of sadness to it, but it was also a small hint that she would be okay.
Mina laid back in the hospital bed and stared at the ceiling. She was counting the lines between tiles, trying to keep her mind occupied. Eventually her eyes became so heavy that they closed on their own.
Mina felt as though she had only slept for a few Minutes when she was awakened by the sound of clicking heels. She looked to the source of the sound and saw Miss Luna, who covered her mouth in shock, but Mina was too distracted by the woman's outfit to acknowledge the reaction.
Mina was certain it was Miss Luna who had blocked Dom's path. She could tell by the woman's bright red jacket, and if Miss Luna were involved, that could only mean that everything was arranged by either Miss Lisa, or President Lee.
Mina felt her chest tighten at the thought. She wanted to cry, but who would her tears reach? President Lee? Miss Luna? Zane was the only person who seemed genuinely concerned about her, and even that may have been an act.
Mina was alone in enemy territory, and she could not take it anymore. Consumed by anger she snapped at Miss Luna who had yet to speak.
"What did I do to you?" Mina asked. Her question was not spoken in confusion, but in rage.
"What do you mean?" Luna asked.
"Don't play dumb!" Mina shouted. Thinking Mina was referring to the Bachelorette auction, Luna decided to tell the truth.
"I know about you and Tavin," Luna said, and Zane snapped his head toward the woman in shock. He had told Ian that keeping Luna in the dark regarding Mina would negatively impact the wrong person and he was right.
"Me and Dr. Bell?" Mina shot back.
"You don't play dumb with me now. I saw you at the charity event, and I saw you on a date." Mina chuckled cynically. The sound was made even more disturbing by the bruising of her face. She looked like a proper television villain at the end of their rope.
"Yes, we were on a date," Mina snarled. "Do you want to know what we talked about? We talked about you and we laughed about it," she lied. Luna narrowed her eyes about to speak, but Zane cut in.
"Stop it, the two of you," he said. He had already sent a text to Ian, who was already making his way over when he heard his sister had entered Mina's hospital ward, but Mina was not done venting.
"At first, I could not see what it was about him that had you so hooked, but after getting to know him better, I understand his appeal. Also, since we are being honest with one another, he deserves better than you." Luna was not just antagonized by Mina's words, but she was hurt by them.
Absolutely no one had ever spoken to Luna in that way, and she had never heard Mina say anything so disrespectful. It was as if the woman was trying to get her to react, and she was succeeding.
"Well, I'm sure you must have thought highly of him to sleep with him the first night you met him, but then again that is your style isn't it?" Mina knew what Luna meant, and even though she had no idea what the woman was talking about regarding Dr. Bell, she decided to run with it anyway. Unfortunately, she was interrupted before she could spew anymore venom.
"What did you just say?" Ian asked his sister. He had only just gotten close enough to hear his sister accusing Mina of sleeping with Dr. Bell after meeting him once. Not caring about Mina's feelings, Luna repeated herself to her brother.
"That night of the auction, Tavin and Mina were all over each other. They even went into a private room together." Mina laughed at Luna's words.
"Who told you that?" Ian asked.
"No one, I saw it with my own eyes," Luna replied.
"Did you put Mina's name in the drawing for the bachelorette auction?" Ian asked, shocking only Zane.
"It wasn't as if she hadn't sold herself before," Luna started to say, but her brother stopped her.
"Was it you who distracted Dom?" he asked, and Luna's face fell.
"I didn't do it on purpose. I just wanted to find out how long she and Tavin had been dating."
"Who told you they were dating?" Zane asked. He did not like the fact that Mina's life was being toyed with by either Lee sibling, and he wanted to put an end to it before they pushed the girl to her end.
"Lisa saw them. She sent me a photo." Zane looked at Mina who was shaking her head accusingly, but she was still smiling, almost as if she found the whole altercation funny.
"So you arranged to have me kidnapped?" Mina asked. "You're a lot more like my sister than I thought." Every person in the room looked at Mina, trying to place the meaning of her words. The silence was deafening, and Luna finally gathered her wits enough to defend herself.
"Don't talk nonsense. I had nothing to do with what happened to you-"
"And Mina was not on a date with Tavin," Ian shouted. He looked to Mina with an unreadable expression on his face. It was his fault that she was being accused, and he now had to consider the possibility that his sister was the one who arranged for Mina to be captured and sold.
Ian was already struggling to understand why Mina was the one who received the bulk of the beatings, but he may have just stumbled upon his answer.
