Chapter 37: Goddess Su’s secret check-in?!

The first scene Wen Jiexi was performing in is when she receives an order from the Demon Sect's Leader. She was ordered to eradicate a medium-sized sect in the Immortal Realm. As for the reason why? Because the Demon Sect's Leader was unpredictable, his character even more so. When the leader is in a good mood then nothing happens, but when he is not, then the things he might've liked a second before would be immediately destroyed and the means he used were unnecessarily cruel. The Right Protector, on the other hand, was very clear and simple in her actions, she never thought unnecessary thoughts or took any unnecessary actions.

So in a way, although the sect is pitiful because they were going to be destroyed because the leader was in a bad mood, it was the simple Right Protector who was the one sent to kill. At least their death won't be painful. So maybe it was a blessing?

In this scene, there was only Lan Yuyan and Wen Jiexi. Lan Yuyan sat in a chair a few steps above her while she stood below. She was told that later, with the power of CGI and editing, the setting would be turned into a magnificent palace and the ordinary chair that was under Lan Yuyan's buttocks would become an awe-inspiring thone. She silently sighed in amazement at the advancement of technology.

"Alright, everybody, get in your places! Ready? Action!" Director Xie shouted.

Wen Jiexi, no, the Right Protector, walked slowly and stopped a few steps from the throne (later this would become the center of the Palace). She stared at the leader sitting on the throne, not an ounce of respect on her face and yet not a single emotion in her eyes either. She was completely indifferent.

She kneeled down on one knee, with the palm of her right hand placed on her chest and her head slightly bowed as she awaited her orders.

The leader played with his long hair, his bright red eyes staring silently at the person beneath him. After a while, a strange smile spread across his face and his lips were slightly peeled back as he began slowly,

"So bored….it's been so calm lately….let's add some entertainment…at times like these a baptism in blood is required, don't you think?"

There was no response from the figure below but the leader seemed used to this silence from his number one subordinate. Not to mention, his loyal subject was unable to speak. He continued,

"The Wenjian Sect is to disappear. You should know the rules by now." The leader said and then a stone appeared in his hands, flying directly into the hands of the Right Protector. The stone was a rare stone that preserved images, a video recorder so to speak. Any time the Right Protector or anyone else, even the leader, is sent out, they would be asked to wear the stone on their belt. As for what it recorded, it was neither pictures of beauties or secrets of the immortals but pure, raw carnage.

After one finished recording, the leader will peruse through it. If not done well or if the murder was not recorded fully, one better hope the leader was in a good mood. Nothing happened if he was in a good mood. If not in a good mood then…congratulations, you have won the chance to have your head moved from your neck.

Oh, of course, this was something humans couldn't actually do but as long as they made the right motions, editing and special effects will fill in the rest of the gruesome work.

The Right Protector nodded, stood up, and disappeared.

The leader rubbed his chin and then continued to twirl his hair. Looking around the empty hall, he muttered under his breath,

"In this boring world, strength and power can be easily obtained but you can't do whatever you want with it. Now, what's the fun in that?"

"Cut! Ok! Pass!" Director Xie shouted.

"Huuu….." Wen Jiexi let out a sigh of relief. She was able to pass the scene in one take and she could even hear the sound of points being deposited by the system in her ears. It was inevitable, the protagonist of this scene was Lan Yuyan. 80% of it was focused on him. All she had were mostly shots of her back and she was only there to highlight Lan Yuyan.

"Little Xi, not a bad performance out there!" Lin Yan smiled and came over, patting Wen Jiexi on the shoulder.

"Uh…thanks…" Wen Jiexi stared at the boy who literally was just exhibiting bloodlust while playing with his hair and sitting idly in his chair. It really made one sigh, for this guy was really talented and he was getting better and better.

"I only had that one scene today, but the next one is your battle scene, right? I have never seen a live-version fighting scene yet, this will be my first time! Good luck!" Lan Yuyan patted Wen Jiexi's shoulder with a smile and then walked over to the side. He didn't bother going to the changing room, for he wanted to change after watching her scene.

"Right Protector, come over here." Director Xie shouted.

"Director Xie." Wen Jiexi quickly turned and ran over to where most of the crew was gathered.

"Right Protector….right?" Director Xie looked Wen Jiexi up and down with a hint of surprise in her eyes.

"Old Xie, this is the Right Protector I personally chose. Her skills are really good!" Wang Hao took the lead to speak up and then also shouted at Xiu Lan,

"Xiao Lan-zi, am I right?!"

"I've told you before, don't call me Xiao Lan-zi! It makes me sound like a eunuch or something." Xiu Lan gave Wang Hao a glare and faced Director Xie.

"Jiexi actually does have some good skills, at least good enough to defeat our best three we provided. You also watched the video so there shouldn't be any doubt in her skills."

"True." Director Xie rubbed her chin and then beckoned towards one direction. Immediately, a group of twenty or so people in the same uniform came running over. There were men and women, young and old, and all sorts among the crowd.

"There are the people you will be fighting later. In a moment, we will have the scene set up and then we'll start shooting after you familiarize yourself with the setting."

"I understand." Wen Jiexi nodded and watched as the crew carried in pillars, stones, walls, and more.

Some of the people from the group will stand guard by the gate while others will walk in a patrol around the walls. These will be the people the Right Protector will kill but the setting will only be prepared right up to the front of the main Hall. The Right Protector will kill directly all the way from the main entrance to the main hall and wherever she went there will be corpses. Of course, she will use less than 30% of her power and the reason was to let the disciples send messages to their Masters and lure those old farts out of hiding. In the Right Protector's mind, it was much more convenient and less time-consuming to have these people gather together and then kill them all. Compared to her running around after them, it was much more effective and saved a lot of time.

Because of this, a lot of extras would be needed. It was said that a large number of extras will be coming on set tomorrow, so they would separate the scene into two parts for now. However, Wen Jiexi did not pay attention to the talk about extras because she needed only to pay attention to how she should play her role.

She stood to the side and stretched while she watched them prepare the set. She didn't want to get into an accident because her muscles were too tight and caused a cramp and so on.

"Everything's about ready, get in our places!" En minutes later, Director Xie walked around and announced loudly, checking the set,

"Ready? Action!"

In front of the Immortal Sect's grand gates, a placard with the words 'Wenjian Sect' was engraved on the font. In the eyes of ordinary people or low-level cultivators, this might be a highly admired and respected order. However, in the eyes of the Right Protector who only a few adversaries can match in strength, this Sect was something to laugh at and was not worth mentioning.

Fluttering lightly in the air, she was not flying on a sword and yet she was floating above the ground. The Right Protector merely continued forward indifferently and soundlessly.

"Halt, who goes there?!" The four Wenjian disciples that guarded the gate pulled out the swords on their waits and watched as the shadowed woman slowly approached in front of the gate. Although there was no aura surrounding the woman, those indifferent eyes held no goodwill in them. And no goodwill means that there was malicious intent.

"A body in all black, an expressionless face, no sword and the weird body technique that allows you to fly, you are…The Demon Sect's Right Protector!" The oldest disciple of the group looked at the Right Protector's face, his eyes widening as he exclaimed in horror,

"H-hurry! Send the distress signal!" He knew that his group of gatekeepers could not escape but he had to send a report to an elder!

With their skills, even if the Right Protector had no swords, they would not be able to escape. Then they could only send the signal flare to their other disciples. The signal flare that should only be used in the most precarious of times was now being used at the very gates of their own sect. Their hearts grew heavy at the thought.

"Oh…oh!" A younger disciple reached his hand towards his belt and took out a singular red sphere. But before he could detonate it, he fell to his knees. Blood oozed from his neck and the hand that held the red sphere also fell to the ground.

"You…." The disciple's hand covered his neck and because of his one word, blood began to drip from the gap that formed underneath his fingers. The blood continued to flow despite his efforts.

"Cough….." He coughed up blood, his trembling hands pointed towards the right guardian.

"You shall receive retribution…." The words fell softly from his lips.

The Right Protector turned towards him but there was no change in her eyes. These people were just too weak. To her, they were just like ants and they were easily killed. They didn't even have the qualification to wield weapons.

With one outstretched hand, the sphere the disciple was holding flew towards her side. Even the spheres that were hidden in the other three disciples' clothing fell out and over towards her. A total of ten spheres were suspended in the air beside her. With this many, there was no need for her to let any of them live to spread the message. The Right Protector pointed upwards the red sphere immediately flew into the air at alarming speeds. Due to the extreme speed, there was a loud boom, like the sky was breaking.

Bang!

Red fireworks exploded in the sky and painted the sky in red.

"Cut!" Director Xie suddenly shouted.

"Those lying on the ground, don't move!" She cried, pointing at the several 'corpses' on the ground. Originally the four disciples wanted to stand up because of the 'Cut!' Director Xie yelled but immediately returned to their original form. Fortunately, they didn't make any big movements and they were only slightly different from their original positions. Also, as non-protagonists, Director Xie didn't require much from them.

"Is there a problem, director?" Wen Jiexi turned around and asked, feeling a little uneasy.

"No, no, there aren't any big problems, just wait a second…" Director Xie motioned for Wen Jiexi to be quiet and whispered something to the others beside her.

Wen Jiexi let out another sigh of relief. It seems that she was not acting too badly then. Watching the core members of the crew whispering, she could only stand there and shake her head silently to reject Li Lingmeng's offer of water. The extras who were 'corpses' were still lying there professionally and only a few minutes had passed. She didn't need to drink water and rest every two minutes, she was not that delicate.

Five minutes later, Xiu Lan walked over quickly towards Wen Jiexi,

"Jiexi, Director Xie was hoping you could change your gesture when pointing up. Just do a quick flick of the finger. As the Right Protector who can kill people immediately, we felt like it wasn't right for her to use that much movement to send the signal flare. That's it."

"I understand." Wen Jiexi nodded and sighed with relief, so it was just changing up the movements a little.

"Hahaha, take it easy. Getting a 'cut!' doesn't mean you'll get scolded. Your performance has been good so far. We seemed to have picked up a good newcomer." Xiu Lan patted Wen Jiexi's shoulder and smiled.

"Thank you!"

"Good."

"Now, start from the part after you've killed the disciples. Ready, Action!"

The content was almost the same as last time, but the movement was slightly changed. The Right Protector watched the signal flares light up the sky and could feel the commotion coming from the inside. She began to walk slowly and without care. With one wave of her hands, she harvested countless lives. Some disciples took out their swords and rushed up towards her.

At a slow and strange pace, the disciples' attacks were all easily countered, and not one could stand up towards her. All fell into pools of blood on the ground.

With one hand gracefully waving past a disciple's neck, the boy fell down. She kicked up and fell into the air when a disciple rushed over immediately. The disciple slashed his weapon at her but he was no match for her. His weapon was easily knocked to the ground and she landed effortlessly back onto the ground. Wherever she passed, they all turned to dust. These people weren't even qualified for her to use her spiritual power, for she could kill them simply with her hands.

Every few steps, more and more signal flares flew upwards. The signal flares were not reduced in quantity, for more and more populated the sky as disciples continued to die and the Right Protector sent them up into the sky. Every time a flare exploded in the sky, it was a reminder that the enemy of the sect was gradually approaching.

Gather, continue to gather. The more of you together, the easier the cleanup will be. That is the best course of action.

This was not the cautiousness one should be showing when charging deep into the enemy's camp but as if they were going on a casual stroll in their backyard. Everyone thought like this as they watched the Right Protector approached. However, no matter how angry they were or how much they attacked, it was futile. Like a moth running into the flame. They watched as their companions fell one by one and gradually no one dared to stop the monster anymore. Instead, they desperately ran towards the center square to gather.

At this moment, a strange phenomenon occurred in the Wenjian sect. A black figure slowly advanced. In front of her, those who had enough strength to wield a sword attacked her while those who didn't use their techniques to run away desperately. Wasn't this just ridiculous? No, it's natural for people to run to a place they think is safe when in the face of absolute strength.

Finally, the Right Protector arrived at the high ground and looked down towards the square…..

"Cut! Pass! Time for lunch!" Director Xie announced.

"Woohoo!"

"Finally we can eat!"

"I thought I was going to starve to death."

"Huu…' Wen Jiexi patted her chest, she had finally finished.

"Little Xi, you're not bad!" Li Lingmeng excitedly ran up to her and patted her on the shoulder.

"Hehe." Wen Jiexi smiled sheepishly. It was fortunate that except for the indifference on the Right Protector's face, there were very few situations where she had to use a different expression. Actually, except for the physical skills part, We Jiexi felt like she was really lucky to be able to play the role. Although, the martial skills part was a pretty important part of the role.

"Jiexi, no, Master, please accept this disciple." Wen Ting grabbed Wen Jiexi's hands and begged excitedly.

Once most know that although the extras brandished swords, they were all fake. Yet, those swords would still hurt if you got hit! Then watching Wen Jiexi move quietly and flawlessly to dodge the weapons with minimal movement….that type of skill can only be described in one word….COOL!

This…I have no intention of accepting a disciple." Wen Jiexi didn't know whether to smile or laugh at this request.

"Aw, come on! Jiexi, teach me, please! Look at me, I'm so delicate so that means I need to learn a little self-defense." Saying so, Wen Ting blinked her eyes and made a puppy face.

"Wu…." Wen Jiexi stopped back and shivered at the sickly sweetness of it all.

"Wen Ting, ah, let me tell you. I used to ask Little Xi to teach me too, but you have to know that there is a price to pay for such power. You can't do anything without hard work and lots of exercising." Li Lingmeng patted Wen Ting's shoulder and let out a helpless sigh.

"I-I exercise! At least thirty minutes a day…" Wen Ting replied.

"Ha, do you know that Little Xi exercises at least three hours a day? I can't even last the first hour." Li Lingmeng said with a shrug.

"Wha….that's so hard…" Wen TIng's shoulder slumped. Then she looked up at her fellow sufferer and both of them sighed.

"Hey, you two over there who keep dreaming and yet refuse to work, less sighing and more eating!" Xue Molin snapped angrily at them.

"Jiexi, not a bad performance, but make sure to keep working hard." Chu Heling appeared by Wen Jiexi's side. Today, she had a few scenes with Wen Ting in the morning, and in the afternoon she had scenes with the male lead, Yan Haocheng. It was unavoidable for her to have so much work, for half of the drama was from the male's point of view.

It was very hard being the male or female lead. although the exposure rate was high, the drama took the heaviest toll from them and they had the most work. Of course, conversely, the rewards are high but that would depend on your role too.

"The credit goes to Sister Heling. Thanks for always accompanying me during my practices and help me immerse into my role so that it feels like the actual shooting." Wen Jiexi stretched her head sheepishly.

What the group of people didn't know was that a certain someone was watching the whole thing with their arms folded. The person was also emitting a 'DO NOT APPROACH' aura that had people leaving her well alone.

Su Chenyu had originally wanted to watch the little sheep's performance today and so discussed it with her director early on. She had hoped to get off early but today's filming was very heavy and since she was a person that could finish every act in one take, the director had scheduled her for many scenes. One didn't know if this was because the director had put a lot of faith in her or just wanted to exhaust her.

And so, she could only squeeze out an hour at most. When she had arrived, Wen Jiexi had already started her second scene. She had not made herself known for she felt that it might cause a commotion and affect Jiexi's acting.

Watching Jiexi's performance, although she couldn't hear anything nor see the exact expressions, from the reactions of the people around her she guessed that Jiexi was doing well, Then she saw the director say something with a wave of her hand and everyone stopped.

What's going on? Su Chenyu raised her eyebrows. She had thought that Wen Jiexi's acting didn't make any mistakes, even if the girl did have a lot of room to improve. So why did the director call for a cut? Could it be that the director was trying to find a bone in an egg? [1]

Director Xie: I've been wronged!

"Ah….Little Su, weren't you not going to step forward? You said it would affect Jiexi…." Standing beside her, Lin Yunxi quickly stopped the enraged Su Chenyu but her voice was getting smaller and smaller. In fact, even if Little Su rushed in there she was in no position to stop her…..Sister Wang! Why are you here to help me! QAQ

Wang Anyi: Hmph, that's because there's an annoying person surnamed Xue over there!

Su Chenyui watched the situation and had unconsciously walked forwards, If it weren't for Lin Yunxi's reminder, she would have walked straight into the middle of the crew.

She stopped and turned back towards Lin Yunxi. At the same time, her heart seemed a little conflicted. She was a little too concerned about the girl.

"Oh, whew, they're just changing some movements." Hearing Lin Ynxi's words, Su Chenyu raised her head puzzlingly and looked in Wen Jiexi's direction. Sure enough, the scene didn't start from the beginning but near the end. The actions seemed to have changed slightly, so it was just a change in movements like Lin Yunxi said.

"Little Su, I never expected Jiexi to perform so well and so cool!" Lin Yunxi watched with sparkling eyes as Wen Jiexi continued to dodge attacks.

Su Chenyu didn't respond and only watched the shadowy figure move among the crowd. She repeatedly reminded herself that the swords were fake and Wen Jiexi's skills were good enough that she wouldn't get hurt.

However, despite the constant reminding, Su Chenyu heart twitched everything Wen Jixi made a move, no matter how small. Every wave of the hand and a slight kick to the side causing her heart to flutter.

Looking down at her hands, strange emotions, emotions that never appeared before even when she was in danger, riled up inside of her. These emotions were…worry and anxiety?!

"It's over, it's over! I think they're ok now!" Lin Yunxi clapped happily then smiled mischievously.

"Wow, Jiexi is really popular! Little Su, look at Jiexi's side! She is surrounded by all kinds of beauties and the crew seems to be friendly with her too! She shouldn't run into any major problems!" Suddenly she had a feeling she was acting a lot like a gossiping tabloid…just an illusion, just an illusion! Hehehehe!

Su Chenyu narrowed her eyes and studied the people around Wen Jiexi. The little sheep was clearly so nervous and scared this morning towards her and yet in three days she had made friends with everyone, even the crew. Am I really that scary?

Her eyes focused on the pretty and gentle looking woman who was roughly about the same chest size as her. Yet, Wen Jiexi was 'shyly' talking to the woman without fear.

"Let's go."

"Eh, eh? We're leaving now? It just turned twelve, aren't you going to have lunch together?" Lin Yunxi quickly caught up with Su Chenyu and asked in a whisper.

"No." Su Chenyu said lightly, her heart feeling stuffy…and really uncomfortable….

T/N:

[1] To find a bone in an egg: It's too find a problem despite there not being any. Like there are no bones in an egg, yet you purposely choose to look for one anyway.
