Chapter 38: No idlers in the tree house area
There were fallen and burning trees everywhere, grass blasted by magic, thick smoke billowing from everywhere, and occasionally you could see corpses charred by fire or frozen by frost, obviously from the hands of fellow wizards.
"Fear can also breed sin"
Faint screams were heard in their ears, and no one tacitly suggested going to check. Old Wells, leaning on his crutches, muttered something with a complicated expression.
It seemed that the scene before him brought back some unpleasant memories for him.
Ronan saw a tree house in front of him that had been shattered and collapsed, and his eyes flickered slightly.
He wanted to go home.
The magic stones he had accumulated over the past two months, as well as the finished rune stones that had not yet been sold, almost all of his belongings were hidden under an oak tree near his home, covered with layer upon layer of thick fallen leaves, dead branches and stones.
He must get this wealth back.
However, the route they were taking to the town was quite far from where Ronan lived.
If you want to get there, you have to go around a long way.
It wouldn't matter if Ronan was alone, he can run fast anyway.
The key point is that there are three old, weak and disabled people around him, he can't just leave them behind and go alone.
Just as Ronan was thinking about it, suddenly, two figures jumped out from the woods in front.
The group became alert instantly, and Ronan was ready to launch [energy missiles] at any time.
The two people opposite were also startled by them and took several steps back nervously.
However, a few seconds later, the leader, a middle-aged wizard with graying brown hair and a short beard, suddenly blurted out with a look of surprise and joy: "Wells! It's you!"
Ronan was startled and turned to look at old Wells beside him.
"Do you know him?"
Old Wells nodded. "An old friend."
He then walked up with his cane and started a quick conversation with the middle-aged wizard.
Ronan stood about ten meters away from them, squinting his eyes and watching every move of the two people opposite him.
Although he is a friend of old Wells, in the current chaotic environment, it is difficult to distinguish between humans and ghosts. It is normal for a good friend of many years to suddenly stab you.
His five senses were sharp, and he vaguely heard that the conversation between Old Wells and the middle-aged wizard seemed to involve himself.
The middle-aged wizard looked at him frequently.
Ten seconds later, Old Wells came back quickly and said to Ronan, "Barry Fania, with his son, wants to join us and go to the town with us.
If you don't want to, I will reject him immediately."
Ronan's eyes flashed, and he realized that the two wizards he met by chance were impressed by the strength of his intermediate apprentice and wanted to seek protection for the next part of the journey.
Ronan saw the rejection in old Wells' eyes, and after thinking about it, he still agreed.
"Okay, let them follow."
Old Wells' expression immediately became complicated. He whispered thank you, nodded, and turned to reply.
Ronan stood there calmly.
He accepted the two people not simply because he didn't want to embarrass old Wells.
He thought that if he encountered any extremely critical situation in the future, these two outsiders might be useful at the critical moment.
"When did I become so sinister and cruel?"
Coming back to his senses, Ronan was shocked by the changes in himself.
Thinking about the chaos that had broken out and the dark side of human nature that I had witnessed along the way, I felt relieved again.
"These changes were forced upon us."
Old Wells came back with two wizards, one big and one small. The wizard master and disciple expressed enough respect to Ronan.
Although Ronan looks young, he has the strength of a mid-level apprentice and has also practiced body building, so he has a strong physique.
Including those he had killed with his own hands, there were two mid-level apprentice-level black-robed wizards. His strong physique and domineering aura mixed with a hint of blood were enough to make ordinary low-level apprentice wizards unable to even raise their heads in front of him.
The son of the middle-aged wizard Barry is a good example.
The young man, who was only a second-level apprentice, spoke haltingly when he briefly introduced himself to Ronan, which made his father Barry very embarrassed and looked as if he was disappointed in his son.
With two more people in the team, Ronan felt that his plan to go home and get his belongings became even more distant.
However, the team has grown to six people, with two new reinforcements, and is considered a strong force in the chaotic forest, invisibly blocking a lot of malicious eyes.
Gradually, Ronan discovered that someone was following the team.
At first I thought they were some daring and ignorant villains, but later I found out that they were some poor wizards who were fleeing alone and were worried about being robbed and killed, so they wanted to borrow their power.
Ronan drove them away several times, but when they saw that he would not really hurt anyone, they became bolder and more and more people followed him.
Ronan counted them and found that there were more than a dozen!
He was going numb.
Just when he was racking his brains over what to do, Barry, a middle-aged wizard who was among the first wave of asylum seekers, stepped forward and volunteered to help Ronan solve the problem of the "bandage patch" on his butt.
Ronan was curious about how he could solve it, so he let him go.
One minute later,
the size of their team expanded to twenty-two people!
"Your so-called solution is to turn tailing into walking together?"
Ronan's eyes twitched slightly, and he was speechless as he looked at the wizard Barry in front of him.
Barry seemed a little guilty, but quickly said, "Don't let them depend on you for nothing.
I have made an agreement with them. When we arrive safely in the town, each of them must pay you a protection fee of four low-level magic stones."
Talent!
Ronan really wanted to give Barry a thumbs up.
The tree house area really doesn't keep idle people.
The last person to receive this evaluation from him was Jacob, the fat blond boy with the innate Bagua holy body.
Since we can't get rid of them, we might as well just charge them to follow us. This way we won't lose anything.
If you think about it carefully, there seems to be no better way to deal with it.
Ronan began to lead the huge team towards the town, and completely gave up the idea of going home.
Anyway, the property hidden under the tree will not be lost, so you can come back and get it later.
"It would be best if the lost mental energy could be replenished..."
On the way, Ronan thought to himself.
When the proficiency of [Energy Missile] reaches almost expert level, the mental energy required to cast the spell increases accordingly.
Under perfect conditions, Ronan, a level 5 apprentice, could use his mental power to cast [Energy Missile] eight times in total. After eight times, he would have to meditate to replenish his energy.
He went through two battles, fired four [Energy Missiles], and almost consumed half of his mental strength.
Moreover, after fighting with the two black-robed warriors, Ronan realized that each time he cast a spell, more and more mental power was drawn out, and the remaining half of his mental power might not even be enough for the expected four spells.
"[Energy Missile]. Maybe it needs to be upgraded..."
Ronan had a vague feeling. For a moment, his heart was full of anticipation but also a little worried.
