Imprisonment

The room that I once woke upon which was once warm and inviting, was cold and oppressive. The bed felt stiffer as my chills rapidly climbed my spine like small bigs beneath my skin.

In front of me sat Ferdinand glaring at me coldly with a cautious undertone. To my right sat Damien who was fidgety and a little shaken. To my left Gabriel sat with a calm and composed demeanour to him.

"Sam, come clean, do you have any ties to the vail of shadow organisation?"

His face was stern and coated in a frightened suspicion. I was silent, my eyes were fixated on the ground. I couldn't look I'm in the eye. He was composed and threatening, I could tell that he was dead serious. It took a bit of time to compose my thoughts, finally I said.

"I honestly have no idea what's going on," I replied, my voice shaking.I could tell on his face that he wasn't buying it.

"You know we can't sweep this under the rug right?" Gabriel said gently.

"Im saying that we should give him a fair chance, I mean he did save my life," Damien said in a tone that was oddly serious for someone like him.

"Still, the fact that he might be affiliated with those people puts us in very serious danger." Ferdinand said as he stood up and walked to the door.

"Ive already decided that we'll move him to a maximum security prison till we are sure that he has no ties to the cult" Ferdinand left the room, leaving me and my brothers stunned and speechless.

The next morning a carriage arrived with a rather serious looking and powerful man driving it. The carriage was large and extravagant, certainly not fitting for a criminal. He clamped large metal hand cuffs tightly onto my hands. The pain on my wrists was irritating but not all too bad. Slowly I got on and began my ride to the prison.

"So, what lead you to becoming a carriage driver?" I desperately tried to lighten the mood but it didn't work. He tightened the grip on the horses reigns ins rage.

"I don't speak to scum like you." The man said with a gruff and annoyed intonation.

I sat back and let my nerves itch away at me as I slowly got closer to my fate as a prisoner. Beautiful fields of grass and large bustling villages came in and out of view as a painful reminder of the freedom that will be wiped away from me.Slowly a colossal fortress appeared from the distance, gradually growing in size. The grass around the prison was a sick and deceased brown. The clouds around the prison were dark and spiralling. The mere aura of the prison was that of evil and depravity.

When we finally arrived at the prison, the iron gates creeped and squealed open. Out from the prison a bunch of armoured soldiers brandishing their spears at me. Their expressions were the of fear and restraint. I walked out of the carriage slowly with their spears only a half centimetre away from my neck. They cautiously guided me in through the front door of the prison. I could faintly hear the guards whispering to each other beside me.I looked at the barred doors to the side of me only to be greeted by the toughest and most terrifying people I have ever seen. Notably some of their bands were completely trapped in large metal gloves bonded together tightly.

finally I was escorted into my cell. The first thing I noticed was the cold. It was sharp and nearly unbearable.I was draped in rags of the filthiest kinds and my hands were still shackled. The cell I was in was small with walls of stone. To the left of me was a small bed with only a small clump of hay separating me from the cold hard ground. In the corner was a small wood bucket with stains and grime smeared on it revoltingly.

The hours that passed felt like days. The only thing I could do was sit on my hay pile and stare out of my cell. From time to time I heard manic yells of pain and sorrow echoing through the corridor connecting all the cells.

Finally after what felt like months a heavily armoured guard opened my cell door and ushered me into a large canteen. The room was as big as the courtyard in the castle, maybe bigger. Wood tables were strewn about haphazardly across the room. The atmosphere was tense, with a twinge of despair.

I walked over to a line that was formed near the area where food is distributed. In front of me stood a skinny and gaunt looking man. He was clothed in the same ragged drapes as me and the other prisoners. His hands were bound in the metal gauntlets that from what I have been told was only reserved for powerful magic users. He turned around slowly and gave me a curious stare.

"you're sam, Gabriels brother?" The man asked intensifying is stare.

"yeah I am, why?" I asked unsure of wether it was the right choice or not.

"I learned water magic with your brother," he said with a playful smile on his face.

"really, how come you ended up here?" He didn't seem like the type of person to get locked up.

"Its a long story, but I did promise your brother to keep you safe here,"

If it wasn't for Gabriel then I genuinely think that I would have ended up in solitary confinement. But its' odd that someone that my brother knew would end up in prison.

" A lot of folk here don't like nobility, so I'm gonna have to keep a close eye on you"

And as he said that I saw the man who drove the carriage standing beside me, glaring at me menacingly. He looked at me and the man in front of me and his expression grew graver.
