Chapter 22: Squad 2,5,6

Captain Jeremi was heading back to the base alongside Yousef, the young boy who followed him to the tournament, "Captain why did you choose me to follow you rather than the vice captains?" Yousef asked. "Well kid, in case you haven't noticed you're the only one your age who was automatically recruited into a squad without the need of schooling." Captain Jeremi answered. "so I thought it would be a good idea for you to see what schooling is about first hand."

"I see" Yousef said. Yousef who was now wearing a white tank top and brown shorts, he had an abnormally high muscle build for his age, he wore 100 metal rings with 25 rings on each of his limbs.

They finally reach the base and waiting for them were Azul and Shen who had just come back from their encounter. "Hey what's up captain," Azul says walking to him. "Azul I know your still a teen, but you have two more years before you are an adult can't you at least speak formally," Jeremi asks.

"Asking him to be mature would be like asking a Skunk to take a shower, although now that I think about it he does smell like one." Shen taunts. "SHUT UP, WHO EVEN INVITED YOU TO THIS CONVERSATION." Azul screams. 'Why did I even invite them to my squad or make them vice captains in the first place.' Jeremi thought with a blank express.

"Oh yeah anyways how did the tournament go" Shen asks. "I'm sure watching some teenagers battle it out just for some recognition wouldn't have entertained you." Azul stated. "Ha, it wasn't the best fight I've seen but, it certainly did keep me intrigued." Captain Vontiac admired. "So any new recruits?" Shen asked. "Well there were a few but, one boy struck to me most." The captain says. "Who was he, what did he look like, what were his powers like." Both Shen and Azul asked.

"He can answer that when he comes. Tomorrow." The captain replied.

"Thankfully we were able to snatch him up, well we got lucky that no other squad wanted him due to what ever that dark vibe energy was. Captain jeremi says. "Dark vibe energy?" Shen asks. There was a moment of pause "Don't worry about it, get some sleep tomorrow we have work to do." Jeremi says as he walked into the base.

[Nobel high school]

The morning sun glimmers through the windows of every student in their dorms signaling them to wake up and get ready for class. But for a few students, it was time to pack their bags and head to their new squads

Vil Sul and Isaiah went out of their dorm ready to part their ways. They all turned their keys in and exited the building. "Out of the hundreds of students that participated, only 7 were allowed to graduate early." Isaiah says to his friends reading the information on a device.

"Well if that's the case I guess we were lucky to be chosen." Sul says. "Mmm it seems like Jimmy also got accepted," Isaiah says. "What?" Sul asks. "He displayed phenomenal skill during your battle, even though he lost the captains recognized his skill," Isaiah says.

"So what squad is he joining?" Sul asks.

"Squad 5" Isaiah says.

"WHAT?" Sul screams.

"I'm joking," Isaiah says with a chuckle.

"Apparently, he was already scheduled for early graduation," Isaiah says. Sul had a shocked expression, however Vil stayed expressionless under his mask. "It says here that, he was already recruited by squad 9 before the the tournament was even announced." Isaiah continued.

"If that's the case why would he still try for the tournament.?" Sul asked. "It could be he wanted to show off his power, or he didn't like the option of joining squad 9." Isaiah says.

"I think your second theory might be right." Vil says finally engaging in the conversation. "Vil you can speak?" Sul asks. Vil gave Sul a deaths stare. "As I was saying, squad 9 has been haunted by their bad reputation when it comes to their captains." Vil informs.

"What about their captains? Are they corrupt? Dead?" Sul asks. "No the entire of squad 9 are made up of some vibe users with some really weird no weird doesn't even begin to describe it," Vil stops, he stares at the floor

"What's wrong? Vil?" Sul asks. "I said too much." Vil says in the psychopathic way possible. Isaiah and Sul kept their distance for a while.

The trio went on for a while before reaching a fork on the road. "Well this is where we split" Sul says. "This is probably going to be the last time we see each-other for a long time, so good luck on your journey both of you," Isaiah says, before giving his two friends a group hug.

"so Vil never got a chance to ask" Sul says

Vil looked at him wondering. "What made you get chosen by squad 2?" He asks. "I have no idea." He replied leaving before any other words could be said.

Vil had just made his way to the squad 2 when he noticed some people had been waiting for his arrival by the entrance. The squad 2 head quarters was a wide circular building in the shape of a honeycomb. 'I didn't take Captain Myra to be a bee farmer.' Vil thought. Upon walking in, Vil was told he had to go see the captain for information.

He went found the captains office after 10 minutes of gathering enough energy to ask for the location. Vil finally opens the door and saw the captain sitting on an office chair behind her desk engaging in a conversation with what seemed to be another recruit. she immediately stopped speaking and gestured him to take a sit next to the recruit.

Vil took a seat and looked over to see who it was sitting next to him. To his surprise it was Kayla. Vil however went expressionless and listened to what the captain said.

"You two are the newest recruits of squad 2, and if you didn't know squad 5 is a squad composed of assassins, meaning we like to kill fast and quiet. And if memory serves, Kayla you're a noble aren't you?" Myra asked.

"Yes I am, is that a problem?" Kayla said.

"Oh no not at all, it's just we have very few nobles in this squad and the reason being most nobles use a ton of flashy attacks, and that really isn't our way, so since you're a noble you're going to have to work extra hard in keeping your powers leveled down." Captain Myra informs.

She then looked over to Vil who had been sitting on his chair very still and silent. "Ahh Vil, I heard your from the Roch family, never heard of them." She says. "We're a very silent and quiet family we bearly make contact with anyone." Vil replied. "Mmm you know what that sounds like to me? Assassin business." She said with a smile on her face.

She stands up and hands them both a map. "What's this for? Kayla asked. "It's a location thats where we're meeting tomorrow. Come at exactly 4 am in the morning, don't be late." The captain said while she opens the door and gestures them to leave.

Isaiah was in the office with his dad talking about his academy performance. "Hahaha I always knew you'd do better than I ever did in school." He says. Isaiah's smile fades as he asks "so how's he doing?". The air grew cold, "ah yes Kenji is doing well in school." Captain Silva said. "Dad you know I'm not talking about Kenji." Isaiah said. The air grew colder. "Well I was hoping you were talking about Kenji, because you know for a FACT WE DONT TALK ABOUT HIM!" Isaiah's dad exclaimed smashing the table.

"He's a disgrace to this family." He continued.

"No he's not" Isaiah defended.

"He left us." Captain Silva said.

"Yes to pursue his dreams, isn't that what you wanted father." Isaiah asked

"I do want my kids to pursue their dreams but, what he did will forever shame us." He justified

"You should be ashamed to call him your older brother, all that talent he had just to waste it on a peasant," Silva said.

"I would never be ashamed to call him brother, neither I nor Kenji or Kayla, because you know what? All those years you were out here with your squad fighting, he was there for us he protected us and did everything a mother and father we're supposed to do for us. Just keep that in mind." Isaiah said as he stormed out the office.

[Squad 5]

"Finally I made it Squad 5's head quarters looks a little off." Sul says. The head quarters was in the shape of Giant head and the mouth was the entrance. "Welcome" captain Jeremi says to Sul who was having a hard time just standing, behind him were Yosef and Azul.

The captain briefed him on the squad and the importance of their missions. "Well Sul in order to officially become a member of the squad you have to be tested" Azul said with the most mischievous grin Sul had ever seen.

This made him gulp. "Don't worry we won't trouble you right when you just arrived, meet us tomorrow at 7 am at this location." Shen says giving Sul a map. Jeremi gets up from his seat and walks to the door. "Sul you may go, make sure you get some really good sleep because tomorrow is going to be tough." He said gesturing him to leave.

Sul, Vil, Kayla and Isaiah, all stared into the sky through their windows before going to bed.

[4 am]

Vil and Kayla had already reached their destination no one else was present at the area. Three hours pass and it's now 7 am in the morning and the sun was now up, a feather fell on the ground and just like that the two were surrounded by 15 squad members along side the captain, and vice captain. "Good job being patient and following orders, phase one of the test is passed." The captain congratulated.

"As I said before, this is a test but, we aren't going to go easy on you, now phase 2." The captain said the squad members disappeared and as they did 21 cursed spirits surrounded them. "BEGIN!!" The captain screamed as the creatures latched at the two.

Sul had met Yosef and Jeremi. At the location in the map and from there they lead Sul to an abandoned building with about 13 floors. "Sul stood on the roof along side Jeremi and Yosef. "Ahhh my favorite part of recruiting is about to begin." Captain Jeremi says with a big smile.

"Well Sul you have a very very simple task it's quite easy too if you think about it." Captain Jeremi says still smiling. "Just make your way down the building in 1 hour, if you can do that you're a member of the squad." The captain said.

"That's it? That's the simplest thing a person can ever do, Sul hurrrily stormed down the stairs before Jeremi could give any more information. "Sigh he's going to be very disappointed. He shoulda stayed and listened." Jeremi smiled. Sul had gone down the 13th and 12th floor and was starting to think the whole journey simple.

"All I have to do is go down some fancy stairs? In an hour? Something doesn't seem right." Sul says out loud and came to a halt. 'No traps? This seems too easy.' He says to himself. He continues to run down the stairs until he ducks and leaps away from two sharp objects. He looks to the direction of where they came from to see Azul holding one of his swords out.

"Your right kid this isn't going to be easy" he says. His swords became flexible like a whip and began attacking Sul. Sul dodged all its snake like movement almost getting caught many times. "Give up kid, you can't defeat me." Azul assured.

Both Vil and Kayla had killed most of the creatures with one remaining he was right in front of the two and since this was a competition who ever killed it got the point. Upon spotting it they both throw their projectiles both of which killed the creature at the same time. "Tie" the vice captain says.

The captain had a grin on her face, she didn't anticipate both of them would tie even when the number of the creatures were odd. "Very well, let's wrap the test up, phase 3. 1 on 1 confrontation." Captain Myra said.

Vil turned over to Kayla who was smiling. "You know I've always wanted to fight you. My brother always seemed to be interested in you, and in fact in the tournament you even fought my brother Kenji and beat him up, so I want to know just how powerful are you." Kayla said. Vil didn't reply. "No response? Well then I guess we'll find out soon." She says.

"Vibe technique, Eagle Talons." She says. Her vibe energy enshrouded her like aura and her hands were covered by energy in the shape of an eagles talon. "Get ready Peasant,"

"You may begin" The captain says

"IM GOING TO RIP YOUR HEAD OFF." Kayla screams as she rushes to Vil
