12 Storm

Day #7

I've heard many people begin to narrate a story that starts with a terrible night like; It was a dark and stormy night. But although I find it over used by people, I think I'll try and use it myself.

It was a dark and story ni - nah I'm out.

We were in the dusk of the next day, and slowly blinking back from a long slumber, I sneezed.

Yep, it might sound like a normal thing, but for someone living in a place where the sun is always up, it really isn't.

Thinking I had woken up with a cold, I realise I had cuddled myself into a ball through out my sleep when a loud and sharp noise rumble over the earth.

It seemed that it is a storm.

A storm that makes me immediately regret not charging my phone cause from the looks of things, the power is off.

Luckily for me and my visitors, Dad keeps an emergency power supply that I can simply switch on when I finally get off this wet bed.

Wait, wet bed?

Tracing my fingers towards the dampest spot, I try to recall the last time I actually wet the bed, only to notice where the dampness was coming from.

Stretching my back a bit in my search, the source takes me off guard when a cold but hard drop of rain water from the ceiling makes contact with my head.

"God damn!" I simply couldn't help myself because now, there was no more hint of sleep as I pull myself off the bed.

Still in my mini shorts, I search with my feet for slippers, which I later found.

Since the rain seems like it wouldn't be dropping in degree anytime soon, I decide it's more profitable to put on the only sweater I could bring with me while arriving to Dad's summer house. Cause although of was the only one my Aunt knitted for me on my recent birthday, it withholds the cold more than any other clothing item I own.

But sadly, I couldn't do the same for my wet shorts. I could change into another but since I haven't had time to take care of the laundry for the week, I'm stuck with it and I wouldn't be surprised if they have a similar story.

Pulling my door wide open, I take a deep breath as the feeling that I was in a cheap horror movie creeps in. The corridor turns out to be even darker than my room and the curtains weren't even opened to let the moon's light in.

Just plain darkness?

Taking bold steps over the corridor's floor, I begin to look around, suddenly catching the thought that I'm not alone.

"Wh - who's there?" I ask, but no one answers.

Pausing in my tracks, I take my time to look around before coming to a conclusion.

"Hm, probably just the wind - "

"Valley your awake!" Only three sharply said words, but could've brought me nearer to the ground.

Sometimes I wonder why some people are so bent on giving others near cardiac arrest before the appropriate time.

I take sometime to get back my voice, before attempting to coordinate my words.

"You! You this boy, what in the world are you doing walking in the dark?" I take Chase's tee-shirt, although he doesn't have a corner and try to express my anger through my fists since my speech was clearly on vacation.

The little smile on his face must have fallen off cause he jerks from my touch.

"Me? I'm not the one trying to strangle an innocent guy, you are!"

It takes me time to let go but I eventually do. "Well I'm not sure about that innocent part since guys don't usually try sneaking up on girls except they're I don't know, ten!"

"Ugh, can we just change this conversation?"

Feeling my heart at a normal rate, I place my hands into my pockets but end up creating a soggy noise.

"Well can you at least turn your tablet or phone torch on?"

"Unfortunately, I can't. Stayed up all night before the rain gaming," Even in the dark I can notice he shrugs like it's no biggie.

See this? This is exactly why Dad left only me at home. Cause he knows I can stay and take care of myself in these situations.

Want another reason? Cause he and Mother trusts me. And although I'm letting them down with my recent decisions, I'm sure that I can pull this off before they get back and they'll continue being proud of me.

And my roommates? Well from what I've seen, I'm surprised they were even let out of their houses to live with a complete stranger.

But although most people believe we teenagers are reckless with our actions, I believe there is still good in us. Just need the right situation to test it out.

And right then, my roommates were failing at it.

"Honestly can't blame you for that," I reply, now busy as I tale up a cradled ladder from the corner where I forgot to take and keep it from.

Since it's too heavy for my arms, I turn to him. "Dude help me up would you?"

"Su - Sure," He holds it for me as I climb it?

"Yeah, just hold it up a little more - there!" A smile spreads on my face as the sound of electricity feels the corridor. Seeing the light is back on, I stretch out my arms until he helps me down.

Problem solved. I thought until he begins to looks around in a confused manner before turning back to me as I get down from his arms.

"Wait tho, how come I can only see light up here?"

"Probably cause Dad only installed the special lights in the corridor here, living room, kitchen, master's bedroom, and at lastly although I'm regretting it now, the art room," My shoulders go lump as I realise that persuading him installing it for me to paint wasn't exactly the best step, since instead of me enjoying the room, Louis will now be with light while the rest of us squander in our dark rooms.

Hearing some arguments from downstairs, I rush to see what is going on and I can already sense Chase at my tail.

Finally there. "Hey, what the fuck is going on down he - " My mouth must have dropped open as my eyes take in the hideous thing.

It was a terrible sight to beware. One charging point and six teenagers, each with a starving phone.

Guess I'll have to set them straight. I thought, entering the lion's den.

^^

"Okay okay let's break it up people!" I begin, taking a wet mop and rush towards them. I don't need to make too many steps cause before I get there, they all scatter like ants when sprayed while raiding a sugar tin.

"Ew get that away from me! What's what with you? Can't you see were freezing?" They all begin to move faster than most guys after finding out they had knocked up their girlfriend.

"What's wrong wrong with me?" I confront one of the questions thrown. "What's wrong with me is that I let some bunch of spoilt teenagers in my house. Now let's begin with what I call the storm rules!" I begin to yell like a sergeant in the military. The mop being my punishment tool.

"Rule one! Everyone stays in groups. Two! No one uses this charging point for now. And since I don't trust any of you, I'll have to call someone that I'm sure wouldn't stoop to your amazingly degraded levels, although we aren't on speaking terms," I meant for that one to be privately and only for me but when one of them clears their throat, I'm sure everyone heard it.

"It wouldn't be a surprise if you're speaking about Cole. It's cool and all that you might be trying to amend things with him, but just one question. And I'm sure we're all think the same, right guys?" He looks back at his colleagues, who nodded as their response, he continues.

"Why exactly are you wet? And don't tell me that it's completely normal for an eighteen year old to wet her pants cause it really isn't," Pointing this out, Darwin gestures to my shorts, as the four other teenagers; Rosà, Gwen, Liza, Kiko and even Chase begin to pretend to silence their laughs which only fueled my reasons to despise teenagers, although I am one myself.

Taking a challenging step forward, I somehow get the confidence to confront him. "You think you're funny hot stuff? Well for your information, I'm like this down there because of the leaking ceiling in my room and trust me when I say you'll too by the next mocking move you make. Got it?" I slowly wave the mop and all he can do is nod.

Later when everyone were sitted like good and obedient kids, I ask Chase to get my phone charger which was luckily for me just lying on the kitchen counter.

Speechless when he sees me plugging mine, Darwin begins to lament. "Wha - why you?"

Holding back a smile, I reply. "Because rebellious one, I've the mop," Seeing they've gotten the right reminder, I pat his shoulder before leaving for the stairs.

I'm loving Sergeant Valley.
