Chapter 28: War(4)
Ryan and Enes both stepped into the area set for the battle.
Enes's mood was terrible at that moment since no matter what the result, he would be on the losing end. If he won, Ryan would become his enemy, and having such a young Great Knight as an enemy was clearly not something worth desiring. If he lost, then his authority as commander would be lost for the war, and he would have to follow the commands of a boy.
Enes could only helplessly sigh, as politics was even more troublesome than a war.
"Get ready!" Carl announced.
He didn't feel any better about what was going on, but after Cedrick was the one who proposed the battle, he could do nothing but go ahead. Cedrick was going to be the next King of the Great Eagle Kingdom, and he shouldn't be undermined.
As Enes heard Carl, he stopped thinking about random things and focused on what was ahead of him.
No matter the outcome of the battle, his pride as a Great Knight didn't allow him to think of other things in the middle of the battle. Every fight was sacred for him, and he needed to fight at his full strength.
"Start!"
Carl calmly stated, announcing the start of the battle.
Ryan and Enes made their moves at the same time.
Clang!
A loud sound rang as the two swords clashed. Enes didn't hide his strength, pushing Ryan two steps backward.
Enes tried to end the battle right away, trying to push through Ryan's sword. Ryan wasn't going to let that happen, and neither was he weak.
Increasing the prana flow in his hand, his veins popped out around his hand, and he pushed back the sword.
Carl sneered when he saw that. He could see that Ryan wasn't that much stronger, increasing his confidence in his victory.
Since the battle began, he no longer cared about what the consequences would be. He wanted to win and keep his 'commander' position.
The soldiers on Enes's side jeered when they saw the difference between Enes and Ryan. But since Ryan was a prince and the next King of the Vechnos Kingdom, none dared to mock him openly.
Carlos ignored all the jeers and instead sneered. If only the other side knew what would come, they wouldn't be having that much fun.
Unlike Carlos, the soldiers on Ryan's side were angry with all the jeering. There was an immense difference between the status of Ryan and Enes. If Ryan lost the battle he asked for in front of so many soldiers, it might hit his confidence, which would affect the Vechnos Kingdom.
"Prince Ryan, the fun time is over. I won't be handy with my attacks any longer," Enes commented and pounced.
Ryan ignored Enes and responded with a dodge. He wasn't a fool to take direct strikes from the opponent and harm himself. Anyway, he was only testing the opponent, so there was nothing to worry about.
Ryan was weaker when it came to physical strength between the two, but his agility was better, allowing him to make skillful movements.
Enes frowned since he could feel that Ryan was testing him. A bad feeling appeared in his heart, and it kept growing with every strike Ryan dodged.
Ryan never made any useless movements, keeping his stamina under control, while the same couldn't be said for Enes. His moves couldn't be soft, so every strike was draining some of his energy.
"Prince Ryan, the Great Knights don't battle like that. If you wanted to run, you should have said so," Enes commented, not hiding his dissatisfaction with the way the battle was playing out.
"Sir Enes, dodging is also a part of the battle. If you can use that energy of yours in the battle instead of trying to provoke me, who knows, it might work for you," Ryan replied calmly with a smile.
Enes didn't say anything in response, and he stopped his movements. The next moment, he activated the Aura state. An invisible barrier of Prana enveloped his body and the sword, creating an otherworldly aura.
Ryan smiled in response since he had been waiting for it. The next moment, he activated it as well. Following that, an invisible funnel appeared around him, devouring all the Prana in the surroundings. A blood-red cover appeared around him, and soon it covered the entirety of the sword.
When Enes saw the sword, he felt a chill in his body, but since the battle had begun, he could only move forward.
Enes lunged forward, his blade dancing through the air, showing his increased attributes. Ryan skillfully parried each strike with a precision that seemed to be born of countless battles.
The Aura state had heightened their senses, allowing them to anticipate each other's moves with uncanny accuracy.
Even then, Ryan seemed to be a completely different person. His strength was lower than Enes's in the base state, but the same couldn't be said after the activation of the Aura state.
The battlefield became a symphony of clashing metal, the echoes resonating through the silent night. The soldiers cheered louder, while Carl and Cedric seemed astonished by Ryan's strength and ability.
Carlos smiled, looking at Carl's expression. He had made the same expression when he saw Ryan battling Victor in Aura state. Even though Ryan was unable to defeat Victor, he was close to it, and Enes was comfortably weaker than Victor, so the battle's winner was already decided in his eyes.
Unaware of the thoughts going through others' heads, Enes unleashed a flurry of strikes, each blow charged with the absorbed Prana, creating shockwaves. Ryan countered with a swift series of movements, his every step a testament to the enhanced agility granted by the Aura state. He still didn't take the initiative to attack and kept defending and countering.
As the battle intensified, the ground beneath them trembled from the sheer force of their clashes. The invisible barriers of Prana crackled with power, deflecting blows that would have killed ordinary Knights.
