Chapter 19: Turbulent Times Ahead!

Crash!

Ryan was sleeping on his bed when he was awoken by a loud crash. He immediately stood up and left the bed, leaving in the direction of the sound.

Ryan didn't have to go far, as he found his father and Uncle Victor not very far from his room. His father was the reason for the loud sound.

Henry and Victor heard the sound of Ryan's footsteps, but they were in no mood to care about him after the news they had just gotten.

Time flew by, and it was morning.

Ryan stood up from his bed and left the room since after hearing the news late in the night yesterday, he was unable to sleep.

The messenger brought a shocking piece of news. Chris the Fourth, the Emperor of the Turing Empire, had fallen, and there was going to be a new Emperor.

Even an idiot could sense that things were going to be turbulent in the coming days. The news of the Turing Empire conquering Kingdoms was already troubling enough. After hearing about the death of Chris the Fourth, it showed just how turbulent the situation was going to become. In times of war, only a more brutal ruler replaces the ruler.

Ryan was already the target of the Gestrid family for whatever reason, so the news was even more troubling for him and the Vechnos Kingdom.

After freshening himself, Ryan went directly to the training area. Ryan was too weak to play any role in the current situation, so he needed to get stronger.

When Ryan entered the training arena, he found his uncle already there, waiting for him.

Ryan greeted Victor, and soon the sparring session began. Ryan had clearly gotten better in his defenses since that month of training, but things had yet to reach the point where Ryan could claim he was an all-round fighter.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

The sound of metallic clashes continued to ring in the arena as Victor and Ryan's swords clashed with each other. Victor was solely focusing on Ryan's defenses, so he attacked repeatedly, and Ryan had to either dodge or defend.

The training continued like it for two hours. Then Ryan was forced to take a break of ten minutes by Victor.

After the ten minutes were over, the training began again. But this time, Victor focused on the attack, so he gave full freedom to Ryan to attack while he only defended against his strikes.

Ryan nodded, and the sparring began. He slashed, his sword coming down on Victor.

Victor casually brought his sword and blocked the attack.

Time flew by, and days passed in a flash.

"Do we still not know who replaced the Emperor?" Henry roared in the throne room.

It had been days since the news of Chris the Fourth getting assassinated swept across the Kingdoms, but there was still no reason available in public. The attacks from the Turing Empire had also stopped in the past few days.

Instead of this peace calming down Henry's heart, it flared up the tension. As the days passed without any news or information, the ominous feeling in his heart grew as well.

"What about Hillary? When is she arriving in the capital?" Henry then calmed down and asked.

Hillary and Ryan getting married was the only good news he had received in the past month. Henry was surprised at first when the King of the Great Eagle Kingdom sent his envoy with the proposal. But when Henry found out how the Kingdom fell, he understood the Great Eagle Kingdom wanted an alliance with the Vechnos Kingdom.

The relationship between the two Kingdoms had always been turbulent, as far as Henry could remember. If the two royal families became related to each other through marriage, the enmity would at least disappear for the future generation.

"Your majesty, Princess Hillary would be arriving today in the capital city.

"Queen Loraine has already sent Prince Ryan to welcome her," The minister replied.

Henry nodded and breathed a sigh of relief after hearing the news. The next moment, his face turned solemn, and he passed the same order he had been doing for the past few days.

"Tell the spies to keep their eyes open all the time. Any new information about the Turing Empire and the fallen Kingdoms; I want to hear it immediately."

Ryan looked disgruntled as he was training with Victor when he was summoned by his mother and then sent here to welcome the princess.

At the same time, he needed to wear tight embroidered clothes, which made him feel uncomfortable since he had gotten used to wearing armor all the time.

The wildness of the jungle was still present in Ryan's eyes but it had watered down compared to how he looked after returning to the city.

Beside Ryan were two guards and a group of five maids. They were whispering and talking about Ryan when they shut up as the silhouette of a carriage appeared.

The carriage was fully covered in red with golden patterns. It was an automatic carriage, and behind it, there were Knights on horses following it.

The carriage stopped right before the gate. The two guards that came with Aakesh stepped forward while the Knights following the carriage also took the lead.

Ryan was a High Knight so he didn't need security. He also proceeded forward and approached the carriage.

The guards wanted to stop him since anything could be inside the carriage, but Ryan stopped them and continued forward.

Ryan reached the carriage and then opened the door. The next moment, the most beautiful face Ryan had ever seen appeared in front of him.

"The portrait did injustice to your appearance," Ryan commented, and extended his hands.

The girl inside the carriage was slightly shy, so she didn't immediately extend her hands, but after the moment became awkward, she had no choice but to do it.

Ryan smiled and lightly kissed Hillary's hands. Ryan had learned noble etiquette since he was young, so he knew what he needed to do.

"So, do you want to marry me?" Ryan asked right after they were alone in the palace.
