How to win against the odds

Seeing the things he decided to call crystal golems dropping from the ceiling like crystalline meteors he took Selia with his paws and put her on his back while taking flight, just barely avoiding collision with one of the larger of the golems.

The cave was big, around 30 meters in diameter and 10 in height, allowing for a bigger playing field which made flight more advantageous.

He now knew how a dragon raid boss felt while looking down on his opponents, as if they not touch him now that he left the ground.

Selia soon broke his wanderings by warning "They are casting something, they are compressing mana!", by now I was gettint ready to try and dodge anything they might throw at us, until I realized that once again I had been reckless, by taking Selia unto his back he would no longer dodge at ease, Selia seemed to notice this too as she soon leaped from back while taking her dragon form.

If not for the current tense situation I could already see her rolling her eyes at my antics, but now all we had focus to do was how to deal with these golems without collapsing the cave or taking too long where the crystal rat swarm would reach this place.

"Selia hit the crystal heart, I will play around with this golems!" so said as I pulled a stalactite from the ceiling and threw it at the golems to draw their attention.

Selia took height and started chanting something and I could feel my back tingling while she concentrated. She was going to do something dangerous I felt.

While I was taking rounds throwing whatever stones I could find and flying low enough to entice the golems, they finnaly released the attack they were charging.

A concentrated ball of arcane energy went past me in the direction of Selia, they didn't take the bait, and I despaired for bit before doing something very painful and stopping time for 2 seconds, and using my body as a shield for her. I could not move her without causing her to fumble her spell and most likely have it blow up on her face, so I had to get my teeth and be the tank.

Thankfully I was bigger than her giving me more areas to face the enemy to receive their hits... wait that does not sound like something to be thankful for...

The damage the arcane blasts did to me was not as bad as I expected, the golems looked to be not developed enough and were lacking in the energy department. The damage though was starting to accumulate, which forced me once again to grit my teeth and cast the Power of Life to heal the more essential parts of me that were being burnt into a crisp.

I was now trully at my limit in the draconic powers department, I would face consequences if I didn't respect this limit. Which made even more eager to find someone to teach me about Spirit, the memories of my black dragon blood had a very faint knowledge about it, but again proved to be too shallow to be of use.

'Looks like I need a more decisive approach!' I said inside my head while diving towards the golems to grab and throw them at each other.

While they were fairly heavy they were easily to grab and use momentum to throw around, to their clunky movement they would take second to get up and would even step on each other, breaking some limbs in the process. Soon the dozen golems that were aiming at Selia felt they could no longer ignore me, and started not only aiming at me but following my early movements they would throw broken limbs and some even began to throw crystal spikes at me.

'The classic throw everything including the sink, means they are desperate' I said while raising my guard and using one of the golems as a shield.

And finnaly I heard Selia finish her incantation, letting a purple star shoot out at a extremely high speed crashing into the heart and exploding. The explosion was very concentrated, not compromising the structure of the cave.

As soon as the crystal heart was destroyed the crystal golems stopped and dropped to the ground, the one I was holding even disassociated in my hands, looking even more fragile than glass.

Selia, not waiting around, approached while reverting to her elven form, looming from above inside the small crater she made.

I went to her side after taking my human form to see what was left of the Crystal Heart, and as I looked inside the crater I saw a golem core, our teacher had shown us one of them before, this one was much more complex, and had many advanced inscriptions, maybe the mages who made this weren't so "newbie" afterall...

'Another slap to my face I guess, it would make what? Five times in just a few hours? good thing I am Thick Skinned otherwise my face would be throbbing in pain at this moment.' I thought while nodding to my self.

Selia looked at me and wanted to say something, likely a sarcastic remark she had grown so fond of lately, but I put my fingers on her lips before she could, and said:

"You are trully breathtaking Selia, nice hit." while giving her a thumbs up and hoping she would let the few shards of dignity I had intact.

To my surprise she bit my finger and looked down with her ears going red, it was so cute that I would want her to bite my other fingers too if I could see such sight again.

So before she could regain her composure and relentlessly mow down my pride I took the golem core under my arm and said:

"Let's go, Selia" while winking at her while extending my hand, something that did even bigger damage to the already wounded Selia as she turned into her demure self saying "Un" while nodding and taking my hand while I led her away.

'To win against the odds, one needs to take the initiative...' He quipped internally.

What were the bigger odds?

1- Them losing their fight against the Crystal Heart.

2- Selia crushing Theo's pride.
