Episode(15): Boss Fight

SOVEREIGN OF DEATH~(15)

Nagisa stepped through the door slowly. He was cautious since he didn't want to be attacked out of nowhere but luckily his imagination didn't become reality. Instead, he was filled with shock the moment he laid eyes on his surroundings.

As far as the eye could see, trees stood tall creating the scene of a lush green forest scape.

'What the-'

Nagisa stepped back startled at the revelation before him. But as he did he was even more stunned. That was because-

'Where's the door?!'

Right, the door to the 29th floor had vanished. Nagisa looked left and right in a panic and he could see nothing but the stream stretching across acting as a border to enter the forest. Looking up all he could see was the dark sky with an infinite number of stars and two moons green and red hanging over head.

No matter where he looked, there was no door.

His heart pounded and raced but he hurriedly brushed his silver blue hair back displaying his dashing appearance with a sigh.

Right, there was no meaning in panicking. In this situation where he was in an unknown place he'd die a quick death if he let his anxiety get the better of him.

So he immediately calmed his breath. Although the door to the 29th floor had vanished it wasn't like he was in immediate danger. Rather he seemed to be relatively safe for the moment.

Now that he had even calmed down and used his perception to sense the surroundings, he managed to notice that the forest was filled with enemies. However the clearing where he stood felt safe.

It felt like he could even sleep naked and still nothing would happen to him at all.

Thanks to this, he managed to notice the anomaly of the area. Dozens of red eyes were looking at him from within the forest. He never noticed before because he was panicking but now that he did he was calmer.

That was because he knew that this was the boss room and not some random teleportation so it made him even calmer than before.

Rather, the red eyes reminded him of when he first came to this place and was hunted and died. Anger swelled in his heart and he couldn't help the extreme killing intent that burst from his body.

Although it didn't matter to him anymore that he almost died, the reminder made him recall the laughing face of the pigeon winged wench. If not for the fact that he slaughtered wolves like pigs before coming here he really might have gone crazy.

But, he wasn't too stupid to realize something was strange. Right, why did the clearing feel so safe and peaceful when the forest across the stream felt so dangerous? Nagisa pondered and soon came up with a thought.

One was that Nagisa had to first cross the stream to initiate the boss fight. The other was that they were just too stupid and didn't know he was their enemy.

He was more inclined to believe the second option but logic told him the first option was likely the reality.

'So this is a type of safe zone?'

He took note of that in his mind but soon placed it to the back of his head.

At any rate now that he was in the boss room there was only one thing to do, fight!

Although the scenery would make for a nice nap and he was curious how nature was so accurately recreated inside a dungeon, he didn't come here to sight see.

What more when he could literally sense the presence of several high ranking monsters deep inside the forest. Nagisa knew he had no time to play around and even if this were a safe area he didn't plan to make this his home.

Nagisa continued to sense around and everything was as he had expected. The wolves were weak, some strong and some extra strong. He nodded and was about to recall his perception when suddenly a presence made his hair stand on ends.

'What the-'

This presence was unlike like any other and literally made him feel like this was a monstrosity that shouldn't exist. Nagisa laughed but it was a laugh filled with horror.

He couldn't believe that a monster had such a strong aura.

'Was it the boss?'

It had to be.

Nagisa wouldn't take it if anyone said otherwise since if that wasn't the boss then there was no way he'd be able to pass this level. Luckily he didn't sense another presence but the boss made him wary.

It was indeed strong but Nagisa felt like he could take it on if he went all out. However with as many wolves as he could sense along with the stronger high ranking wolves, he was worried this would turn into a one against many brawl and in that case his chances of victory had been significantly lowered to a minus.

It'd be too dangerous if he was surrounded. He glance back at where the door should have been. As before there was absolutely nothing.

Even if he wanted to he couldn't turn back. If he could, he'd want to use the chance to gain more strength and challenge the boss again, but in this case all he could do was go forward.

Fight!

A breeze passed blowing the strands of his hair along with it and Nagisa smiled. His heart beat at a rapid pace spreading adrenaline through his body and he shook with excitement.

Right, since when had he become such a coward? A fight should be one fought with your life on the line otherwise there would be no satisfaction of victory. No growth from the battle and it would just be a meaningless scuffle.

Nagisa gripped the hilt of his sword tightly as the muscles in his body tensed and his veins began to show themselves.

[Tactics or whatever, I don't need it]

All he needed was to completely crush his enemy until their numbers meant nothing in the end!

***

Splash!* Splash!* Splash!*

Nagisa crossed the stream, his every step kicked up water but his speed didn't slow in the slightest. At the same time, ice fragments swirled to form an ice stake before it flew straight at him.

[How impatient]

Nagisa grinned.

He didn't even hesitate or halt his step as he swung the sword. The ice stake was cleanly cleaved through showing Nagisa's accuracy and skill with the sword.

He moved his feet with tapping precision slicing attacks one after the other then after bending his knees slightly under the gaze of his attacker Nagisa flew up into the air. It was so sudden that the ice wolf couldn't react at all.

The moment Nagisa's feet tapped on the shore, he leaned forward in the shocked eyes of the wolves he vanished before appearing slightly behind the ice wolf. A second later the ice wolf exploded into a cloud of blood with its body severed into pieces.

Nagisa stood up and placed the sword over his shoulder with a deranged and eerie smile.

[If we're gonna get to then what's the hold up? Come get your first class ticket to hell stupid dogs]

Nagisa laughed. At the moment he didn't think much, rather if he thought too much and made a mistake then it'd be over. So he decided to let the demon out and just turn this into a carnage.

The moment Nagisa let his guard down, three regular wolves shot at him so quickly without a signal. Although they were regular wolves, these wolves were as tall as Nagisa's chest and their speed and ferocity surpassed that of regular monster.

Still, Nagisa merely glanced at them before he grinned.

In the next moment his body blurred. It seemed as if he was moving to attack the three wolves but looking closer he only seemed to be taking a stance. It was a surreal sight as blurred images appeared while the person himself was slowly taking a stance.

But the moment his sword was sheathed and the blurred projections returned to himself, the three wolves all were sliced to ribbons.

But he wasn't done yet. No, the moment Nagisa looked up from his stance and caught on to his targets he moved.

Shu!*

The speed was so fast that it was nearly blinding. Only a streak of blue could be seen as Nagisa weaved around and cut the heads of several hell spawns before they could even react to it.

Blood sprayed from the headless bodies leaving only a falling 'thud' behind with several lifeless husks.

A dragon's roar echoed as the residual magic power coiled around the forest. Nagisa thought this would leave some fear in their hearts but he thought wrongly.

[Hm? Still coming?]

He was confused.

Although it didn't matter much whether they were all crazy and wanted to be food for his growth since he could level up the more he killed. But this wasn't normal.

The normal reaction in this situation would be to run away or hesitate but-

Growl!*

Nagisa bent his knees and jumped back slightly. A normal wolf attacked and slid against the ground when it missed.

Nagisa could see the red color of madness coloring its eyes and wondered if it was some sort of symptom for the boss floor. Maybe once the boss fight was initiated all the wolves would enter a state of madness.

He pondered but then shrugged. It was meaningless to know the reason.

All he had to do was slaughter them all.

Smiling, Nagisa drew his sword without hesitation slicing through the wolf's body.

One by one wolves charged at him and so they came the same they died easily.

Nagisa tilted his body slightly avoiding a lunging wolf then the very moment it passed him by, he folded his fist and sent another wolf flying and crashing through several trees. Its bones shattered and it landed in a sorry heap.

Nagisa didn't pay attention to it after it had died but moved.

With a flash of saber lights, Nagisa's body floated towards a tree while the wolves attacking where he was had been sliced in several areas and were left bleeding severely.

Nagisa then used the tree to lunge at another hell spawn and stabbed his sword through its chest pinning it to a tree.

At that moment, a claw slashed at him from behind but Nagisa only let go of the sword, turned and struck the wolf in its stomach causing it to nearly pass out. Then he slightly turned back and drew his sword in a curved line cleanly cleaving the wolf's body in two.

It was a complete slaughter.

No matter what the wolves threw out it just wasn't enough to fight against the intruder at all. Numbers didn't matter, ambush didn't matter, and strength didn't matter.

It was all just a bloodbath.

A wolf general that was unable to bear with the loss of its men anymore shot out not caring about compromising its location at all. It sped out with a speed fast enough to close the distance between itself and Nagisa in ten seconds.

[!!]

But Nagisa turned around. He had a mad look in his eyes as he shouted.

[That's where you were!!]

Nagisa shot forward at an even faster speed than the wolf general scaling from tree to tree faster than even a monkey or a leopard.

The main reason why Nagisa didn't go fight the boss first was because even though he could tell they were at the center of the forest he couldn't accurately perceive the situation.

Sensing the ghastly power of the wolf boss, there was no way he'd offer himself on a silver platter. So he waited patiently while spilling wolf blood and finally, one made a mistake.

The moment it broke its concealment Nagisa's perception gave him an accurate judgment of the situation and Nagisa made his move.

As the wolf general whizzed through the forest it notice a gust of wind overhead and saw that its target had long passed over it using the trees.

It hurriedly came to a halt dragging the dirt with its feet, however it was too late. Nagisa had long since left it in the dust.

Nagisa ran so fast that he had already closed the distance between himself and the boss monster's location. Seated on a throne made of wolf bones, the wolf king was surrounded by several more hell spawns that all had a dominating aura.

But none of them were fast enough to catch Nagisa. He didn't even hesitate as he raised his sword high and brought down for the kill.

Yet-

*Kiiiin!*

A high pitched sound rang through the forest like metal hitting metal and as Nagisa saw the pale light shield raised above the wolf kings head and he was shocked. Using more power he tried to tear open the barrier but it was pointless leaving him no choice but to retreat.

Nagisa clicked his tongue as he realized he had underestimated the wolf king. He almost forgot this was a magic world in which special skills and abilities existed. He looked complicatedly at the wolf king before sizing up its generals.

'At any rate it doesn't look like it'll attack for now'

Although he felt like the wolf king was being a bit cocky he calmly accepted it because it was to his benefit that the wolf king didn't gang up on him.

So, now the only thing for him to do was whittle away at its forces faster than it can realize that it was too cocky.

Nagisa couldn't count on leveling up by killing them because ever since he entered this space he didn't even receive a message about 'XP'. He figured it might be some restriction that didn't allow leveling up while fight a boss.

In that case he'd only gain levels after defeating the boss.

'!!'

Just as he was deep in contemplation, Nagisa crouched down. The moment he did, an attack whizzed overhead stirring up dust and wind.

He was so focused on the wolf general's that he almost forgot one had been left behind. Luckily he reacted quick enough.

The wolf didn't even hesitate for a second before launching a following up. Nagisa moved with agility and quickness jumping away and grabbing unto a tree branch.

At that moment, the ground where he was exploded as the wolf's claws dug it out mercilessly.

After seeing Nagisa escape it yet again, the wolf howled and lunged at him yet again. It was like springs were in its steps as it floated high above the ground.

Nagisa didn't run this time. Instead he swung himself over the wolf and stomped on its head before making another leap.

Making a dip in the air, Nagisa landed with a roll. He made sure to keep the other wolf generals in his sight while drawing out his sword at the same time.

He really wouldn't want to be hit in the back all of a sudden while fighting.

On the other hand, anger and hatred were in the wolf's eyes as it charged at Nagisa and attacked wildly with its claws.

Trees were snapped and torn in half while the ground kept being dug up, but Nagisa was still unharmed in the end. Instead, several deep wounds were carved deep into the wolf's flesh and blood profusely bled from its body.

Every time the wolf attacked Nagisa used the momentum to counter.

With three continuously slashes and quick yet firm steps, Nagisa danced behind the wolf and etched a deep wound into its back until even the white of bone could be seen clearly.

The wolf gritted its teeth and ignored the pain as it howled louder and louder trying to silence the pain with its fighting spirit.

Nagisa was stunned but he wasn't keen on continuing this pointless charade. With the generals eying him like they were ready to attack at any second, Nagisa had to make sure he killed this one first.

That was why, the moment Nagisa gained a chance he didn't hesitate. The sword tore through the air slicing upwards and taking the wolf's arm along with it.

Immediately after, Nagisa twisted his body and brought the sword with his twist carving through its side.

The wolf shrieked in a desperate attempt and dished out its last attack but was met with only one response. Its body was dissected in two halves before falling to the ground lifelessly.

Nagisa didn't even need to turn around to feel the killing intent pointed at him. He grinned knowing this battle would be a hard fought one to the end.

A wolf charged at him from behind but Nagisa reacted as fast as the attack came turning and slashing across its stomach before it could properly react.

He stomped on the ground vanishing with a streak of light. None of the wolves eyes could keep up with his movements at all. In the end a wolf general had a deep slash across its chest and blood sprayed.

The wolf looked down at Nagisa with surprise and shock. In the end it showed a gap and Nagisa spun his body heavily slamming his heel down on its head.

A cracked entered his ears as the wolf's skull nearly shattered. It wobbled as though it would fall at any second but surprisingly, it stood firmly before grabbing his leg and slamming Nagisa down with a vengeance.

With a bang, Nagisa hit the ground and nearly lost consciousness. The wolf wasn't merciful at all as it used all its strength causing Nagisa's internal organs to shake furiously inside his body.

Nagisa was close to seeing stars at the moment.

At the same time, the wolf shook its head still feeling the pain of Nagisa's axe kick. But it ignored the pain and walked up to Nagisa before grabbing his neck and holding him up arrogantly.

Although Nagisa was in a fuzzy state, his body still moved by reflex. The wolf was just feeling cocky about its victory when all of a sudden Nagisa's hand thrust through its eye socket and dug out its eye ball.

Its face was a bloody mess as the wolf shrieked and hurriedly let go. The moment he was freed, Nagisa didn't dwell on the pain. He rolled to his feet and attempted to rush at the general before finishing it off but was soon stopped by the eruption of flames in his path.

Nagisa followed the traces of magic with his eyed and glared coldly at the flame colored wolf. He was about to attack when another wolf suddenly attacked him out of nowhere giving him no chance to think at all.

One after the other relentless attacks flew at Nagisa, however using his skilled footwork accurate and powerful swordsmanship along with his acrobatic movements there was no way the wolf could keep up with him at all.

In a few seconds after it engaged in a close quarters fight with Nagisa it was already wounded all over.

Still even with all its wounds the wolf didn't even retreat from its attack at all.

Annoyance was written all over Nagisa's face as he prepared to end it but the next moment the wolf waved its claws. Mana shot out like blades stunning Nagisa for a moment before he reacted and cut through the attack.

He was stunned but after recalling the type of world he was in anything seemed possible. Who knew if his next opponent would be a pig wearing a cape and a crown?

Nagisa shook away his thoughts after slicing through the attacks and wanted to attack but at that moment sparks of electricity filled the entire forest.
