Chapter 12: She is a spy

After the cleanup of the battle, there was one heavily injured knight among them. All the knights surrounded him. Although none of his vital organs were damaged, he had a cut on his shoulder, and it was bleeding excessively.

"If this carries on, he will die from blood loss," the knight who was inspecting the wounds said. Elvin and the other knights were upset because this was their friend; they ate and drank together.

"Didn't you guys bring any potions?" Zarock asked.

"For some reason, we were not allowed to," Elvin said with a grim expression, as if someone had forced him.

Zarock knew this was Isola's men's doing. The plan was perfect, so in the original plot, eight of the eleven knights died. But Isola's only mistake was thinking these knights were weak, so it would be easy to assassinate Zarock. However, they were the most talented young knights who were suppressed because of their status.

But Zarock, right now, respects talent; he can't let them die. Zarock walked toward the knight, faced his palm on the wounded knight, and a dazzling golden light appeared. Everyone was shocked and bewildered, seeing the spectacular scene. The golden light healed some of the injuries. The divine energy was weak since Goddess Tiara only had 15 believers left in this world, so the potency of the divine power is weak so it couldn't completely heal a person. But it reattached broken arteries, veins, and nerves, which completely stopped the bleeding.

"Your Highness, you are a believer of Goddess Tiara?"

Zarock placed his index finger on his lips and made a gesture to keep quiet. Then he said, "My maid Rale is a spy."

"What?!" one knight exclaimed.

Zarock continued, "Yes, during the assassination, she was calm, but when the assassination failed, she made an annoyed expression."

"Yes, even I saw that," a knight spoke up.

"Then what are we doing? Let's capture her and interrogate her," Elvin said.

"No, we don't have evidence. You—what is your name?" Zarock asked, pointing toward Elvin.

"It's Elvin," Elvin replied.

"Okay, Elvin, you are responsible for the investigation," Zarock ordered.

"At your command."

"And I want one of you to summon a person for me," Zarock said, handing over a map. "I have marked the place. Go to the village near it to ask for his whereabouts; tell him I summoned him."

"I won't let you down, my lord."

"And you," Zarock pointed to another knight, "your job is to make sure no letter from Rale gets out, whether it's by bird or postman. You will inspect every one of them."

"Understood, my lord." The more the knights listened, the more they were in awe because this was the person they served.

Isola, hiding in the carriage, didn't know about the start of her demise.

Later, they connected the carriage to the horse, and one of the knights acted as the driver, continuing their journey.

At the imperial palace, "DAMN IT! DAMN IT! DAMN IT!" The sound of a teacup breaking could be heard. It was Isola Ravenscar. The assassins didn't return, which only meant one thing: it was a failure.

"Madam, calm down," a maid said.

"GET OUT!!" Isola roared. The maid was so scared she ran outside the room.

"Why! Why! Why!" My plan was so perfect, yet it failed—how?" Isola had an ugly, annoyed expression and was biting her thumbnail. She smashed the antique in the room to went out her anger and frustration. After some smashing, she calmed down. "It's fine since that son of a b*tch has been given a small town as his city to govern. There will be many chances," she was trying to convince herself, but she was dissatisfied; her schemes until now had never failed.

After a day, Zarock's carriage arrived at the small town he had been assigned. Its name was Bright Town, and it had a population of 300 people. There was a lot of hustle and bustle in the place.

"Greetings, I am the mayor of the town. I will be assisting you. I have been informed of your arrival." Zarock nodded, and he ordered Rale to carry all the luggage inside. Hearing this, Rale became furious. She was not used to being ordered around by Zarock.

"You want me to—" Before Rale could finish her sentence, all the knights who escorted Zarock glared at her. She felt intimidated and unwillingly started unloading the luggage.

Seeing this, Zarock smiled because this was just the beginning of her nightmare.
