A street full of ghosts
Night fell and the storm eased back to a drizzle. The wind died down and an eerily quietness engulfed the deserted street.
Standing side by side, Ji Mo Yuan and Bai Yue watched the prince's men search house after house, running from side to side in the mud. As time passed, their complexion worsened. One by one, large X were crudely carved on the doors of every house.
As Bai Yue listened to the pitter-patter of the rain, she wondered how many ghosts were currently haunting this street, breathing behind the leaving's neck and crying in anguish. Goosebumps erupted all over her arms.
"Bai Yue." Troubled, Ji Mo Yuan looked at her profile. His eyes lingered on her knitted brow. "Do you think we brought back something evil along with us when we came back to life?"
He had never been superstitious but time travel and rebirth had forced him to see the world in a new way.
