Sneaking out at night
Victor was in his dorm lying on the bed. It was past the curfew time. He was staring at the ceiling above, his mind replaying the events of the past few days. Each one sharpened his awareness of Eve, heightening the tension he felt whenever she was near.
He had never meant to become involved and never had the intention to let anyone close enough to matter. But Eve had slipped past his defenses, her bright spirit and tenacity piercing through the cold barrier he had carefully constructed. The more time he spent with her, the harder it became to maintain the distance he knew was necessary.
Today Emily's teasing smirk didn't escape him, nor did Eve's flustered response. There was something almost endearing in the way she tried to downplay the significance of their study sessions as if they were just another part of her day.
