Chapter 5

IVY: I tossed and turned, unable to sleep,tormented by this scenario. I grabbed my alarm clock..4:30! I've not had a a good sleep since iris left. I had to wait a few hours for the sun to set and rise before I call her.

knock "I heard"

Mum: Iris are you awake dear? I'm unable to sleep

IVY: "poor momma" Come in mum I was not asleep.

Please mum don't let this issue get to you.. your health comes first.

Mum: I'm trying to be strong ivy but what if iris doesn't show up "cries" what happens to us then. do you know how shameful that'll be?

Mum: please mum don't cry.. she'll be back

IVY: okay why don't I call her..will that ease your mind?

Mum:Nods

IVY: "smiles" I grab my phone next to me and dials iris's number.

The conversation

IVY: iris what have I done to you! did I do a bad thing by helping you out? you promised you'll be back.. and tomorrow's your wedding for God's sake.

iris: Calm down! my flight was delayed.. I'll be back today

IVY: Look for another means.. aren't you bothered tomorrow's your wedding?

iris: What's wrong with you? why are you acting like I'm not bothered about my wedding?

IVY: if you were you wouldn't have traveled.. please come back iris I have a bad feeling about this and mum's health is deteriorating because of your stupidity.

i give mum the phone to speak to iris

Mum: iris my child.. please come back don't put your mum to shame I beg you.

Iris hangs up

Mum: iris hanged up on me! I'm not concerned anymore. she should do as she sees fit.

IVY: "I tidy up the house and prepare breakfast for mum"

Alex.. Gabriel's best friend arrives at his house

Alex: Tomorrow's your day guy..I can tell how happy you are. it's finally good to see you smile after a long time.

Gabriel: I can't wait anymore😭I need to see my bride. thank you for being a friend to me even if I act crazy and stupid at times,I appreciate you being there for me.

Alex: "smirks" Have you and iris started getting busy?

Gabriel: Busy?

Alex: yeah.. don't you get me?

Gabriel: Ohh you're such a 😒

we haven't gotten intimate and I kinda prefer it that way. you know what transpired between Daniel's mum and I before her death. she left Daniel and I.

Alex: Yeah bless her soul

Gabriel: I'm glad she isn't into that intimacy before marriage stuff. she's decent.

Alex: That's nice you've found yourself a gem.

Gabriel: More than a gem "laughs"

Alex: Let's toast to a loving and decent iris and a long lasting marriage.

we watch our favourite football match while we drink to stupor..we talk for a while about irrelevant things that I lost track of time. I bade him goodbye and left.

Mum comes to find iris laying outside

Mum: ivy don't stress yourself too much my child

I'm sure you're sister will be back tomorrow. it's quite late we should go to bed.

IVY: What if she doesn't mum.. I'm scared

what will I do if she doesn't?

Mum: Positive thoughts ivy.. positive thoughts. she'll surely be back.

IVY: "leans on mum's shoulder " I hope you're right mum cause It won't be funny if she doesn't mum.

I can't do anything if she doesn't.. she'll just have to end her marriage.

let's go to bed. We've been thinking of iris all through forgetting ourselves. sleep well and don't think if not I'll be sad. you wouldn't want that right?

IVY: I won't.. I'm join you later mum

Mum: No let's head inside together

IVY: "sighs" yes mum

we both head to our separate rooms..I lay on the bed for some minutes thinking of iris and the drama. I focus my mind on positivity and hoping everything will end tomorrow. I drifted to sleep
