His coach laughed and made his way into the middle of the room. Matt had also gotten up at this point and was doing his best impression of a man hug with Coach, which in itself was just freakin’ adorable and awkward all at once.
“Thanks, Brian. But you don’t need to thank me. I’m happy for the invite. And you don’t have to call me Coach tonight, either. Henry’s fine.”
“It doesn’t feel right to,” Brian protested. “But I’ll try.” He took Henry’s hand and squeezed it hard, like Jake had taught him to shake a hand.
Adam was still seated on the couch looking round the room and sipping on his beer. Matt stood between Jake and Henry, eyeing him amusedly.
Brian hesitated a second then squirmed. “Henry, this is Adam. Adam, he’s my football coach and my uncle’s…” He stared awkwardly at Jake and Henry then helplessly at Matt, who was still eyeing him with a small smirk.
