The evenings had gotten a lot colder, but Matt was comfortable in his Brakersville V-neck and grateful his brother had inadvertently forced him to save for tonight. He tipped from one foot to the next trying to keep himself warm while he waited for James on the curb. He had no idea where they were headed, all he knew was Jake had reluctantly agreed to let him go out on a weeknight with a drastically reduced curfew, and James was picking taking him somewhere semi-fancy.
Finally the Mazda pulled up to the curb. The electric window rolled down and James poked his head out. “Your uncle home?”
Matt looked back over his shoulder at the house then back at James, cursing his resolve to not wear a jacket to cover up more of his body under the thin shirt. “He just got home like a second ago.”
“Can I pop in?”
Matt had to smile. James was so polite it was painful to watch. “Sure. Park in the driveway.”
